Upside down or right way up laundry

First world problem but which is right?

I peg tops by the hem to dry on the washing line. Trousers are pegged by the bottoms.
My parents peg tops by the shoulders and trousers are pegged at the waistband.

AIBU - peg by the shoulders (tops) /waistbands (trousers)
AINBU - peg by the hems (tops) / bottoms (trousers).

Light hearted obviously.

How does a waistband dry if its pegged to the line or folded over??

You peg it open at the top-not folded over.

I hang tops from the bottom and
bottoms from the top.

I'm still convinced that the waistband dries better when it's at the bottom as it moves more in the wind. Although this may be getting into marginal gain territory....!

Honestly, does this thread need doing AGAIN?

I suppose one good thing about HQ deciding to do away with Advanced Search is that topic that have been done 10,000 times on Mumsnet can always come across as new.

YANBU

TiddyTidTwo · 13/05/2022 21:18

I need to know.

Knickers...hang by one peg on the crotch right?

Wannabegreenfingers · 13/05/2022 21:19

I peg trousers by the waist line and tops under the armpits. Socks by the toes. You'll never see peg marks again on your clothes.

Mum2jenny · 13/05/2022 21:20

Peg tops from the bottom, but peg trousers/ shorts/ skirts from the waistband. Unless the top is very special then I put it on a hanger and peg the hanger to the line. Or I tumble dry the lot! ( minimally just now due to energy costs).

Wineat5isfine · 13/05/2022 21:25

Everything is pegged upside down with colour co-ordinated pegs.

Anything else is barbaric.

@WillYouDoTheFandango
Wait, what.... nipples? That's a weird place to peg. Do you mean that a top is folded over at the 'nipples line'?

Yes. But then with the pegs about 1/4 and 3/4 in. Right over the nipple points! You find out when you put on your T-shirt and look like you’re smuggling peanuts.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 13/05/2022 22:18

Upside down, one side only - it means the wind is more able to fill the inside and dry it quicker and you don't end up with peg dents in the shoulders.

BluebellField · 13/05/2022 22:20

Always tops from the bottom.

Bottoms usually from the bottoms too but sometimes pegged from the top. Keeping the washing on its toes.

oviraptor21 · 13/05/2022 22:24

Trouser waistbands just make sure the peg clips over the line and then onto the waistband. That way there's no doubling of fabric and minuscule effect on drying.

BeckyWithTheGoodHair010101 · 13/05/2022 22:26

Tops by the bottom, bottoms by the tops

IKnewPrufrockBeforeHeGotFamous · 13/05/2022 22:26

everything gets hung upside down. I really enjoy hanging washing for some reason

onemouseplace · 13/05/2022 22:28

Tops from the bottom, unless they are the sort that might go out of shape, then folded over just and pegged under the armpit. Never from the top otherwise you get peg marks on the shoulders - DH does this and it drives me potty.

Trousers from the waistband, and I'll turn if it looks like the waistband isn't drying.

What does this mean? You hang tops along the side rather than upside down/ right way up? Or you hang them upside down but only put a peg on one corner? Don’t they hang in a sort of bunch then?

My mum used to say 'wear it on the top, hang it from the bottom. Wear it on the bottom, hang it from the top' Grin

I do it this way too but never heard of that saying tho

Tops by the bottom, bottoms by the top.

Same

Theworldisquiethere · 13/05/2022 22:32

@EnjoythemoneyJane its a socktopus in our house too. The ikea ones even have eyes.

megletthesecond · 13/05/2022 22:33

Everything upside down on the line.
I never iron.

This is the best thing I've read on MN for a good while.
Nipple pegging and peanut smuggling...... 🤣🤣🤣 Thank you for cheering me up I genuinely laughed at that.
And I hang trousers by the back of the waist so they're open and tops by the bottom hem, underwear doesn't make it outside. Is that bottoms from the top and tops from the bottom? My brain hurts.

DinosaurFarmer · 13/05/2022 22:53

Tops from the bottom and bottoms from the top! 😀

Kite22 · 13/05/2022 23:09

Can't vote as neither of your options is right.

MrShadders has it right in the first reply.

Noisenough · 13/05/2022 23:30

We call the octopus hanger a knicker clipper 😂 most other items upside down, pleated skirts buy waist band.

Kat1953 · 14/05/2022 00:18

I mix it up.

Tops by their bottoms and bottoms by their tops (and undies on a socktopus Wink)
