I booked and paid for my grandparents to visit a beloved hotel of mine. It's a small place (around 8 bedrooms) run by a couple and this was their first time visiting.

For breakfast, you can choose a continental in the room or to dine in the dining room. My grandparents chose the continental in the room, which is delivered on a tray and includes a selection of juices in small individual glass bottles. My grandmother told me today that she had brought two of the bottles home as she liked them. I stay at this hotel a lot and the fact she stole something that isn't there to be taken makes me pissed off TBH. She wouldn't steal a plate or a cup, but she thought these bottles were fair game.

AIBU?

😂😂😂 This have me a good chuckle, thank you!
Granny and Clyde

Howling.

I'm picturing OP going back with the slevvy glass bottle - I'm sure the staff will be thrilled.

My local shop gives you 20p for any plastic bottle you bring in, OP. I've started nicking them from colleagues who drain and leave them empty. You'd be fuming.

The most ridiculous thing I've ever read. Phone the hotel, ask them. "My gran took a juice bottle". I really doubt they'll call the police. It's not stealing FFS, if she had thought to ask they would gladly have given it to her. It's akin to taking the crappy shampoos in the bathrooms. I assume gran didn't take the dining chairs on the way out.

I'm in tears

stopwaitingforpermissiontobeyou · 18/05/2022 22:39

OP, when you realise how ridiculous youre being, please dont get the thread pulled.

I've had a really shitty week and I'm literally howling at these responses.

Yes

I wasn’t being a twat honestly I just really think that it’s not your problem so please don’t sweat over it. I have friends that take towels/bed linen/crockery..I don’t like it but it’s on them

allboysherebutme · 18/05/2022 22:40

Maybe pop in and offer to buy two new ones, maybe make out she thought they were packaged like that so you do not feel so embarrassed. X

RosesAndHellebores · 18/05/2022 22:41

Thank goodness she didn't have a minibar in the room.

Aquamarine1029 · 18/05/2022 21:47

What's the difference between taking a glass bottle or the bedside lamp? If it doesn't belong to you it's stealing, end of.

Well, lamps help you to see.

I generally find glass bottles end up impairing my vision by the end of night.

On a serious note, the bottle will be thrown out. Unless Granny slevved all over it and swished her mouth juices on the lamp, I think thats a bit different.

No, stop.

I'm picturing Granny trying to get out the door with the whole bar.

A colleague once told me a story about a man trying to rob an entire till and not being able to fit through the door.

"Hi, my gran stayed here recently, and she took home a glass bottle that you wouldn't have re used anyway. can I replace it please?"

SaltedCaramelIcedLatte · 18/05/2022 22:44

Surely you have far more important things to worry about? Seriously couldn't get worked up over this!

MissChanandlerBong80 · 18/05/2022 22:44

stopwaitingforpermissiontobeyou · 18/05/2022 22:34

Oh wow.

Please say you have not given your poor granny grief over this.

Has it occured to you shes kept them to remind her of the lovely stay you paid for?

theyd have gone in the bottle bin!

One day your granny will be gone, and you will find that glass bottle and smile.

In the nicest possible way - get over yourself.

OP hasn’t said described the bottles but I think they might have been carafes or something similar rather than just packaging for a pre-prepared drink that would have gone in the bottle bin.

And if that’s the case it’s like stealing a milk jug or a teacup. Which is obviously unacceptable.

stopwaitingforpermissiontobeyou · 18/05/2022 22:44

Seriously though, I'm worried now.

I used a cup of water from the vending machine at work today and I took the cup away with me in my pocket (no bin nearby).

I will return my slevvy cup to work tomorrow.

Roastonsun8 · 18/05/2022 22:44

Your holidays are very upmarket if you provide L'occitane products to Bath with!

WomanStanleyWoman2 · 18/05/2022 22:45

I think you should disown the thieving old
cow. You get two grandmothers, but only one ‘beloved hotel’.

small individual glass bottles

there's your clue

Do you HONESTLY think they wash each glass bottle for each guest to pour juice in the next time? In these times?

Summerofcontent · 18/05/2022 22:46

Does anyone else want to see a picture of these bottles

Yep

I'm sorry OP im being mean, I don't know why I find this thread so bloody funny but I do

Rosebuud · 18/05/2022 22:47

I don’t get the hilarity here, it’s no different to stealing the plate your breakfast is served on or the cup your coffee was served in. Yes sure. Not crime of rhe century but she knows rhese folks well, is a regular so I can see why she’d be embarrassed they thieved. It’s clearly not anything like a j2o bottle if they cost about two pounds to buy individually and empty and the staff will have noticed they were gone, it’s a very small b&b/hotel.

Hi granny

can i get a picture of the bottles?

Mumsnet want to see, I told them how fuming I am.

Seriously though OP. you dont say how old you or granny are, but she wont be here forever. I honestly hope you havent said any of this to her.

its completely bloody different!

You're not helping the situation, I'm picturing Granny taking home her dirty plate in her bag

Yeah you are. It’s unpleasant. Why are you doing it? Shit day and it makes you feel better to make someone else feel shit?

Aaaabbbcccc · 18/05/2022 22:50

OP is getting flack but is totally right. If it wasn’t labelled (ie single use) it was theft. God do people still really behave like this? I would be ashamed. Of course they wash the things!

Would you like to address every other poster that finds it funny or just me?

At least I've acknowledged I'm being mean. (But then so is OP, because unless she hasnt told granny, shes made her feel shit).

You think in COVID they re use a glass bottle? do you think bars do?
