to not want to go on holiday ever again

noborisno · 08/05/2022 16:47

Anyone else just not bothered about going on holiday and would rather be home?

Just wondering if how many others feel the same way. I'm just not bothered and even find it a hassle. I could not care less if I was never to go abroad again in my life. I do like weekends away but anything longer I just want to be home again.

The absolute best part of going on holiday for me is getting to sleep in an actual bed, it might be a single or the bottom bunk, buts its a bed designated just for me and it beats the sofa with the dog hands down !

why don’t you treat yourself to a bed?!

Itsmythreadandilldeleteifiwantto · 08/05/2022 21:37

I have lived abroad for long periods, travelled etc and have no desire ever to go on holiday again, ever. Last went on holiday (in the UK) when the children were younger, which was about 8 years ago.

AllyCatTown · 08/05/2022 21:39

I hate the hassle of airports and getting to countries so I understand that part but I do love exploring new places when I’m there.

Do what suits you. I always mean to explore more of the UK. I’ve never even been to Wales or N Ireland.

astorsback · 08/05/2022 21:40

I do agree with sime posters that airports are one of the most miserable places on earth now. The parking miles away due to terrorism threat, the massive queues for check in, passport control, boarding - both outgoing and incoming - security checks that go on for hours, restrictions for everything, and just the over-busyness of everywhere, often referred to as 'the hustle and bustle' by those who enjoy it.

I will go abroad again as I love experiencing new places and cultures but the shine has been taken off in the last ten years.

LuckySantangelo35 · 08/05/2022 21:41

Silverswirl · 08/05/2022 20:15

I just don’t get the ‘I want to experience a different culture’.
I don’t enjoy being around different cultures. It frightens me because what happening is unfamiliar to me. Customs are unfamiliar. Unpredicable. I’m not sure what I’m meant to do in lots of situations abroad. Weather I’m walking into a rough place likely to get mugged. I feel people are staring at me and I feel like an easy target for scams, haggling, getting ripped off or something far worse.
Am I going to use the wrong etiquette when visiting the beach, resturant, cafe etc. Will there be jelly fish in the sea? Or other dangers I haven’t heard of.
im always on guard when in other countries, always got one eye open for danger (not in an AI hotel or similar). It’s not relaxing at all really.
I wish I didn’t feel like that and would love to just explore without worry. Really jealous of those that can.

@Silverswirl

lots of places are actually safer than the UK though. Lots of the Caribbean is (and no not the resorts, before anyone says)

kennycat · 08/05/2022 21:43

Yes yes yes!! I’ve not been abroad in over a
decade since having children but even our British holidays I hate. I like the idea and am the one that pushes to book them but then don’t really enjoy them and count down the days till I can be back home with my stuff and my routines and my bed!! I’m useless

@tomatoandherbs there is no room for a bed for me, everyone else has one though which is the main thing, keeping my eyes peeled on FB marketplace for a decent bed settee, but holidays = a whole bed for me.

Longleggedgiraffe · 08/05/2022 21:47

YANBU. This is how you feel at this time and those feelings must be respected. No one should deny you the right to feel this. But there may come a time when you might want to change your mind. If that day comes, don't feel you're letting yourself down by giving in. You're not.

InkySquid · 08/05/2022 21:56

Coeliac diagnosis ruined travelling for me. Whilst it's still possible, it requires a level of planning that takes out a lot of the enjoyment for me.

muppamup · 08/05/2022 21:59

I do get it, but I also think even if you're not that keen on being away there's something nice about the "break" from the norm element that helps inspire you for when you do get home again. For example, having the energy to suddenly complete that DIY project you were putting off for 5 months. Or helping you to decide to redecorate, or inspiring you to finish that work project when you get home. So whilst you might not love being away, the breaks help to resort your mind a bit for when you arrive back again.

muppamup · 08/05/2022 22:00

*reset not resort.

godmum56 · 08/05/2022 22:05

ReadyToMoveIt · 08/05/2022 20:29

Yeah I get that.
What I resent is people who have travelled frequently in their younger days, seen the world, had their fun, telling younger people that they shouldn’t fly anywhere because it’s ‘morally wrong’.
I try to live in an eco friendly way as much as possible, in all sorts of ways. But my family lives abroad. I will continue to fly to see them without feeling like a moral failure.

