Sainsbury 48 cat food pouches from £8.90 to £11.70. But what hasn’t gone up? Only thing I’ve noticed is that the 4 pack of chocolate bars in supermarkets seems to be consistent at £1.

BlueBeeSpots · 06/05/2022 21:32

Multipacks of invisible trainer socks at Next. Was £7 when I last bought them (IIRC). Now £10

It's a world wide issue, we have had effectively 2 years full on lockdown that a lot of people where championing and wanting more whilst also thinking that it wouldn't cost us in the long term, add on to that Putin deciding he wanted a legacy and China in full on authoritan meltdown.

Everyone has played a part in this, it's a global issue and no side of the political wing can solve it, there are no easy solutions as some will realise when interest rates will need to rise if inflation kicks in and it has an impact on the past ever increasing house prices.

There is no magic bullet, and no the oppostion party being in power will not solve the situation, this is the black swan that the stoped clock loons worried about when we just limped out of the 2008 GFC

Everyone has played a part, some wanted harsher and longer lockdowns, some expected ever increasing house prices, some expected a never ending supply of cheap labour to keep prices down.

Luckily our inflation is less than others at the minute, but there is no simple solution and you just have to get by.

geminiflanagan · 06/05/2022 21:41

Last week the ground coffee we buy from Tesco was £6 for a double pack. This week its £7.20.

Lurleene · 06/05/2022 21:41

Hotels, even the usual chains. I go on lots of cheap and cheerful short trips and rarely spend more than 60 quid a night fir a perfectly fine room. I'm looking to go away next month and even a blimmin Travelodge is 350 for the weekend 😮

Giraffesandbottoms · 06/05/2022 21:42

*My window cleaner, it would appear that a bucket of water has gone up by 20%

I know fuel prices have gone up, but he stays very local so not exactly doing the miles*

his cost of living has gone up….

Lush bath bombs

Omg yes really shouldn’t be spending money on bath bombs but they are my treat and was so shocked today at the price of them

HerRoyalNotness · 06/05/2022 21:44

H works in another town and his rent went up $400/mth! 40% increase. Shocked I was. Of course he doesn’t get extra money to cover that so it’s out of our pocket.

Lex345 · 06/05/2022 21:45

Aldis Beef and Pork mince was £2.99 last week. Today it was £4.19

and second hand cars are a fortune!

new bikes and second hand bikes have gone up by about 40%.

SpringSunshine09 · 06/05/2022 21:56

Sky. Our bill went up by £39 and when they called the best they could do was an increase of 'just' £10 but we had to give up movies and kids shows. I wanted to get rid of sky entirely but my DH is a big F1 fan. It just makes me angry that companies like sky are making increased profits... billions. They do not need to increase prices, they are just taking advantage of the current climate.

FabulousKilljoys · 06/05/2022 21:59

Dog food has gone up by £1.50.

And Lidl seems to have added about 20p to just about everything.

Mummapenguin20 · 06/05/2022 22:01

Nappies. 4.25 up to 5.50

SkirridHill · 06/05/2022 22:02

Milkman has increased by about 8p per pint. I noticed the nappies I usually buy have been discounted if you have a Clubcard in Tesco, but even the discounted price is up by 50p.

Allywill · 06/05/2022 22:02

Whats with the Hmm, maybe everything he uses has gone up

Quite. With Inflation running at nearly 10%, everyone needs to increase their income merely to stay treading water.

Unfortunately my wages have only gone up 1% so I am looking to cut down. Anything that is basically a luxury - hair colour at hairdressers, windows cleaner, fortnightly house cleaner is probably going to have to go. If they put up their prices this makes it only more likely I will cancel. I appreciate their outgoings will have gone up but if they not affordable they will lose a lot of business.

Justanotherlurker · 06/05/2022 22:03

They do not need to increase prices, they are just taking advantage of the current climate.

An apt comment that shows how someone doesn't understand the concept of inflation and portray the alternative in a simplistic way of just profits.

Neverendingdust · 06/05/2022 22:04

Fortunately I’m in a position where the price increases won’t affect my living standards, I’m one of the lucky ones who can take the hit… for now, but it certainly makes you think twice about certain things.

What worries me far more is the impact these rising prices will have on those who just can not afford to make sacrifices because they’re already on the absolute breadline living off literal pennies. Sooner rather than later we’re going to start to feel the fallout of millions of disadvantaged fellow citizens who are finding living costs impossible to maintain.

The potential this has to wreak utter havoc through our society is frightening. Food banks alone are at risk of seeing a decline in donations as people will be mindful of their shopping even more so now.

For all our sakes I hope a solution is found to ease the burden on our most vulnerable before it’s too late.

NeededAction · 06/05/2022 22:04

Interesting re the ‘chocolate bars still 4 for a pound’ - I was chuffed to pick up four snickers for a pound. On consumption, they felt smaller and I was so annoyed to read they were 216 calories. 216?! A bog-standard snickers used to be 296 calories!! That’s a lot less snickers for my money :/ I don’t know if the reduction in size is recent but it’s the first time I’d noticed
