I ordered a new phone from CPW and they said they would post it wednesday, it didnt come so thursday i went to work and though if they came to post it they would leave a card fro me to pick it up at the nearest depo as they have done in the past. Got home from work and still no sign. So Friday i rang CPW to see where it was, they called the courier and then told me it had been delivered thursday and sign for by someone called Anderson, so i said ok i will check with my neighbours.

My next door neighbour, a man in his 40's who still lives with his mother, had signed for my parcel, opened it and started using my phone as his own! put his own sim in it and started texting his girlfriend

When i knocked and asked if he has signed for a parcel for me he said yes, then made some excuse up about him going to work, and his friend was asleep in his house, woke up and opened the parcel thinking it belonged to said neighbour, so he proceeded to give me my opened parcel and apologised for his friend, then told me it was a really nice phone and you can use it with any sim card i took it and said nothing i was so in

when i got home and took it out of the wrapping the box was in a right state, had been ripped open the phone parts were just shoved back in and the phoned was covered in his grubby fingers prints.

I put my sim in and swithed it on and all his contacts where stored in the address book, and he had sent a text messages to his girlfriend one of which said 'hi babe just got a new phone, trying to work it out'

I phoned CPW and told them what had happened. they are sending me a replacement asap.

My 18 year old ds wants to go round to my neighbour and tell him if he ever opens our mail again he can expect a trip to A&E, a bit harsh you might think but im a single mum and my son is very protective of me.

Anyway i havent said anything to my neighbour yet, im so at the cheek of him !!!

I though i trusted my neighbours as usually my neighbours who live the other side of me always take in my parcels, and return then intact!

That is so outrageous.

I can't believe you haven't been back round there. I would knock on his door and ask him to explain the contacts and the text message, do you talk to the mum could you mention it to her? She would probably be mortified if told her and might give him a kick up the bum.

I would honestly be so so so angry.

ScruffyTeddy · 12/01/2008 13:46

Why bother though? If he's the sort of person who would steal in the first place what will going round there achieve exactly?

Make sure nothing is ever left there again, take the replacement phone and forget it!

MaureenMLove · 12/01/2008 13:50

What about texting the gf, pretending to be him and make out he's seeing someone behind her back! You know, 'Can't get away tonight, but I'll we'll be together soon' type of thing! I am an evil, evil bitch!

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 12/01/2008 13:53

I am very impressed the company is sending a replacement and I think you need to have a word with your neighbour and say you know it was him as all his details were still in the phone.

Wisteria · 12/01/2008 13:54

Maureen that would achieve nothing except more aggro for the OP.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 12/01/2008 13:55

mum2sons I would stick a note on your door saying to the delivery people not to leave it at number ...

NoBiggy · 12/01/2008 13:59

Won't CPW be a bit pissed off to receive a phone back solely because he intercepted it and left his secretions on it?

Don't suppose they'd bother taking action against him, but my god, he needs something spiky applying somewhere!

MaureenMLove · 12/01/2008 14:00

I was only joking!

ScruffyTeddy · 12/01/2008 14:00

cpw warehouse didnt deliver when they said they would, its their probem.

LIZS · 12/01/2008 14:01

Probably up to CPW whether to tell police too.

ScruffyTeddy · 12/01/2008 14:03

Do not stick notes on doors either, then people know you are out!

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 12/01/2008 14:04

Stick it on the inside and say if there is no answer. You could be busy with the child/ren.

mum2sons · 12/01/2008 14:13

With my 2 latest things I dont think it is flower thieves NAB3wishesfor2008. I need more evidence! The post lady will only leave stuff with my friend opposite or next door. This is parcel force tho. Am looking forward to seeing the signature..

Luckyunderpants,Glad that mobile phone thief man has been caught out. What a dick. Why dont you do a neighbourhood watch kind of circular with that postal 2000 act on it?Make him squirm some more..

I am thinking of putting something in our little parishnews thingy!

ScruffyTeddy · 12/01/2008 14:19

Why do anything? It was just an opportunist theft by a man who isn't a hardened criminal (hardened crims dont get flustered surely?).

He's an idiot. But nothing will be delivered there again? and op has a nice spanking new replacement!

Wouldn't it just cause more stress to op than its worth to follow it up?

wooga · 12/01/2008 21:43

I used to deliver the post and remember one house had signs up saying:

DELIVERIES-IF WE'RE NOT IN,PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE ANYTHING WITH OUR NEIGHBOURS

I did a double take because was opposite of what I normally saw!

They told me that their neighbours had a habit of taking stuff in (including a microwave)and denying all knowledge of it so they could keep it.

I definitely recommend you put a sign up as they've proved themselves untrustworthy.

Glad you're getting another phone sent.

cherryredretrochick · 12/01/2008 22:02

Scruffyteddy you are so mellow, I would be so pissed off

GodzillasUnrecognizedBumcheek · 12/01/2008 22:08

I wonder if the 'do not leave with neighbours' sign works? I always request that my stuff not be left with the neighbours when i order things - but the divs still do it anyway
