I ordered a new phone from CPW and they said they would post it wednesday, it didnt come so thursday i went to work and though if they came to post it they would leave a card fro me to pick it up at the nearest depo as they have done in the past. Got home from work and still no sign. So Friday i rang CPW to see where it was, they called the courier and then told me it had been delivered thursday and sign for by someone called Anderson, so i said ok i will check with my neighbours.

My next door neighbour, a man in his 40's who still lives with his mother, had signed for my parcel, opened it and started using my phone as his own! put his own sim in it and started texting his girlfriend

When i knocked and asked if he has signed for a parcel for me he said yes, then made some excuse up about him going to work, and his friend was asleep in his house, woke up and opened the parcel thinking it belonged to said neighbour, so he proceeded to give me my opened parcel and apologised for his friend, then told me it was a really nice phone and you can use it with any sim card i took it and said nothing i was so in

when i got home and took it out of the wrapping the box was in a right state, had been ripped open the phone parts were just shoved back in and the phoned was covered in his grubby fingers prints.

I put my sim in and swithed it on and all his contacts where stored in the address book, and he had sent a text messages to his girlfriend one of which said 'hi babe just got a new phone, trying to work it out'

I phoned CPW and told them what had happened. they are sending me a replacement asap.

My 18 year old ds wants to go round to my neighbour and tell him if he ever opens our mail again he can expect a trip to A&E, a bit harsh you might think but im a single mum and my son is very protective of me.

Anyway i havent said anything to my neighbour yet, im so at the cheek of him !!!

I though i trusted my neighbours as usually my neighbours who live the other side of me always take in my parcels, and return then intact!

dustystar · 12/01/2008 12:49

OMG I'm not surprised you're angry.

NatalieJane · 12/01/2008 12:50

You have every right to be livid.

Maybe once your replacement arrives, you will feel a bit better?

LuckyUnderpants · 12/01/2008 12:53

Yes i will feel better once a get a replacement, sounds a bit ocd but i couldnt stand keeping a phone with his grubby prints on it. i feel like its flawed!

makingnosense · 12/01/2008 12:54

Neighbour sounds like a right idiot. Dont blame you for wanting a replacement. Wonder how he thought he could get away with it?

largeginandtonic · 12/01/2008 12:54

That is awful! I would write a note on your door to any other courier services saying could they please not leave parcels with said house.

I would also (for maximum embarrasment) write down all his numbers and the text messages and hand them over to him syaing you thought he might have lost them otherwise. Obvioulsly being incredibly sarcastic with the tone.

I would bloomin furious!

MuthaHubbard · 12/01/2008 12:56

If you ever order anything in the future I would tell the company not to leave anything with the neighbours under any circumstances. Am sure that could be classed as theft?

Cock.

nametaken · 12/01/2008 12:56

Make sure you open one of his parcels and start using it see how he likes it.

LuckyUnderpants · 12/01/2008 12:59

My ds suggested sending a text message to his girlfriend saying

'sorry to bother you but can you please tell my neightbour not to open other people parcels, he opened my new phone and used it and left text messages and contact details for you on it, thankyou'

OP posts:
Freckle · 12/01/2008 12:59

It is actually against the law to open post addressed to someone else. Perhaps you could find a copy of the Postal Services Act 2000, section 84 where it states "A person commits an offence if, intending to act to a person?s detriment and without reasonable excuse, he opens a postal packet which he knows or reasonably suspects has been incorrectly delivered to him." This is punishable by imprisonment.

You could also point out that you now have all his contact details and evidence that he intended to keep the phone. Have you considered calling the police??

ScruffyTeddy · 12/01/2008 13:04

Well he's obviously a bit of a tosser but you are getting a replacement so try not to worry about it. Im lucky in that both of my neighbours are nice and wouldn't do this. Having said that, if they happened to leave it with the local drug addict three doors down ive no doubt the same thing would happen. (and he wouldn't own up!). Chalk it down to experience

LuckyUnderpants · 12/01/2008 13:08

i have lived next door to him and his mum for 18 years and never realised what a complete godshite fuckwit tosser he is

Outrageous of neighbour. He must have thought his luck was really in . Was it ready to hand over to you, as in did he show any intention of giving it back unless caught ? Mind you, the courier company should have left a card saying where it had been left anyway.

Wisteria · 12/01/2008 13:11

He was obviously trying to get away with theft unless he is also expecting a new phone and failed to see that it was not addressed to him but saying that, it still doesn't work as he must have signed for it, in which case they would have explained it was for you.

Don't advise your ds getting involved although sweet that he is so protective.

What a twat and no YANBU.

LuckyUnderpants · 12/01/2008 13:12

the phone is going back to cpw milliec

OP posts:
LuckyUnderpants · 12/01/2008 13:14

I wouldnt let my ds get involved, he was so angry, i tried to make out that i was initially angry but now find it funny that he is such a tosser that he though he could get away with it.

OP posts:
ScruffyTeddy · 12/01/2008 13:15

I was going to ask that...when he handed it over was it already packed back up (however badly)...in which case could he have been telling the truth?

and texting anyone on his list is a waste of time, as if he's going to steal...would he really give a thought to someone texting one of his contacts? Possibly not.

LuckyUnderpants · 12/01/2008 13:17

the courier didnt leave a card, and on there records it was signed for by someone at my address, so he must have seen then knocking at my door and said he lived there

mum2sons · 12/01/2008 13:18

OMG! YANBU!

The same has happened to me..
When I had DS2, my best friend sent me flowers but I never received them, apparantly they had been delivered to the wrong address and been kept so she re-ordered them for me, sent again to the wrong address and..kept yet again . Third time lucky I got them... Said neighbours are now known universally in our close as "Flower thieves".

Am having a mega problem with Parcel Force at the moment. Ordered a le cruset set in Novemeber, when enquired about I was told that they had been delivered...but not to me.. . Soooo another neighbour or flower thief has my £100 set. Am waiting for proof of signature and will go to the police. Am getting really about this now. I also have not received IPOD speakers I bought for DS1 for Xmas and you guessed it...they have been sent and delivered...

I am literally about to give birth to baby 3 and do not have the time for all this...Maybe we live in the same street and flower thief is your neighbour too!!

Sorry to hijack your thread!

LuckyUnderpants · 12/01/2008 13:21

when i knocked to ask if he had my parcel he seemed flustered and did take a while to come back out of his house with it, so i think he intended to keep it then panicked when i turned up asking for it, shoved in all in the box and made his stupid excuse.

If he was intending to give it back to me he would have had the time to delete his contacts.

WinkyWinkola · 12/01/2008 13:24

What a scumbag.

I thought it was illegal to open other people's post. Call the police and give him the fright of his life.

ScruffyTeddy · 12/01/2008 13:24

Very true...imagine him frantically packing it back up .
