AIBU to hope for a libel trial as entertaining as Vardy v Rooney and an outcome that rivals the Katy Hopkins debacle?

Companies House. It’s a matter of public record. See their website.

Tax returns aren’t filed on companies house.

RedWingBoots · 19/05/2022 14:24

Any defamation case I've paid attention to (admittedly not many) have been PR disasters.

@Manicsfan Like Jack Monroe and a certain Ms Hopkins?

Anyway it would be up to Lee Anderson to prove his assertions about Jack Monroe were true using the information he had at the time had made the statement.

All he has to prove is that it's a reasonably held opinion.

Easy

Patreon contributors X Patreon tier totals as detailed above.

  • Media appearances
  • News paper article payments
  • Advertising deals
  • Twitter partnership
  • Books sales
  • Blog income
  • PayPal donations

Easily in excess of PMs wage of160k a year which you could argue is actually only £80k a year as BoJo would get 80k anyway for being an MP.

As for claims it's made off the back of the poor.

Easy.

The books are marketed at the poor

MaryAndHerNet · 19/05/2022 11:01

What about someone who is potentially on 4 times more than Lee Anderson? who receives that money as 'contributions' because they claim poverty?

That's fine I suppose..

I've already said what (little) I think of Jack Munroe, but even if she was Satan herself it wouldn't make him any less scummy, would it?

RedWingBoots · 19/05/2022 15:30

@MaryAndHerNet then he will fail as he can't prove the books are marketed at the poor.

Her books are advertised through sites like The Guardian whose target is anyone who wants left of center news - and her recipes are given away free.

And he would have to explain Patreon to any judge. Poor people won't support someone through Patreon as they simply don't have the cash.

All the evidence is out there. It's been gone over again and again on here. Not that it makes any difference because this isn't going anywhere. She's not going to sue.

I think that’s very naive. People living in poverty donated to her personal PayPal for, I believe legal fees. She took the money despite knowing this and doesn’t appear to have used it for legal fees.

people in poverty might subscribe to her patreon. For several reasons.

Because she keeps telling them she is poor and her son is suffering because of it. Because they believe in the long run her tips will save them more than the £3.50 are just 2.

She did some fundraising for a food bank. The money went on buying her books to give to service users. As a result food banks direct people to her website, which earns her money. The more clicks the better.

The fact that the book was also in guardian is neither here nor there. People who aren’t living in poverty won’t buy the cheapest beans to rinse off the sauce. Which she did on this morning, don’t see how that wasn’t aimed at people in poverty.

She also claims herself ghat her audience is niche, which is why she was pissed off about Jamie Oliver.

nokitchen · 20/05/2022 09:16

She's slippery and tricky. Posts things on Twitter and deletes after a few hours. It's a stream of consciousness. I live very near to her. I think she'd be ill advised to pursue legal action.

SlightlyGeordieJohn · 20/05/2022 09:39

DyingForACuppa · 19/05/2022 08:51

Thing is, none of us know him or her personally. I don't like one word of LA's views but that doesn't make him scum.

I think someone on 80k a year advocating for people to try and survive on 30p of food a day IS scummy. I don't need to know anything else about him.

You can think he's a totally lovely bloke who just so happens to think the poor deserve malnutrition and starvation - but I don't. Scum.

Saying how someone on low money can make it go further is not the same as saying that they ought to be on low money.

I think it highly likely that he’d far prefer they were in a good job and able to afford a nice life.

Where are you getting the impression from that he wants people to be poor?

She would be very I’ll advised. She’s on record saying she earns less than £25k. I can assure people she brings in a LOT more than this. The rent on her property is a minimum of £2k a month….that’s MINIMUM. She loves in a very nice and sought after area.

Less than £25k after the rent is paid maybe. Anyone who thinks she’s on the bones of her arse though is living in cloud cuckoo land.

She has not filed her accounts in a long time, people could reasonably think she earns much more because she isn’t honest.

And she recently said she’s autistic so can’t lie.

YES you can lie as an autistic person, my son does but is pretty crap at lying.

She is very economical with the truth.

YouWhatLove · 20/05/2022 11:53

@WilmaFlintstone1 my 9yo has autism and is an incredible liar. The woman is very odd indeed.

Andromachehadabadday · 20/05/2022 12:38

So no one is allowed to question her because she claims to be autistic?

Thats quite convenient for her isn’t it 🙄

Maëlys · 20/05/2022 13:38

She self identifies as autistic. She isn’t diagnosed.

Crikeyalmighty · 20/05/2022 14:08

@DyingForACuppa I agree. Both self important , self obsessed twerps- but in totally different ways. Personally I think JM is pretty harmless and she isn't taking public money- LA though is taking public money for himself plus public money expenses (and yes I know that's not all for him) , so he could at least stop the 30p a meal per person bullshit and imply anyone using foodbanks just needs to learn to budget/cook. Some do- many don't. The government he is part of has created the kind of economy that means foodbanks are needed and celebrated with their own 'openings and buffet'

But she is taking public money, she has a Patreon through which she takes money from some quite poor people.

And why are you saying that he’s part of the government? He’s not.

Fridafever · 20/05/2022 14:23

Taking public money means money from the public purse not money from individual people.

He’s no more “taking” public money though than us a nurse or a teacher. He’s being paid for the job he’s doing just like anyone else employed by the state.

Fridafever · 20/05/2022 19:00

I didn’t say he was so I’m not sure why you’re replying to me.

AnonIsUsuallyAWoman · 20/05/2022 19:17

He's right and it won't be hard for him to prove.
She won't sue him because she knows this.
She hopes that by saying she will people will assume she has.

Did she really say because she is autistic she can't lie? Is she now trying to market herself as a mash up of William Tell and Joan of Arc.

A most unpleasant character but very savvy.

In case anybody cares, Jamie Oliver was on Peston Wednesday night and basically said that nutritional 30p meals were a load of bo*cks even if ingredients were bought on an industrial scale.

is this the same Jamie Oliver who is baulking at the postponement of the bogof deals in supermarkets because of the current economic climate? His reason being that they “lead to people eating too much or wasting food”?

what a load of crap. When we went through hard times after the redundancy in the last economic crash, bogofs got us through the week and left a little extra to buy fruit, vegetables and milk.

a man who advocates making your own chicken nuggets, fresh each time, with organic chicken, has no bloody idea what so many families are living like, right now.

our local supermarket’s current bogof is on oven bake, breaded fish fillets. Probably the only fish some kids have the opportunity to eat.

funny that jamie oliver is giving it large now but when kids were being given free school meal hampers made up of a couple of apples, a bag of pasta and cheese to last them a week during the pandemic your man was totally silent.

I haven’t heard a peep from Jamie Oliver about actual accessibility to healthy food. I haven’t heard him pressure the government on relieving food poverty in the UK. His brand is very much just class shaming disguised as caring about health

People giving their money to a cause they believe in is not “taking money from some quite poor people” If that was the case why do we let people use their money on online gambling or the lottery? It’s also usually less well off people giving money to charity as they can empathise with the situation of others so maybe we should cancel Children in Need and Comic Relief if the only criteria for something being fraudulent is that “some quite poor people” might be giving money to it.

Let’s all keep looking the other way about people like Rishi Sunak and his wife who make it onto the rich list by claiming non dom status and green card. The 1% are the real grifters.
