To say it’s only a game? Man City supporters wife

First day of holiday likely to be ruined by v grumpy Man City supporter whose first words this morning were ‘it’s such an injustice’.

OP posts:
LunaAzul · 05/05/2022 08:05

He'll get over it. Premier League is much more important. Rather win that any day of the week instead of something run by UEFA.

DinoRock · 05/05/2022 08:06

hangrylady · 05/05/2022 08:03

Why on Earth would you think that based on the OP? Are you one of those who thinks all football supporters are wife beating thugs? Ridiculous comment.

Not all of them no. Ridiculous comment.

brookstar · 05/05/2022 08:08

Then why make that comment Dinorock? There was nothing in the OP to suggest violence yet that was your first thought? It was a ridiculous comment to make!

MarchingOnTogether · 05/05/2022 08:11

It wasn't just a game! It was a champions league semi final! One one that they threw away in the dying moments of full time. That's gotta hurt!
Let him sulk, he will get over it. Least city still have the title to play for, some of us are just praying to avoid the drop

Because what is the harm in checking with OP that she doesn't think he's going to turn nasty? We don't all live in ideal land where a sulky man doesn't mean he's going to snap later if you try to down play it.

Momicrone · 05/05/2022 08:13

Football and violence do have a connection

brookstar · 05/05/2022 08:13

Okay, you tell yourself that Dinorock!

Momicrone · 05/05/2022 08:14

And he is a man child tantruming toddler. His family are way more important then a bunch of men he's never met.

Shodan · 05/05/2022 08:15

I have perfected a range of utterances over the years that make it sound like I'm a) listening and b) sympathising or c) celebrating with the football fans in my household.

They're pretty much the same as those noises you make when your child is telling you a long involved story about Minecraft or somesuch.

Mind you I've sometimes also offered sage advice like "They should've kicked the ball into the net more often, then they would've won" or "Why are they all running that way, they'd be better running the other way" so I'm not 100% certain anyone listens to me either...

But what bit of the OPs post suggested violence?

I'm well versed in how the football world works and the link between football and violence but there's also a link between bank holidays and violence, Christmas and violence however when people talk about their partners being grumpy over Christmas nobody assumes violence.

The common denominator isn't football. It's alcohol.

DinoRock · 05/05/2022 08:18

brookstar · 05/05/2022 08:13

I don't need to tell myself anything. I have my life experience you have yours. I stand by my question.

TitoMojito · 05/05/2022 08:21

AgnesNaismith · 05/05/2022 07:07

But it is just a game though? Urgh toddler men and their football tantrums are so unattractive.

This 100%. Can't stand football culture

Theluggage15 · 05/05/2022 08:23

God, what a stupid extrapolation Dino.

If I was a Man City supporter I would be very upset. They were 6 mins away from final. Many women are just as passionate about football as men, such a sexist attitude some women on mumsnet have.

DinoRock · 05/05/2022 08:24

however when people talk about their partners being grumpy over Christmas nobody assumes violence.

  1. We are not all the same poster I don't care what other people post.
  1. I simply asked. I didn't assume violence. I just asked if she thought he might. OP said no.
  1. I know that "a bit grumpy" can sometimes be a cover for he's being bloody awful and when you look deeper into a situation there is more to it.
Blarting · 05/05/2022 08:27

@DinoRock stop projecting!

RJnomore1 · 05/05/2022 08:29

If I was a Man City fan I’d be gutted this morning. Let him work through it.

what a stupid comment about violence.

SnottyLottie · 05/05/2022 08:29

I’m in the same boat. It will soon turn to him ranting about how corrupt EUFA is anyway and how winning the league is more important 😆

Thatswhyimacat · 05/05/2022 08:32

Say that there is the silver lining that City can now focus on the league!

I'm an LFC fan and last nights game was one that will be talked about for a long time - in context of football it was a big one, and the ref made some questionable decisions against City. My DH often just needs to babble out his feelings to someone and I'm the only person around - I've actually come to be really interested by listening! I find men having something they are passionate about very attractive.

hanahsaunt · 05/05/2022 08:32

If you had been sitting with your sobbing 14yo ds last night you wouldn't be saying that (albeit thinking it). He was dreading the comments from school but managed to be a little philosophical by the time he had to go. Walking it out up a glen sounds like a perfect strategy.

hangrylady · 05/05/2022 08:33

DinoRock · 05/05/2022 08:06

Not all of them no. Ridiculous comment.

No you're ridiculous. There is absolutely nothing in the OP that indicates that the husband is violent. You have clearly reached that conclusion because he's a football fan.

brookstar · 05/05/2022 08:34

My DHs silver lining is that he decided against going to Madrid to watch the game as the trip home when you've lost and you're hungover is brutal!

Barton10 · 05/05/2022 08:41

Fellow Man City supporter's wife here and mine sulked all night and carried it on this morning, moaning about cheating refs etc. I chose to ignore him and be thankful that I was not working from home with him today. At least it is one less game to watch this season!!

XelaM · 05/05/2022 08:43

To be fair to your husband, that was an unbelievably cruel way to lose. I love Ancelotti though so am very happy 😆

Abouttimemum · 05/05/2022 08:47

@AgnesNaismith erm, I’m a massive football fan, and I’d be gutted if this happened to my team. I’m not a toddler. I wouldn’t grump about though. Well, I might have a morning of moping. I’d be fine after a brew and a McMuffin though.
what a sexist comment!

DottyDotAgain · 05/05/2022 08:47

It really was a shocker though! I'm an MCFC fan and had to watch it with my 18 year old who supports Utd.... We have a rule though - no taking the piss or gloating immediately afterwards - it's allowed a couple of days later but not at the time!

Mind you - we were both gobsmacked at last night's game - I'm not surprised your DH is grumpy - if he's over 40 he'll have been taken back to the City of old - it's just how I remember them being....
