AIBU to think that the Met Police have "Saved" Boris Johnson?

Just at the very moment when the Sue Gray report on Partygate was about to be released, the police suddenly decided to investigate partying at Downing Street themselves. This was after months of saying they don't investigate historic breaches of lockdown rules. Can't help thinking that they were persuaded to do this to stop the Sue Gray report being released.

The Met then proceed to spend months investigating Partygate offences, thus taking the heat out of the original fury about revelations about lockdown breaches. No doubt this was entirely their intention.

The sum total of the police investigation was one £50 fine for the Prime Minister, for one of the more minor breaches of lockdown rules. Begs the question why he was not fined for any of the other events he attended?

It just smacks of a stitch up, doesn't it?

Would you be willing to accept that the Tory MP who was sentenced today is scum?

It's not a word I use myself, but I put him in the same category as the former Labour peer jailed for five and a half years for similar offences in February this year;

@Clavinova Do you have a prediction for the Wakefield by-election?
Will it be a triumph for Boris like the local elections and North Shropshire?

tobee · 23/05/2022 21:44
  1. This government have primed us to think our prime minister repeatedly lying is normal

  2. People are not able to vote against a candidate despite what a previous poster has suggested

tobee · 23/05/2022 21:45

Good luck to all the Tories and their supporters who think Boris Johnson is about doing anything other than saving himself

Clavinova · 23/05/2022 21:50

The whole Rayner calling the Tory cabinet "scum" was a non story

She said it twice - the first time was in the House of Commons October 2020

@Clavinova if scum is not a word you would use to describe someone, what would you call an MP who watches porn in parliament?

I know the name of that Tory! Neil Parish.

Can't remember the names of all the other Tory sex offenders. I do remember Boris Johnson saying something about patting women on the bottom and sending them on their way though. Did Johnson whip his MPs to vote down making misogyny a crime?
Anyway, back to Parish, am I right in thinking their was a vote a while ago about making watching porn in public illegal? Is so, I wonder how he voted?

Out of curiosity @Clavinova what would you call someone who told a lie?

Probably not good - Labour lost the Hartlepool by-election. Update on Labour's former MP here in case you missed it;

4 days ago
A former Labour MP has been ordered to pay more than £434,000 to a parliamentary worker he sexually assaulted, harassed and victimised.
A tribunal in July last year found ex-Hartlepool MP Mike Hill subjected the woman, known as Ms A, to "detrimental treatment" over a 16-month period.

Claudia Webbe's appeal continues this week as well;

[Former Labour ] MP's appeal against her harassment conviction and sentence has heard how she was driven by "obsession" and "jealousy".

Lol, now we’re talking about Claudia Webbe. Must admit I didn’t think the whataboutery would go that far back.

jcyclops · 23/05/2022 22:07

Here is leaked video evidence:
Boris is clearly at a Birthday Party because he is singing "Happy Birthday". You can see loads of others attending in the background - clearly over the number allowed by restrictions at the time and you can see several bottles containing alcohol near the PM.

Do you think Keir Starmer told a lie here? What would you call him?

It was always going to be about the photos.

I wonder how many more photos there are out there?

@Clavinova you really are excelling yourself tonight. Although I am intrigued that you don't know what someone who lies is called.

I generally call them sleepy.

cakeorwine · 23/05/2022 22:12

I have to admit the defence about the party question in Parliament is interesting.

"Will the Prime Minister tell the house whether there was a party on Nov 13th?"
"No..."

As in, "No, | won't tell the House"

Got to admire that approach

There is a vast back catalogue of cut and pastes to be used. I must say it has been nice to see some old favourites tonight as well as a few new numbers. Very creative.

Clavs modus operandi is divert divert divert

jcyclops · 23/05/2022 22:15

When Boris resigns or is removed as PM, he will be entitled to up to £115,000/year Public Duties Cost Allowance (on top of a backbench MPs salary if he stays in parliament). In 2020/21 Major, Blair, Brown and Cameron each received over £113,000 and May received over £57,000.

Her appeal is this week - the BBC article is 4 days old! She is still the incumbent MP for Leicester East. I can go back further if you like - the former MP for Leicester East was Labour MP Keith Vaz - look what happened to him:

TooBigForMyBoots · 23/05/2022 22:16

What's worse: calling the Tory cabinet "SCUM"? A sentiment that many in this country agree with and not illegal.
Or
Suggesting sending a bomb to an opposition MP?🤔

I suppose it depends on what political party they belong eh, @Clavinova?

It’s so transparent I can’t help but wonder what the aim is. Certainly not to convince anyone, so… to alleviate boredom? I guess that’s why many of us are here.

It is only right and proper. Boris' liver has worked very hard for this country for several years now and needs to be kept in the kind of life it has become accustomed to.
