Washing machine

Noglassjustthebottleandastraw · 05/05/2022 03:41

So my washing machine packed up for good tonight. Can anyone please recommend a great washing machine that takes large loads, is quick and kind the environment. Budget £1k and yes posting here for traffic.

Am I being so unreasonable for wanting a washing machine that takes a large load of washing?

Yes you are being unreasonable this is nothing but a myth.

We can see this thread is quite old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best washing machine page with plenty of great options tried and tested by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

I love my Bosch and would recommend it to anyone, mine is 8kg which is big enough for me but I think they come bigger. The regular cycle is 1 hour, but there are quicker options.

Noglassjustthebottleandastraw · 05/05/2022 03:51

@DailySheetWasher thank you. What can you fit in 8kg? Will have a Google at your recommendation.

I don’t have one, but when we were looking for a new WM, these Ebac kept popping up. If our WM hadn’t been fix-able, we would have gone for Ebac.

LouiseOuiOui · 05/05/2022 04:20

Miele XL. Absolutely love it.

I can do the bedding from my king bed (sheet, duvet cover and 4 pillow cases) easy. Not daily, despite my username!

At least 3 bath fluffy sheets plus random face washers, tea towels etc.

My kids are both very large people and are constantly swapping in and out of school/work/sport uniforms, plus gym gear, so I do need to wash a lot but I had a 10kg before this one and it didn't make a lot of difference.

DailySheetWasher · 05/05/2022 06:21

that should read 'fluffy bath sheets'. They're huge, nearly 6' tall.

Samsung eco bubble.. by far the best purchase for my house.. along with the Samsung dryer.
10 year warranty comes with it so obviously if anything goes wrong you can get a new machine or replacement

3monkeybars · 05/05/2022 06:55

I've also just bought a Samsung eco bubble add wash - it's 9kg which takes LOADS, and is the washer dryer version so it came in at £720ish.
Im really impressed so far, it's so easy to use and washes brilliantly. Much better than the more expensive AEG I used to have.

IAmSantaOhYesIAm · 05/05/2022 06:58

Yep a Samsung eco bubble here too! 9kg is loads bigger than my previous 7kg one. And it plays a lovely tune when the load is finished.
less than £500 in curry’s.

Alittlenonsensenowandthen · 05/05/2022 07:02

My Bosch eco silence is 8kg, quiet and fab.

Lincslady53 · 05/05/2022 07:20

We have a smaller Samsung and it is the first we have had that is easy to understand and use. Really pleased with it.

VaVaVoombangabang · 05/05/2022 07:33

Another Bosch user here, had my latest one for around 10 years, and another before that for about 15. No problems, just look after the usual hoses/filter cleaned out regularly etc and only use washing powder, never liquid/pods. I would say you really dont need an all singing/dancing machine with loads of features, most of them are never used, but I do use the quick wash 40mins I think, but never say the sports or other 'special' ones. Also its never had a service.

Its also a large capacity which I love takes a lot to fill and the door opens fully flat, (which my current one in rental does not and it drives me mad) and the draw is easy to pull out to clean.

I have also had a brand new Siemens (again in a rental) and did not think it was as good as the Bosch (made in the same factory I think, same company) and did not clean as well.

Think sometimes its the luck of the draw, a friend paid a crazy amount for a top of the range Miele and it lasted 2 years with lots of problems and repairs.

DotBall · 05/05/2022 07:36

I have had a 10kg Samsung Ecobubble for about 7 years now and it is excellent, better than my previous Bosch. I wash my horse rugs in it so it copes with absolutely anything 🤣

monkeysox · 05/05/2022 07:37

We've recently got Bosch 8kg it's smaller drum than my old Hotpoint but washes so much better.

Nightmanagerfan · 05/05/2022 07:39

I got an LG 10.5kg direct drive this week and I love it. I can fit at least 50% extra in it. I changed all our sheets yesterday and fitted in one set each of king sized, double and toddler bedding and still had room for a bath towel! Game changer. I think it came in at less than £500, my sister has a similar one and it has lasted well.

EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter · 05/05/2022 07:48

I’ve got a 10kg Samsung eco bubble and it’s been wonderful. It handles king size quilted throws and the like.

Ohnonevermind · 05/05/2022 07:54

I’ve a Miele, it’s a workhorse. I’ve had it for 16 years. It needed some repairs and the workman checked and said it’s already done 23000 hours and it should make 30,000. I’m now very attached to it. We’re moving and I’m bringing it with me although they’ve offered to leave their washing machine

he says the money is spent on good drum and other parts. He doesn’t rate machines with lots of bells and whistles because the money is being spent on electronic chips rather than the washing machine parts

LowlandLucky · 05/05/2022 08:27

Ebac, made in England and comes with a 7 year warranty. Brilliant machine

barneymcgroo · 05/05/2022 08:31

If you can afford Miele, do it. They're designed to last about twice as long as other ones, so you're actually saving money...

Somanysocks · 05/05/2022 08:35

Another vote for Samsung ecobubble, had it a few years now and still going strong, only have the 8kg which takes a double bedding set easily.

Alfiemoon1 · 05/05/2022 08:57

Samsung eco bubble

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 05/05/2022 08:59

Miele, just avoid any with the Twindos system.

PinkWisteria · 05/05/2022 14:49

We have a Whirlpool 12kg washer and have found it great. Bought it to cope with frequent bedding washes for an elderly relative. Fits loads but has a sensor so fine for smaller washes too.

crossstitchingnana · 05/05/2022 17:18

Samsung Ecobubble. We have the one you can hook up to an App, tells you when it's done. Cost about £500. Believe they do a bigger one, 12kg perhaps?

Fizzbo · 05/05/2022 17:23

Another vote for the Samsung Eco Bubble. We love ours!
