To think no one has ever actually sold anything on Vinted

Literally everything I have put on there never sells. Dozens of favourites, I message and say 'would you like it?' Nothing!

While I'm at it, has anyone ever ironed anything before putting it on Vinted?

I've bought a fair bit on there, it's addictive. The ones that sell are usually those with good photos (front, back, label, close up, washing instructions, tags if new with tags), with a reasonable description. I.e. not just new with tags but "lovely monsoon dress, never worn, machine washable. Pet and smoke free home". And a good price. My best bargain was a £100 brand new monsoon dress for £8. It had dreadful photos but was gorgeous when it arrived.

Also good reviews help a lot. Maybe sell a couple of items low to get a good review?

I use favourites as a shortlist, and might buy something eventually. Though more often than not it will sell to someone else or I'll remove it. If I like something I'll buy immediately. If a favourited item gets reduced I'll get a notification which also tempts me sometimes.

Most favourites I ever saw was 120!

I put the kids clothes up (not ironed) and made over £200, not for loads of money but stuff I would of otherwise taken to the clothing bank so was worth it

stopringingme · 21/05/2022 20:42

I have only recently started buying and the thing that bugs me is lack of information about the item.

I buy loads of bags and I like to know the length of the strap so I know it will be comfortable to wear.

I also didn't like sellers getting in touch when I favourited something so I turned that notification off !

Also don't say something is new and then say only worn a couple of times - that is not new list it as very good and use the explanation panel to say you have only worn it a couple of times.

A good thing to know is what material the item is made from.

I've sold lots on there. I iron everything before taking photos against the same wall (I like my pics to look consistent lol) and write a full description with measurements, fabric content etc.

I usually price things a couple of quid more than necessary (basically the equivalent of shipping cost) and when someone favourites the item I then offer the price minus approx shipping. Seems to work!

I also try to thank purchasers and keep them informed of shipping times etc, and thus far have 5* feedback.

Good idea!

CorneliaMarie · 21/05/2022 21:58

@HazelBite

yes, you definitely should. New things with tags if a popular size/design will sell very well. Just be aware that despite it being new and you paying full price, it’s not worth the same to the buyer as they can’t try it in/return. Price sensibly and I’d bet it goes. Good luck!

StoneofDestiny · 21/05/2022 22:13

I've sold loads - good quality stuff, many sold due to events being cancelled, bought in error or change of size.

NetflixMom21 · 21/05/2022 22:39

I’ve sold about £120-130 worth of clothing on there. People go on there asking for ridiculous prices and they won’t sell. I would sell my daughters old tops and dresses for £1-2.50 each depending on condition of them and it’s money I made when otherwise they would have just been binned

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 21/05/2022 22:42

I put loads of my dd’s clothes on, topshop, mango, Zara, munki. Hardly worn, decent prices. And some of mine, monsoon, m and s, a twenty year old skirt, a pair of second hand dockers. My stuffs sold, none of hers.

xsquared · 22/05/2022 07:00

I always steam my clothes before I take photos of them.

I've sold a fair bit on Vinted but usually for less than £10. The items that are priced in double figures have remained unsold so far.

Mintyt · 22/05/2022 07:09

After reading a thread on here about how easy vinted is, I have put up 4 items and the have sold, I only have an iPhone, my question is how do I print off the parcel label.

xsquared · 22/05/2022 07:16

The iPhone has Airprint, so use that once you download the label.

@Mintyt

Mirrorball2022 · 22/05/2022 07:18

Well I’ve bought loads on there so several people have!
I favourite things as I browse and kids go before I get back to look at them again.

cookiemonster2468 · 22/05/2022 07:19

Don't message people who favourite your items. If they want to buy it they will buy it. It's annoying to get messages when all you've done is favourited, would completely put me off tbh as it's pushy.

TabithaTittlemouse · 22/05/2022 07:34

I’ve sold lots.

I agree with whoever said the messaging might put people off. It’s like picking up a top in a clothes shop and having the shop assistant rush over saying ‘are you going to buy that?’, nope.

And yes I iron!

Alicay · 22/05/2022 07:35

Can I ask - what the norm with asking for a reduction? Eg something’s £30 is it usual to offer say £25?

Mintyt · 22/05/2022 07:47

@xsquared thank you do I then print off at home or take the phone to shop and they download and print it for me pls

xsquared · 22/05/2022 07:49

@Mintyt if they have printing available, then you can do it at the shop.

I have only done it at home though.

bloodyunicorns · 22/05/2022 07:50

My teen has sold loads on there, but now she prefers eBay. It is possible!

xsquared · 22/05/2022 07:55

@Alicay As a seller, I would think that's a reasonable offer.

As long as potential buyers don't ask me to sell for less than 50% of asking price, then I am willing to negotiate with them.

pompomseverywhere · 22/05/2022 08:01

Vinted is ruining my life

HiDeDi · 22/05/2022 08:02

Not selling on Vinted but buy loads for myself and DH. We decided not to buy anything new this year so if we need something we look at Vinted first. I think the biggest issue is over pricing. Once postage is added it can sometimes be cheaper to buy them from the charity shop.

gunnersgold · 22/05/2022 08:02

I've sold loads , is your stuff branded and decent condition ? I've sold soo much !

Vinted is ruining my life

Oh no! Why?

NearlyHeadlessNick · 22/05/2022 08:04

I've sold loads on vinted, mostly kids - frugi, JoJo and some high street stuff, especially when it's brand new with tags. I've sold my kids Start-Rite shoes that still have plenty of life left for around a fiver a pair. I also sell the character stuff because that seems to go as well.

I buy kids stuff as well, again frugi, JoJo, Toby tiger, or bundles for nursery. I buy so much pre loved from either vinted or eBay that now I think 😱"how much?!" if I need to buy new.

ByGrabtharsHammarWhatASaving · 22/05/2022 08:07

I've got a new job in an office starting soon and have basically bought my entire work wardrobe from vinted. The thing is that because there are soooo many sellers on there when I search for "smart shirt" etc there are 500+ results. So then I filter it down to just stuff that is brand new or very good. Still 500+. So I just select the most expensive designer brands. Then I set a lower price range. So on and so on making my criteria tighter and tighter until I get the entries down to about <300 then I finally start looking. So I can imagine that makes it really hard for sellers. I don't actually care if the item is from X designer brand or brand new etc, but I'm not spending all day scrolling though a trillion items.

I've recently bought clothes from French connections, lucy & yak, Ralph Lauren, jigsaw, anthropology, AllSaints etc. Everything brand new with tags and <£20. It's an amazing site if you're a buyer but I wouldn't bother selling unless I had something really special like a limited edition out of sale print from a brand with a cult following.

It doesn't personally bother me when sellers message me but I never reply to the messages and it doesn't increase the liklihood of me buying the item. Often when I favourite something it's not because I've decided I actually like it's just because I'm scrolling though a lot of stuff and want to save it to take a closer look at later.
