How much would you expect this meal to cost?

I'm not sure if I'm a bit unrealistic with my expectation here so I thought I'd see what wise Mumsnetters think!

We had a meal out at popular chain Italian restaurant. We ordered:

4 x main meals (3 x pizzas and 1 x pasta dish)
1 x meal from child menu (pasta dish)
4 x soft drinks (3 x Coca Cola, 1 x Sprite)

No starters, no desserts, no alcoholic drinks.

What would you roughly expect the total of the bill to be? (Not London if that makes a difference?!)

I am not surprised but it is a lot of money for just one course each and no alcohol! We would usually have starters and dessert, probably either hot drinks at the end and or wine. What you've described would definitely feel like a cheap meal or a lunch, but isn't actually cheap! I think of pizza as a cheap option and not a proper meal, yet it's often £12 each or even more.

The cost of eating has gone up for understandable reasons and we are not doing it so much.

Kite22 · 05/05/2022 23:29

I was going to guess £75

<preens>

However, how can it be a shock when the bill came...... surely all the prices were on the menu when you were choosing what to have ?

For this type of meal we go to pizza express and use Tesco vouchers especially now teens eat more than me.

Beaconoflight · 05/05/2022 23:31

70 - 80 quids

frenchfancy81 · 05/05/2022 23:33

Wow quite a bit of variation already!

So I was expecting closer to £60 ... it was £75. Each main was £14 ish, child meal £7 and drinks £3 each. I think prices have definitely gone up a lot as I'm sure we wouldn't have paid this much on past occasions. Just took me by surprise a little!

I guessed £73!

I was going to say around about £60. Things have got so pricy!

Here's mine from the weekend if anyone wants to take a guess:

Independent cafe at the seaside
1 all day breakfast
1 goat's cheese salad
1 Kid's sausage, chips and peas
1 coke
1 apple juice
1 bottled water

Any guesses?

£40?

Ohwowhoho · 05/05/2022 23:36

Commenting before reading the answer but around £70? Including service fee

heartofgoldcoins · 05/05/2022 23:40

Five people having dinner with plenty left to take home for 75£ really isn't bad imo

ZenNudist · 05/05/2022 23:42

I guessed £71, or £78 /£80 with tip.

Seems about standard for a chain Italian.

ZenNudist · 05/05/2022 23:44

I'm guessing £40 too for @UndertheCedartree

Tequilamakesmehappy · 05/05/2022 23:44

£80 Minimum - £90 Maximum

mishmased · 05/05/2022 23:45

Well I'd say closer to £70-80.
We're in Mallorca at the moment and went out with the kids for a meal yesterday.
2X Kids meal nuggets and chips
1X kids meal pasta
1X adult meal fish (€25)
3x Fanta
1X water
🟰 €75

TheHatinaCat · 05/05/2022 23:45

I was going to say £80.

You're better off with a local family run Italian than the chains IMO.

Happylittlethoughts · 05/05/2022 23:46

80 ish

Blackalice · 05/05/2022 23:46

£80 in Zizzi
