Would you let DC stay over?

NC because I'm probably going to be laughed at and might be being a bit "PFB" here... but here goes.

DC is 13 months old. Never stayed overnight away from DP and I before. A relative has offered to have DC overnight in couple of weeks time so DP and I can have a much needed date night and a "night off" for my birthday.

I was going to say yes ... but... relative has just got a new puppy (German Shepherd), 8 weeks old. DC has never been around dogs before. Puppy has never been around babies / toddlers before. This, on top of it being DC's first night away from us, is making me worry that it's not a good idea. DP doesn't think it's anything to worry about.

Would you be happy with this?

No, but only because of the dog. I'm probably paranoid but I would find it hard to relax

Mangogogogo · 07/05/2022 20:39

I’d be worried too but then again I have dogs and I’d like to think that if people trust me with their kids they would trust me to keep my dogs away from them (if preferred) and/or act appropriately if they have contact.

lancsgirl85 · 07/05/2022 20:39

Thanks. I would find it hard to relax, too. I know its just a puppy but I think German shepherds can be quite territorial from my limited knowledge.

Can you take DS round this week to see what the dog is like with him, and more importantly what the set up is and how likely these people are to keep the puppy away from your DS?

Tittyfilarious81 · 07/05/2022 20:42

No , not with a dog I wouldn't be comfortable with it at all

Whoatealltheminieggs · 07/05/2022 20:42

Nope. Wouldn’t fly with me.

Echobelly · 07/05/2022 20:42

I might not only because of the puppy. It's not likely to be able to do much harm but I have to say I wouldn't be sure, too many unpredictable things.

No because they live some distance away, we were planning to go away for the weekend and stay in a hotel near where they live.

Perhaps I'm not so PFB after all judging by these responses.

It really is too many unknowns. DC's first night away from us, first time around a puppy, and the puppy is an unknown too and getting used to a new home etc ....

Is this relatives first dog?

lancsgirl85 · 07/05/2022 20:46

Yes first dog.

OP posts:
emerald1981 · 07/05/2022 20:46

No I wouldn't be comfortable with it

FabulousKilljoys · 07/05/2022 20:46

Wouldn't bother me at all.

Lasana · 07/05/2022 20:47

Normally yes, but with a puppy, it would be a no from me.

PennyPinkPineapple · 07/05/2022 20:47

No I wouldn't be okay with that

quietnightmare · 07/05/2022 20:47

Your not paranoid. I wouldn't I don't trust dogs especially untrained ones. Puppy will probably love the baby but it's your choice

Crimesean · 07/05/2022 20:47

Absolutely not - new to dog owning, first sleepover... wouldn't be happening on my watch. Too much scope for something to go wrong.

lancsgirl85 · 07/05/2022 20:47

I realise that "relative" sounds random. I just didn't want to write identifying details but I don't think this is. It's my DF and his partner, my DSM. They love our DC dearly and would keep her safe I'm sure. But it's just too unknown for me.

The puppy wouldn't bother me.

But do the relatives really know what they're taking on when they're agreeing to have a young puppy in the house as well as a baby/toddler?

This is my thought process too.

Is dc bottle fed? Has he/she had nap times without you & gone to sleep easily? Does he spend much time with this relative in the day? Has this relative done babycare in the last 10 years?

If any of those are a no, then no.

avocadotofu · 07/05/2022 20:49

Definitely not because of the new dog.

If you trust them ask them that for DC to Sam ray the rules would have to be that the puppy isn't allowed near the baby and things that need to be put in place to ensure this and if they aren't happy to do that then just say thanks but no thanks for now and maybe when puppy is trained and baby is bigger and had a few sleepovers then maybe

Xmasbaby11 · 07/05/2022 20:50

No way, not with a new dog.

123rd · 07/05/2022 20:51

A no from me, & not just because of the dog
