Upside down or right way up laundry

First world problem but which is right?

I peg tops by the hem to dry on the washing line. Trousers are pegged by the bottoms.
My parents peg tops by the shoulders and trousers are pegged at the waistband.

AIBU - peg by the shoulders (tops) /waistbands (trousers)
AINBU - peg by the hems (tops) / bottoms (trousers).

Light hearted obviously.

My mum used to say 'wear it on the top, hang it from the bottom. Wear it on the bottom, hang it from the top' Grin

Hotelhelp · 13/05/2022 18:38

I do the same as you. Trousers I think the waistband needs to be free to let it dry properly because it’s a bit thicker.

Redsparklybucket · 13/05/2022 18:39

If you wear on the top hang from the bottom if you wear on the bottom hand from the top! My husband does it the other way round, makes me so cross!!

Same here!

tops we put on a hanger, and hang the hanger on the line (special Lakeland gadget to hold in place)

trews hang by the waistband, unpeg and turn to repeg a few times.

smalls and socks go on an octopus hanger

SomersetONeil · 13/05/2022 18:40

I hang pretty much everything upside, but don’t really over-think it, TBH.

I haven’t voted either way, since I don’t do it either of the ways you have said.

bellac11 · 13/05/2022 18:40

OH does the washing in this house and he pegs my trousers by their bottoms and I cant stand it, it leaves little peg marks that you never really successfully iron out.

dementedpixie · 13/05/2022 18:40

I can't choose either of them as I hang tops upside down and trousers/skirts by the waistband

JaneJeffer · 13/05/2022 18:41

Tops by the bottom, bottoms by the top.

LoveSpringDaffs · 13/05/2022 18:42

Neither 😂

they all go over the line - trying to remember what I did when I had a long line... trousers/jeans by the waist, leggings t/shirts over the line & shirts by the bottom hem.

JaneJeffer · 13/05/2022 18:42

But if it's a jumper I think will stretch I put it across the line and peg at the armpits.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 13/05/2022 18:44

Tops from the bottom hem. Trousers from the leg ends else the waistband held by the pegs doesn't dry quickly.

Or if my dh is doing it - tops hung at the top with 10 pegs all along each long sleeve and bottoms hung slanted 😂

JulesRimetStillGleaming · 13/05/2022 18:45

I do it your way.

I am the least domesticated goddess I know so I would be surprised if I'm right but my way feels logical. You don't want peg marks where you can obviously see them.

newbiename · 13/05/2022 18:45

You're right @ImJustNotMeAnymore

Unanananana · 13/05/2022 18:47

Trousers by the bottom so the waistband dries and tops by the bottom hem. I don't have time to unpeg/turn/repeg.

How does a waistband dry if its pegged to the line or folded over??

ThinWomansBrain · 13/05/2022 18:47

I use an airer, so most things are folded and hang from the middle, except one pair of tailoered trousers that I dry from a hanger, clipped at the hem so the weight pulls out any creases.

WillYouDoTheFandango · 13/05/2022 19:01

DP and ExP for that matter both peg trousers from the knees and tops through the nipples. Really really irritating and almost impossible to get the peg marks out.

I hang everything from the top.

Today I learned that the clippy thing is called an octopus hanger

I love love love mumsnet

Moomeh · 13/05/2022 19:08

Ps I don't do either, I hang all things folded over in half over an airer. Yes it gets a horizontal crease through the middle, who cares though.

BUT I am the proud owner of no less than THREE "octopus hangers", two of which have a whopping 50 pegs each. I am living the dream.

pigsDOfly · 13/05/2022 19:13

I hang everything upside down.

If you hang tops from the shoulders surely you get pointy shoulders.

And as pps have said, trouser waistbands need to be free to dry properly.

Yarnasaurus · 13/05/2022 19:13

Tops from the bottom, bottoms from the top.

The secret with trousers is to peg with the waistband open, so shake them open and peg the back of the waistband only, then air/wind can flow through, on a windy day they act like a windsock and dry super quick.

bloodywhitecat · 13/05/2022 19:14

Tops are pegged under the armpit so I don't get annoying peg marks and bottoms are hung by the waist.

starfishmummy · 13/05/2022 19:16

My dh hangs his shirts by the shoulder. It seems illogical to me as he never thinks to wipe the line and he leaves pegs out to go rusty both of which can and do leave marks . At least if he's hung the shirts by the hem any marks will be hidden in his trousers.

PickAChew · 13/05/2022 19:19

Neither. I peg tops in the middle, right on the seam, to minimise stretching and peg marks. Trousers get pegged at the waistband, again because the peg marks show less.
