Washing machine

Noglassjustthebottleandastraw · 05/05/2022 03:41

So my washing machine packed up for good tonight. Can anyone please recommend a great washing machine that takes large loads, is quick and kind the environment. Budget £1k and yes posting here for traffic.

Am I being so unreasonable for wanting a washing machine that takes a large load of washing?

Yes you are being unreasonable this is nothing but a myth.

We can see this thread is quite old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best washing machine page with plenty of great options tried and tested by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

I have this one ao.com/product/ww10t554daw-samsung-series-5-addwash-washing-machine-white-83384-1.aspx and I am very much in love with it!!

It's utterly cavernous, washes brilliantly, the app lets you see how much power it's using, the eco soak works a treat and the add wash door is brilliant for adding that sock you find on the floor just after you've put the wash on!

Everyone I know with an ecobubble machine raves about it, I feel there should be an eco bubble lovers support group😂

I had a Siemens machine before and I thought that was good but the Samsung is even better and cheaper.

Merryoldgoat · 05/05/2022 17:31

I have a 9kg Beko and it’s fab. Was only about £400 too.

highly recommend AO.com

I went for LG 10.5kg this time. As with insane amount of washing I managed to break a bosch and a AEG.

Motnight · 05/05/2022 17:38

Not Bosch. Had 4 in 5 years (only bought one, the rest have been free replacements). Our latest 1 at less than 2 years old has just given up the ghost. Bosch engineers insist it can be fixed but so far after 3 visits have simply made it worse. Have given up and just ordered a Samsung Eco bubble from AO so very pleased to see good reviews here.

How are you getting on with that?

Our Siemens recently died after over 4 years of 20+ (often nasty) loads per week and we considered an LG but the massive door would have blocked a cupboard door (we ripped out a useless and far too small integrated washer, so space is limited) so we ended up going for the current Bosch equivalent of the Siemens we had. If we get chance to re-do the kitchen before we kill this one, we were planning on selling it on and getting a bigger machine.

I’ve got a Miele 9kg w1 excellence. It’s pretty awful. First one was bought about a year ago. It was replaced by Miele a few months later but the replacement isn’t much better. Wash performance is a bit naff, loads regularly have to be respun because the laundry comes out dripping wet and the spin is extremely loud.

Miele tried to insist the noise was caused by a wooden floor; concrete floor with quarry tiles in my utility room, so not that. I’ve lost count of the call-outs I’ve had with it. It’s a shame as my first Miele washing machine lasted well over a decade and not once needed to be looked at. I regret getting rid of it but it just wasn’t big enough for us.

I’m looking at Samsung, LG and ebac now.

Soffit · 05/05/2022 18:09

I have had a few Bosch machines consecutively. The brand (and it's advertising ) has gone downmarket to improve sales, I would say. Next time, I think I will try a Miele

Derrymum123 · 05/05/2022 18:10

Samsung eco bubble is very good

Maytodecember · 05/05/2022 18:47

Samsung Adwash. I was forever finding I’d dropped a sock on the floor, left a pair of pjs behind.

Noglassjustthebottleandastraw · 05/05/2022 19:16

Thanks everyone for all your great recommendations. Going to have a cup of tea and look into them all.

Had our old Bosch for 16 child-raising years (May it rest in peace) . At the suggestion of Bosch repairman, bought basic model Miele, is fab, big drum, washes really well, using small amount of water and electricity. Long washes though.

Samsung addwash 9kg is great, washes really well with loads of cycles to choose from . Really easy to use.

munchbunch12 · 05/05/2022 21:20

Sorry to piggy back on someone else's thread... but does anyone have any recommendations for washing machines that can do a 40C load in about an hour? I liked the look of the Samsung Eco Bubble but the cycles seem very long compared to the old machine I use at the moment. Thanks

EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter · 06/05/2022 06:23

Mine does a 40 degree wash in 1:16

  • but it’s variable because you choose the number of cycles etc.
there’s a 15 minute wash, but for my sins I’ve gone over to the longer eco washes.

purplesequins · 06/05/2022 06:35

with that budget I would go for miele.

coffeewithmilk · 05/05/2022 06:45

Samsung eco bubble.. by far the best purchase for my house.. along with the Samsung dryer.
10 year warranty comes with it so obviously if anything goes wrong you can get a new machine or replacement

The 10 year warranty is ONLY for one part, not the whole thing!

Hello, and thanks for your reply, is that with the 10kg Samsung Eco Bubble? That sounds great if it is.

EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter · 06/05/2022 07:21

Yes. I didn’t get the lost-sock door because I figured it was just one more thing to break but I can see the appeal.

Ohnonevermind · 06/05/2022 07:45

With my miele I can open the door during most of the wash to add stuff as it’s really water efficient

Bordesleyhills · 06/05/2022 07:46

Bosch or zanussi

coffeewithmilk · 06/05/2022 18:52

@BoredYummyMummy WHHAAAAAT? oh my god I thought you'd get a full new machine if it was to break
What part does it cover?
That just shows I don't read the manuals that come with anything 😂

Still think it's a fantastic machine though

coffeewithmilk · 06/05/2022 18:53

@munchbunch12 40 degree cycle in the Samsung eco bubble is 1 hour 5 mins.
That's for a 'daily wash'

You can do quick was at any temp anywhere from 20-50mins.
I usually do this for small stuff like my washing cloths, mop head etc at a 60 degree for 20mins.

I've just spent weeks researching new washing machines as mine finally died, and unfortunately to meet modern energy efficiency standards, all machines now have much longer cycles - it's because more time is spent soaking the clothes, instead of spinning (which takes more energy to do). So the cycles are very long but quite inactive as the washing is just sat in water. Most good machines will have a quick wash option, but be warned that those are not intended for day to day use, or for heavy loads - the machines are designed not to spin as much, but to be stationary more, so you won't get as much use/longevity out of them if you constantly use the shot cycles, and they won't clean clothes as well either.

For what it's worth, I went for a Bosch, Serie 6, and am really impressed, especially with their silent drive, but a 'proper' wash takes several hours. It's the price we have to pay to save the planet, apparently?!? And don't even get me started on heat pump tumble dryers!!

Our eBac is great - massive and very happy with the 7 year warranty. Great to buy something British-made too.
