How much would you expect this meal to cost?

I'm not sure if I'm a bit unrealistic with my expectation here so I thought I'd see what wise Mumsnetters think!

We had a meal out at popular chain Italian restaurant. We ordered:

4 x main meals (3 x pizzas and 1 x pasta dish)
1 x meal from child menu (pasta dish)
4 x soft drinks (3 x Coca Cola, 1 x Sprite)

No starters, no desserts, no alcoholic drinks.

What would you roughly expect the total of the bill to be? (Not London if that makes a difference?!)

£66

Lemons1571 · 05/05/2022 23:06

£75 plus tip

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 05/05/2022 23:07

I'd have said £70-80 too. Soft drinks surprisingly expensive I find when eating out so all adds up.

KermitlovesKeyLimePie · 05/05/2022 23:07

£80

Sofielou · 05/05/2022 23:08

@NoSquirrels

Yes it was pretty mediocre but the pizzas were huge, so we had some to take home. But still! I was a bit 😱 when the bill came.

I would have guessed £80-90 but tbh have very minimal ideas of cost of eating out. On the few occasions that we eat out or have a takeaway it always seems preposterous until I try a vague tot up in my head. Then I can see where the costs go.

gah2teenagers · 05/05/2022 23:09

Was going to say £75 but prezzos take Tesco club card points so would be just the drinks.

UndertheCedartree · 05/05/2022 23:10

I was going to say around about £60. Things have got so pricy!

Here's mine from the weekend if anyone wants to take a guess:

Independent cafe at the seaside
1 all day breakfast
1 goat's cheese salad
1 Kid's sausage, chips and peas
1 coke
1 apple juice
1 bottled water

Any guesses?

Whisp3r · 05/05/2022 23:11

£55

Tenner a pizza, fiver for kid's meal, £2.50 a drink.

PeekAtYou · 05/05/2022 23:12

Between £80 and £90

alltheteeshirts · 05/05/2022 23:13

I'd expect about £80, but if it's an average chain, I'd expect some form of discount to be available.

NippyWoowoo · 05/05/2022 23:14

Oh I see you've updated but I did £73

£14 mains
£7 child
£2.500 drinks

I think that's average, tbh pub meals have gotten eye-wateringly expensive

I got £34.45 😂 don’t ask I don't even remember myself

Onceuponatimethen · 05/05/2022 23:18

£70 plus service charge

Xmasbaby11 · 05/05/2022 23:18

About £70

NippyWoowoo · 05/05/2022 23:19

Who wants to guess how much I (stupidly) paid for fish&chips at my local pub? 🥴 (SE, far from posh area)

PlasticineMeg · 05/05/2022 23:20

I think £75 is very reasonable - £15ph on average for everyone to have food and drink

vintagebeehive · 05/05/2022 23:20

£57

Keekabooyou · 05/05/2022 23:21

Just had a similar meal at a chain and it was £72. Not London though.

PlasticineMeg · 05/05/2022 23:21

I’m going for a meal out tomorrow, checked the menu today. Mediocre restaurants, not a chain but not exactly posh either. Think gastro pub. Burgers are £18 each then you have to buy fries separately! From £4 right up to £9 if you want a load of crap on top! So £22 for burger and chips!!

Good guess but higher ⬆️

DolphinaPD · 05/05/2022 23:04

I'd expect 55-60, and still feel overcharged.

Same. How can they justify the price of pizzas.

HereTodayHereTomorrow · 05/05/2022 23:23

I’m a Londoner, so that may influence, but £110-£130?