I get that its annoying but thats the same as people who used to smoke/drive without seatbelts and so on now saying that people shouldn't do it because its dangerous. They (we) can't go back and change what we did, so does that mean that we now can't have opinions about climate change and how to stop it? Personally I think that people should think about not having everything...so if you want to fly, then you have to cut your energy use elsewhere. I do foresee non essential flying becoming more expensive and less acceptable because its something not essential to many people's everyday lives.

@KangarooKenny

your bed will still be there when you get home though! If anything you’ll appreciate it more after a holiday 😄

@LuckySantangelo35 I think you are taking this a little bit too far.

People enjoy doing different things and enjoy being at different places. Some people can only have a good sleep in their own bed, in their own house. Some people dont like change. Some of it comes with age for some people. We are all different, you know.

How does doing something you don't want to do and dislike help you to reset anything? Unless you mean that the diy feels less horrible because at least you are back home?😂

Blinkingbatshit · 08/05/2022 22:08

Meeeeeee! 🙋‍♀️ Never really liked going abroad that often, despite doing languages at Uni! My home is paradise (when im
not doing some minging bit of Labour for its upkeep!!)…. But I know I’m lucky, many would consider my home & life a holiday compared to theirs. I think I’d feel the same wherever I was though….as long as I can make the room I live in comfy I’m OK!

Well no, it’s not, because I’ve never had any desire to smoke or to not wear a seatbelt. I don’t gain anything from those things. They aren’t the same at all.
You can have opinions on how to prevent climate change, of course. Others are entitled to think that those opinions are hypocritical, though. You can do whatever you want to prevent climate change, no one will force you to travel.

@kennycat

its funny isn’t it… because when I go away I realise how little stuff I actually need or want and I love the break away from routines because I find them stifling and mundane.

Yeah, I like my own bed who doesn’t, but I don’t pine for it when away like some posters seem to.

we’re just all so different! 🤷‍♀️ 😀

Frollop · 08/05/2022 22:23

I'm lucky I've been to many places abroad but for some reason I really don't like flying anymore although I know it's safer then being in a car. I also find the airport a hassle even if check in is quick etc. I don't get excited about holidays anymore sadly.

I use to wonder why some people I knew stopped going away ...I understand now...we all have our reasons.

Also some people live in lovely areas in lovely houses and are probably content with this and UK trips.

I also miss my own space at times when away with others.

The "same" bit is people who have done those things themselves now saying that they are wrong. I don't see how I am a hypocrite for changing my opinion on things I used to do without thinking because I now know better?

StrawberryMargarita · 08/05/2022 22:24

I’ve been lucky to do a lot of travelling in my life, went backpacking, did working holidays, have been to resorts and everything in between. It always defined me.

But lately I have just no interest at all in it. I hvent been abroad since before Covid and haven’t missed it. I enjoy it once I’m there but i dread it in the run up and feel like there’s nowhere left that I want to go to. I’m hoping that, in my case at least, there are other things which are affecting me which I might be able to fix, and get my love for it back again.

godmum56 · 08/05/2022 22:24

Got to say I am loving this new quotes of quotes of quotes facility

As I said, you are entitled to whatever opinion you want. The good thing is, no one is forcing you to fly anywhere, so you’re free to do your bit for the environment now after your past travel transgressions.

@Blinkingbatshit

I guess the thing is - however lovely your home, lifestyle whatever one thing you cannot control is the UK climate.

Staying in a lovely house is all well and good but if it’s cold and rainy for weeks on end that will impact things, most of us get sick of it.

We just don’t get that much warm, sunny weather in the UK (which is a shame)

And so that is why so many people will always be drawn to a holiday abroad over staying at home or having UK holiday. Holidays abroad will always just have the edge in that regard.

Trafficjamlog · 08/05/2022 22:27

God no. I live for holidays. Mind you I don’t like U.K. holidays. A few days is fine, def not any more than that
