To be bit pissed off with this?

Asked a very good friend of ours to make a birthday cake for our granddaughter.She said yea that's fine&asked what we wanted etc.I said to let me know how much she wanted for it.
We are taking her daughter on holiday with us in August when we go to Crete.Weve told her she doesn't need anything other than her spending money &passport.We will pay for everything else.
She initially said she wouldn't charge us for her time or anything she's already got in her cupboards at home,as she makes quite alot of cakes for people.So wasn't expecting it to be much more than 20/30 quid.Today she's said to my partner when she saw him is £60 ok? When dp told me I was quite taken aback&just a little pissed off after shed already said all that to me!
I'm not gonna fall out with her over it or anything as we've been good friends for a long time but I do feel a bit put out about it.Dp says I shouldn't worry about it&we'll just pay her regardless.So is it just me?

Not a professional, no.

But a cake for 60 I'd feel that I'd have to supply something.

Especially if they had said that they wouldn't charge for their time-I wouldn't expect them to be having to spend time & possible petrol sourcing stuff.

At then end of the day though you've got a good price imo.

I used to make cakes for family and friends, charging for the ingredients and a little bit for my time/costs.

A decent cake in a home oven, with very basic decoration can still take up 4 hours or so of your time. A cake for 60 people would take more than that. I charged between £40 and £60 depending on tiers/decoration etc and I’ve never made one that big that it could serve 60 people.

honestly, I think you’ve had a bargain OP. I get it, you see cakes in the supermarket and they are so cheap that it doesn’t make sense, but they are mass produced with the cheapest ingredients, decorated by machines and so on. It’s a very different story at home.

As I said we're going to pay it regardless&not make anything of it with her.We just may not ask her again next time.
