To expect coronation chicken sandwiches at the jubilee party?

So DH and I are on the Jubilee party committee for our street. We are actually in charge of the bunting, balloons, decorations and other accoutrements.

Anyway, DH said at the meeting today that 'It would be inappropriate for there not to be coronation chicken sandwiches' at the party. This was met with uproar by the other committee members (a retired primary school teacher, two retired nurses, three SAHM, and 23-year old male who hopes to be a local councillor at the next elections for some reason). They said that coronation chicken was a colonial throwback, and therefore will not be served at the party.

DH and I said that we liked coronation chicken and so does HMTQ. We then suggested that maybe we shouldn't get union jack bunting as it might also be perceived as colonial?

Anyway, what do you think we should do? DH and I REALLY like coronation chicken. Should we resign?

I like that Corgi @TarpaulinEyes , does it have a name?

PTWB, he most certainly does. His name is Bodie. He has taken up residence on my kitchen windowsill where he can watch me with a semi regal eye

Bodie! I love that so much! 💖 He deserves his very special place on the windowsill

This thread rates equal to if not more ridiculous than Jackie Weaver and Handforth.

Good grief of course there should be coronation chicken sandwiches. The Queen would expect nothing less.

Victorian terraced housing - colonial

Victorian dress - colonial

Victorian engineering - colonial

Victoria plumb - colonial

erm no it doesnt work like that, something isnt colonial just because it was named after someone who also happened to be head of state of a number of colonies.

Otherwise everything Dutch, Portguese, French, Spanish (pancakes, port, pox and flu) would also be colonial.

Fuck me, really? There’s no nuance on line is there? I had no idea anyone was taking this thread seriously. 🤷‍♀️

Ok, lets take this slowly

Think carefully about whether a post referencing a plumbing company, French Pox and Spanish flu in a 'debate' about colonialism is taking things seriously or not seriously.....

You dont have to think tooooo hard about it
