I'm pretty sure that there was no party.

To be clear, I don't care what anecdotes you throw out - you're not going to convince me that the last 3 years have been worse than World War 2 no matter how nostalgic a few people are for their youth

it makes no difference whether you’re convinced or not. That’s those people’s lived experience. Who are you to argue with it or insist you know better? It’s the height of arrogance.

SleeplessInEngland · 23/05/2022 12:33

"You are pretty deranged in your attempts to discredit other opinions *sleepless and disrespectful to boot"

You've strongly implied the last 3 years have been worse than WW2. I'll leave it for other posters to decide who's deranged.

newnamethanks · 23/05/2022 12:35

Well he's made the Tory Party unrecognisable by welcoming in the right wing nutters and frothers it used to keep at arms length so maybe he doesn't know what a party is.

"it makes no difference whether you’re convinced or not."

The poster was trying to convince me so yes, it does.

We don't have the luxury of having any PM resign on us right now. We have Monkeypox spreading in the community, a war raging in Europe, a cost of living crisis mushrooming into a huge problem, a Queen that is very unwell according to reports and the markets are tanking daily.

What we are going to need is some steady nerves and some proper hardcore focus on some really serious issues. We can not afford any more bullshit about cheese or curries. We are going to need to prepare as a country for some really bumpy days.

This would be a great time to change to serious trustworthy and capable PM instead of having to limp along with the useless wanky cunt faced liar we have in charge.

Absolutely. Shame the Tories don’t appear to be able to find one.

My grandmother will tell you WW2 was much easier than what we have been through to date I might add. It mainly happened elsewhere in Europe and there was no sense of isolation. Dancing, community spirit and the war time effort made everyone remember the good times as well as the bad during the war. Covid, now the war and now Monkeypox, not to mention the rest that is happening right now is far worse in many older people's view - who can compare both experiences.

Not the experience of my parents who lived through WW2 - they felt it was a much more serious existential threat than the pandemic. There was gallows humour and jollity in WW2, but there was also extreme hunger, a lot of death and destruction and, contrary to the spin, bombed out houses were looted.

newnamethanks · 23/05/2022 13:25

Your grandmother must have had a different war to many adults and in a different place. Both my parents spent the whole of the war in London, watching for air raids, pulling the dead and half dead out of bombed buildings, driving patients to hospital, and otherwise having an utterly bloody time. It is contemptuous and erroneous of you to compare the Covid outbreak and isolation to 7 years of war, no matter your grandmother's sole experience.

Of course Johnson has ensured that anyone who might represent viable opposition has been removed.

Blossomtoes · 23/05/2022 13:42

It wasn’t her grandmother’s sole experience @newnamethanks. There were a lot of that generation who remembered that six year period with at the very least mixed feelings. My parents certainly did.

I do fear that's their goal - disenfranchising the population so they stay in power.

We've seen it with other governments around the world

Oh totally - they've devalued politics to the point that no-one cares and 'they're all as bad as each other' and it's job done for them.

If she believes that then I would not rely on her for any kind of historical veracity.

If she believes that I wouldn't rely on her to tell me the day of the week.

Exactly. We didn’t all have the same experiences of the pandemic but apparently everyone must have experienced the war the same. And those who were actually there don’t know what they’re talking about because people who weren’t born until decades later know better.

Swayingpalmtrees · 23/05/2022 17:24

There are some horrible people on here, rank posts. My grandmother lived in London and for the last part she went to the countryside. It wasn't all doom and gloom, and she grew up a very capable, resilient person with gratitude.

Genuinely is there really anyone that gives a toss? Nope. It is all drummed up from Dom and no, he won't care and won't resign. Move on folks or get some professional counselling, it is unhealthy to stew about such trivia for this long.

get some professional counselling

So how are you qualified to assess people's need for counselling?

mmmmmmghturep · 23/05/2022 19:19

@Swayingpalmtrees minimizing peoples sacrifices during the Covid lockdowns will ensure compliance for any Monkeypox restrictions goes through the floor. people know now WITHOUT DOUBT that they will get no thanks for it and that their sacrifices will be dismissed and minimised not only by the Government AND by some e of the blue tick NHS accounts on Twitter but by other members of the public too. The shorter answer is they will be told t shove it!!!

So how did he “drum up” and obtain photos of over a dozen events? How would that even be possible?

I give a toss.

Lockdowns affected my.kids, my mum, my family. And whilst they were being negatively impacted, BoJo was clapping for carers one minute, breaking his own laws the next.

He's a clown and he's in power because other clowns put him there.

no you’re alright…

i think people are allowed to say how cheesed off they are with this shit show of a government without some random pontificating about their need for counselling 😀

people can vent…thats pretty much the main point of mumsnet
