Upside down or right way up laundry

First world problem but which is right?

I peg tops by the hem to dry on the washing line. Trousers are pegged by the bottoms.
My parents peg tops by the shoulders and trousers are pegged at the waistband.

AIBU - peg by the shoulders (tops) /waistbands (trousers)
AINBU - peg by the hems (tops) / bottoms (trousers).

Light hearted obviously.

My Nan taught me to hang it so the heaviest/thickest part is at the bottom

JurasicPerks · 13/05/2022 19:25

Neither of your choices.
Tops from bottom, bottoms from top.

GrouchyKiwi · 13/05/2022 19:27

I peg on the strongest seam, so on the shoulders for tops and waistbands for trousers. They need to be secure in the wind.

GrouchyKiwi · 13/05/2022 19:29

Oh yes, and I also peg so the waistband stays open on trousers, just one layer, not both.

I had a lady walk past when I was hanging out the washing one day who said "Oh, you're very good at hanging out your washing." Was a weird compliment. Grin

TheHumanSatsuma · 13/05/2022 19:30

Tops from the bottom, bottoms from the top.

iklboo · 13/05/2022 19:31

Tops by bottom, bottoms by top. My nana's mantra.

mrshadders · 13/05/2022 18:38

My mum used to say 'wear it on the top, hang it from the bottom. Wear it on the bottom, hang it from the top' Grin

This, only it was my grandmother who said it. she was born over 110 years ago and I imagine this was probably a phrase passed on to her by her mother.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 13/05/2022 19:35

Tops by the bottom hem, trousers by the waist. Waistband pegged on the back only so it's open.

Any tops that might get stretched or marked by the pegs are folded over the line and pegged in the armpit.

Socks pegged out matching ones next to each other so they can be paired as I take them off the line.

MadKittenWoman · 13/05/2022 19:36

Tops from the bottom, bottoms from the top. It's all about getting the wind to blow through.

lop32 · 13/05/2022 19:55

I have to peg trousers from the bottom. And unbuttoned so there's maximum airflow. Pegs on single layer of shirt for the same reason.

It's makes me very crotchety if someone folds anything over the line so it's double thickness and not open for drying. And with that, I really need to get some perspective....

IcakethereforeIam · 13/05/2022 19:55

Pants by bottom so waistband dries, tops by bottom 'cause pegmarks.. knickers so gusset is facing away from the neighbours, bras inside the house so the whole line doesn't get airborne Smile

MmeMeursault · 13/05/2022 19:58

Everything upside down as jeans waistbands need space to dry and not be folded up

MmeMeursault · 13/05/2022 20:00

@WillYouDoTheFandango
Wait, what.... nipples? That's a weird place to peg. Do you mean that a top is folded over at the 'nipples line'?

MajesticElephant · 13/05/2022 20:01

Tops from the bottom and bottoms from the top. Except mens shirts which go on a hangar.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 13/05/2022 20:03

Tops from bottom, bottoms from top.

EnjoythemoneyJane · 13/05/2022 20:07

FlibbertyGiblets · 13/05/2022 18:40

tops we put on a hanger, and hang the hanger on the line (special Lakeland gadget to hold in place)

trews hang by the waistband, unpeg and turn to repeg a few times.

smalls and socks go on an octopus hanger

Socktopus, surely?

Wafflehouse · 13/05/2022 20:09

Tops mostly go on hangers and either held on the line with the Lakeland things mentioned above or through the holes at the end of the arms of the rotary line. Trousers pegged at the ankle hems.

Dp does it differently, he isn’t bothered by peg marks in weird places, or if shirt sleeves are tucked inside themselves.

ItsJustASimpleLine · 13/05/2022 20:23

Depends on the item, I try to peg on seams so there's no mark to iron out.

Bluevelvetsofa · 13/05/2022 20:26

Tops from the bottom, bottoms from the top.

Shinyandnew1 · 13/05/2022 20:28

How does a waistband dry if its pegged to the line or folded over??

You peg it open at the top-not folded over.

I hang tops from the bottom and
bottoms from the top.

WeCouldBeSpearows · 13/05/2022 20:29

Tops by the bottom, bottoms by the top.

You are both half unreasonable, half reasonable

Ellie56 · 13/05/2022 20:37

JaneJeffer · 13/05/2022 18:41

Tops by the bottom, bottoms by the top.

Same here.

myuterusistryingtokillme · 13/05/2022 20:56

I hang upside down, that way peg marks aren't visible on shoulders etc

Trivester · 13/05/2022 21:02

Tops are hung by armpits, socks by toes, trousers by the thick side seams on the waist.

OvaryActions · 13/05/2022 21:06

Hotelhelp · 13/05/2022 18:38

I do the same as you. Trousers I think the waistband needs to be free to let it dry properly because it’s a bit thicker.

I always hang tops by the bottom and bottoms by the top, but what you're saying makes sense!! I'm definitely going bottoms up from now on 😂
