Full Moon mood

Is anyone else having a rather ‘meh’ weekend? I know the weather has been lovely but I can really feel it’s a full moon and was wondering if anyone else feels it too. My anxiety has been high this weekend, could be a coincidence but my mood is heavy so I did a Google et voila! It’s a Full moon tonight 😶 it’s almost as though my logical mind sends me an out of office whenever there’s a FM.

Maybe it’s just me lol…

Yes I've felt rubbish for past few days, thought it could be the moon. Glad you posted this.

EmmaH2022 · 15/05/2022 23:19

I don't keep up with it but everything feels horribly heavy.

When I worked in customer services, in times when people were super rude, we'd say, let's check if it's a full moon, and it always was.

baroqueandblue · 15/05/2022 23:40

I've gone down like a bag of shit today, after a really positive week on the whole. Acutely depressed mood followed by a migraine that has taken pure codeine to shift, and I still feel very odd. I hadn't realised the moon was going to be full tonight, but it makes so much sense to me, having noticed these patterns before.

Feels unusually brutal this month though 🎑 Look after yourselves everyone!

Topgub · 15/05/2022 23:53

@Overthewine

Always happens with a full moon and a new moon, bang on 48hrs before both, shit starts getting progressively more bonkers.

really?

Never at any other time of the month?

There is zero evidence that the moon affects any behaviour.

How on earth could a ball of rock in space make people progressively bonkers?

Codswallop20 · 15/05/2022 23:58

When I worked nights on hospital wards they were always absolutely crazy on a full moon. If anything or anyone was going to kick off it was a full moon.

I would love to do some actual research on it

LicoricePizza · 16/05/2022 00:00

I do the same. Quite often I’ll be doing my thing & look up & see the moon is full & think aha so that’s why!! I believe in it. And also love the 🌙

bloodyplanes · 16/05/2022 00:01

Ex midwife here, always knew Labour ward would be super busy when it was a full moon. I struggle to sleep during one as well.

Topgub · 16/05/2022 00:12

@Codswallop20

You don't need to.

Its been done.

More than once.

No correlation found.

Bit worrying HCP believe in woo and ignore the evidence base

trainnane · 16/05/2022 00:17

Ask any teachers and coaches. The nights that kids go loopy and out of control are normally full moon. I know many a year teacher says the same

Codswallop20 · 16/05/2022 00:18

I totally do evidence based nursing.

However, you may agree after you've spent a few full moon night shifts with lovely old gents trying to put windows through and folk trying to climb through the ceiling after chatting to the obs machines about someone stealing their trainers.......

EmmaH2022 · 16/05/2022 04:18

Trying to see the eclipse as I’m up
no luck. Cloud cover or facing wrong direction? Anyone else trying to see it?

Topgub · 16/05/2022 06:11

@codswallop

And what about the nights (and days) when its not a full moon?

LanaGardner · 16/05/2022 06:24

Not just you I've been feeling really awful just lately anxiety/mini breakdown. Wept yesterday to some complete strangers in the woods because one of their dogs came over for a hug.
Normally a full moon gives me energy and cheers me up.
This one feels like a bad moon.

WarriorNewAgain · 16/05/2022 06:29

When I seed cycled properly my periods synced to the moon cycles. My body skipped one in the autumn in order to align...! Was rather freaky.

malificent7 · 16/05/2022 06:29

Yup....dds mental health has been bad, ditto mine...was practically suicidal on Friday. It's a thing.
Used to work in schools and kids behaviour got worse on full moon.

WarriorNewAgain · 16/05/2022 06:30

Yes I've had colleagues who've said certain children are v affected. Send school.

malificent7 · 16/05/2022 06:33

The " ball of rock on space" has a profound effect on gravity and effects tides.
Given it's effect on large bodies of water it stands to reason that it will effect our own bodies which are mostly composed of water...including the brain.
I am a scientist but believe the celestial bodies have an effect on life on earth.

Topgub · 16/05/2022 06:36

@malificent7

Where is the evidence?

Topgub · 16/05/2022 06:39

Also, the moon exists and presumably has an affect on gravity and tides even when its not full.

It doesn't actually reduce in size when we can only see half of it.

Why would how much light from the sun is shining on it affect behaviour?

@malificent7
Exactly, it effects seeds/plants and animals.
Many um moons ago I had some rescue ferrets, every night I would run them around the field with them chasing me I soon learnt never ever to do this on a full moon as they turned into complete Gremlins.

@malificent7

Where is the evidence?

All over the internet.

As it says in this link, light and moisture are at their peak, at a full moon. Light obviously has an effect on all living things.

It's honestly fascinating. Gardening is just one way you can test it for yourself. Weeds are harder to pull out on a FM as they absorb more moisture. Wait till the waning moon and they'll be easier to clear and less likely to grow back.

Topgub · 16/05/2022 08:10

@FoiledByTheInsect

Any actual data for it making humans 'batshit crazy'

I've checked 'all over the Internet' (google) and cant find any evidence for a correlation between a full moon and worsening behaviour in humans or any evidence to explain how a full moon could affect behaviour on humans.

If its light, does that mean the effect is only seen if its not cloudy?

This is not solid scientific evidence but i normally have my period on the full moon. The day before which i am completely loopy!
