To hate toothpaste

I am aware that bigger things are happening in the world, but for the love of Jesus why are ALL toothpastes so violently minty?

Not one of them is mild. It's like having your mouth assaulted - it burns, it lingers, it's horrible. Have resorted to kids' toothpaste, but I know it's not as good for adult teeth.

Am I a freak? Am I the only one who hates this stuff?

Or if you've found a mild one, PLEASE let me know about it!

😂

My DD is the same. She says they're spicy'!!!!

Big standard Colgate for her.

WhatIsThisPlease · 18/05/2022 10:04

Bog standard!!!

MrsDoctor · 18/05/2022 10:05

Had this problem with my son. Try Oranurse

BadLad · 18/05/2022 10:06

In Japan they come in all kinds of flavours, but I always get mint.

mizzo · 18/05/2022 10:06

I like Colgate fresh gel, I have to be careful with mint as it triggers migraines.
You can get a flavourless toothpaste, oranurse I think it's called.

mizzo · 18/05/2022 10:08

Home bargains do non mint flavours for adults too.

StridTheKiller · 18/05/2022 10:08

DD8 also says it is spicy (yet will eat Vindaloo). She only likes the powdered charcoal stuff in a pot from Superdrug.
Sensodyne is really mild tasting.

WhereTheWildlingsLive · 18/05/2022 10:10

Most of the kids toothpaste over tiny (0-2yrs) actually have the same amount of flouride as adult toothpaste so don't think its actually any worse for you 🤷🏼‍♀️

MrsDoctor · 18/05/2022 10:12

Yes, be careful you get a toothpaste with fluoride. We bought an orange flavoured one from Amazon and it didn't have fluoride in it.

MrOllivander · 18/05/2022 10:12

Sainsburys mixed Berry kids. Same fluoride as adult toothpaste. Or most other kids ones. Currently using a bubblegum one from b&m!

10HailMarys · 18/05/2022 10:14

I'm not a fan of mint flavoured things either. It took my parents AGES to make me transition from kids' strawberry toothpaste to proper toothpaste when I was a kid. I do put up with it as an adult, but it wouldn't be my choice if there were alternatives readily available!

If you don't mind ordering from Amazon, there are actually various non-mint toothpastes available, including Oranurse which is unflavoured:

WishingWell5 · 18/05/2022 10:14

You can get (kids) flavour free in Holland and Barrett - lifesaver for kids who hate the taste/ sensory meltdowns

10HailMarys · 18/05/2022 10:14

(But obviously you need to check they contain fluoride)

AmbushedByCake · 18/05/2022 10:14

Sensodyne isn't particularly minty.

What's wrong with kids toothpaste? As long as you're not using the low fluoride baby toothpaste I think it's basically the same stuff. The colgate age 3 to 5 strawberry flavoured paste has 1350ppm fluoride, which is the recommended amount, more or less.

MrOllivander · 18/05/2022 10:14

This one at Superdrug is nice but more expensive

To hate toothpaste
TeeBee · 18/05/2022 10:15

Waken do lovely flavours. Lemon and mild mint, strawberry and mint, apple and mint. The mint flavour is very mild.

MrOllivander · 18/05/2022 10:16

Should say I asked my dentist and he said as long as it has adult levels of fluoride it's no issue and they're often less abrasive that adult toothpaste so (his words) "if you want to brush with Frozen bubblegum toothpaste, knock yourself out weirdo"

Ihatemyjob22 · 18/05/2022 10:16

Oranurse has already been said but it's great so I'll say it again. My kids used is instead of flavoured toothpaste as they hate all the strawberry/bubblegum ones

WhereTheWildlingsLive · 18/05/2022 10:17

Yep just checked they all have the same 1450ppm flouride whenever adult or child. I second the making sure you use flouride, especially for children, as unless you and your family have a saintly sugar free diet with no fruit, juice or jam you'll do more harm than good to your teeth....

simonthedog · 18/05/2022 10:17

oranurse

MrsSkylerWhite · 18/05/2022 10:18

Asda smart price was really mild, not sure if they still do it?

get yourself a water glosser, too. Cuts the amount of paste you need to use.

downtonupton · 18/05/2022 10:33

Marvis is not cheap but comes in lots of fun flavours:

www.lookfantastic.com/brands/marvis.list

I was given some and it lasted well and seemed good

ClawedButler · 18/05/2022 10:52

Oh you wonderful people, thank you so much - I shall be shopping online forthwith - for me AND my DD8 who also says it's spicy.

I ordered an ultrasound toothbrush from Germany and they sent me some apple flavoured toothpaste with it. It's great, but I've almost run out 😭
