Unfortunately my wages have only gone up 1% so I am looking to cut down. Anything that is basically a luxury - hair colour at hairdressers, windows cleaner, fortnightly house cleaner is probably going to have to go. If they put up their prices this makes it only more likely I will cancel. I appreciate their outgoings will have gone up but if they not affordable they will lose a lot of business.

My wages have gone up a grand total of 26p per day from this month 😂
not QUITE at the level of inflation just yet…

Lush bath bombs

What on earth do these cost now? They were already Shock £££ years ago

webseb · 07/05/2022 01:30

Sparking water is up, as are protein bars. Shopping is probably up by £20 a week, somehow. I haven't noticed anything else other than utilities.

webseb · 07/05/2022 01:36

"A chicken for £3-£5 should not be a thing. They're just chicken shaped misery and taste nothing like chicken at all."

It's a sad thing. Short, sad lives they lead.

HRTQueen · 07/05/2022 01:43

Chinese take away. I let ds order the usual from our usual and was shocked when I later saw the price. £6.20 for prawn toast 😬 that’s the usual cost of a main dish

i don’t even particularly like Chinese I wish I agreed to Thai but told him to go for the cheaper option

everything else but this was my shock increase for yesterday

Panicmode1 · 07/05/2022 01:52

Yeo Valley strawberry yoghurts have been £1.85 for 4 for ages....£2.15 now. And Lurpak butter was always expensive, but was over £7 for the big tub. I only really noticed those two in particular on my last shop because we have 4 teens, and they eat a LOT of toast and only those particular yoghurts (after extensive trying of many different brands and flavours)....

Children parties in soft play, before lockdown use to average around £10-£12 per child now £16+!!!

TheLadyDIdGood · 07/05/2022 04:41

Cadburys options chocolate drink is now £4 in Morrisons

Mummyoflittledragon · 07/05/2022 05:47

Our Next leather sofas. I checked the increase out of curiosity as I noticed the sofas in the most recent Next sale seem expensive, more like the full price in 2020.

January 2020, our leather sofa was £699. Now £1125. Just over 60% increase. A snuggle sofa we bought in the July 2020 (amazing lockdown) sale for £299 reduced from £499. The same spec snuggle full price is £675. Shock.

Have also noticed food prices creeping up.

whiteroseredrose · 07/05/2022 06:19

Not a necessity, but flights and accommodation.

The couple of years immediately pre Covid we had a long weekend in Rome then one in Florence. The cost for flights and a nice apartment for 4 adults was £500 - 600.

Now it is more than that for flights alone, however I try to jiggle it. The total cost is way over £1000 so we can't do it.

I know that all the cheap flights were really bad for the planet generally, but those were rare treats for us.

£15.50 for 2 fish suppers tonight. I was shocked 😳

That's extremely cheap!

mycatisannoying · 07/05/2022 06:37

That's extremely cheap!

Depends on the size. Where I live it was a similar price last year, haven’t been recently. But the fish would feed 3 people, the chips 4.

FourTeaFallOut · 07/05/2022 06:59

My home insurance renewal was up by £110 so obviously I switched. I mean, you expect them to crowbar in a bit of lazy tax for the privilege of just letting it roll over to the next year but that's taking the piss.

Freysimo · 07/05/2022 07:01

Harrriet, lamb's lettuce is my tortoises favourite too. Moses is very fussy about his food so I always get it for him. Fortunately he will eat dandelions in the garden as well when he's out.

Postage. Again.

CrispSandwichesRule · 07/05/2022 07:12

I discovered the other week that McDonalds change their prices depending on which you are at. I’m not talking tourist areas etc, I’m talking one mile between the one at the top of the hill and the one at the bottom. 30p extra I spent because of traffic!

Woah. We just did one of those for £8 per child with a party room and food. We are in a very low income area though.

It's a world wide issue, we have had effectively 2 years full on lockdown that a lot of people where championing and wanting more whilst also thinking that it wouldn't cost us in the long term, add on to that Putin deciding he wanted a legacy and China in full on authoritan meltdown.

Everyone has played a part in this, it's a global issue and no side of the political wing can solve it, there are no easy solutions as some will realise when interest rates will need to rise if inflation kicks in and it has an impact on the past ever increasing house prices.

There is no magic bullet, and no the oppostion party being in power will not solve the situation, this is the black swan that the stoped clock loons worried about when we just limped out of the 2008 GFC

Everyone has played a part, some wanted harsher and longer lockdowns, some expected ever increasing house prices, some expected a never ending supply of cheap labour to keep prices down.

Luckily our inflation is less than others at the minute, but there is no simple solution and you just have to get by.

Yes it's a world issue, but other countries have introduced a windfall tax have more generous welfare systems than ours. They also didn't have to spend billions on track and trace or dodgy PPE contracts did they? Or make us so heavily reliant on imported fuel. They are using this reliance to not introduce a windfall tax and help people who are struggling to eat. It is their job to run the country in a way that protects people from this surely? We do pay our taxes for that.

I guess many countries in the world are in the same boat too, but it isn't ok just because there are many countries going through the same thing. Their government's should all be accountable.

Let's face it though, it's not really the governments in control here is it? Our economic system isn't fit for purpose anymore. We have to endure these periods of boom and bust because it suits a small number of people.

Chanel05 · 07/05/2022 07:49

Iceland's packet of two chicken breasts. Was £2 a few months ago, now £2.85!

ChrisReasBathEggs · 07/05/2022 07:55

I will add in what I have notice now.

Food bill up by 25%

Rent up by £25

Gas and electric is up £50pm

Petrol - can't calculate it as we have changed cars but was at least 70 a week. The new E10 fuel is awful, so we have gone back to diesel and down to 1.6l.

UK holidays are utterly ridiculous. It is at the point now where holidaying abroad can be cheaper than here in UK. I've paid 1k for a cottage for a week out of season and they were charging another 1.5k for the same in July. You used to be able to book a weekend away in Autumn for 400 quid, but now it's 600. I know utilities have gone up, but I can't see people using £200 over a 3 night stay. I think next year with the cost of living crisis and if abroad is a cheaper option then the owners of these places might get a bit of a shock.

Absolutely bloody everything. Except salaries….

Although the window cleaner’s salary has gone up to cover overheads!
I don’t begrudge him/her that but if my salary hasn’t gone up then their services would be one of the first things I cull from my outgoings.
