Will I ever lie in again?!?!

My 1 year old is a fan of a 6am wake up. Every single day. Which is fine when we have to be out at work/childcare. But it's the weekend, and I just want to go back to sleep.

The dream is over forever, isn't it? When will I ever lie in again? 😩

Never. DS(5) has to be trailed out of bed on a school morning buy was wide awake with the birds at 5.30am today. Fucksake.

Traumdeuter · 30/04/2022 06:39

2035, maybe. Unless you have more children.

I would recommend a solo weekend away…

startfresh · 30/04/2022 06:42

I'm with you in solidarity. Currently struggling to get up with a very wide awake 1 year old.

Hedonism · 30/04/2022 06:44

No, never.

By the time your child is old enough to fend for themselves in the morning, and/or lie in themselves, your body clock will be screwed.

Ask me why I am on Mumsnet at 6.45am on a Saturday morning whilst the rest of my family are fast asleep 🙄

Sofielou · 30/04/2022 06:45

Why do they get up so goddam early?! Why oh why?! 😴😴

Never

My twins are up on the dot at 530 every day 😂

Sofielou · 30/04/2022 06:46

Counting down to morning nap at 9am ....... 😬

AlohaMolly · 30/04/2022 06:48

No. My son is nearly six and has slept really well for at least two years now and regularly sleeps in until 8/8.30 or later if allowed…and yet I was awake at 6.15 and putting the washing out 😭

This. <sobs>

AllGone · 30/04/2022 06:50

DC 6 and 8 are beginning to sleep in a bit later now. By later I mean 7.30am.

My top tip is don't get a dog just as your child or children are starting to sleep a bit better. The dog woke me up at 5.45am this morning and we are just getting home from our morning walk.

Sadly this is completely true. Am also wide awake, DS likely to be asleep for hours yet.

Do you have a DP/ DH?

My 7yo is still up between 6 and 7 every day, but DH and I get a lie in each at the weekend. We always have the same day, so that we know that on our day we can ignore everything and carry on sleeping.

Avacadoandtoast · 30/04/2022 06:54

Kids wake up, dog starts barking - whole house is wide awake by 6.30. Apart from my husband who was out last night and took himself to the spare room when he got home - i don’t know if I should be happy he didn’t wake me up when he got home, or mad that he’s not having to deal with everything this morning!

FrecklesMalone · 30/04/2022 06:56

I was out last night until 1am. Wide awake now. All my teenage kids will be snoring until midday. The answer is never 😭

Dolphinnoises · 30/04/2022 06:56

Are you a single parent? By the time the kids were one, DH and I were doing a morning each at weekends so the other could lie in…

I do but he's at work having just done a night shift. He'll be home soon and he'll obviously need to sleep, so I'm solo. 😭

I feel your pain, and I strongly recommend the GroClock (toddler alarm clock which sets a certain time to bring up a picture of a sunshine)...I now get to lie in til a luxurious 7am 😅

incrediblehux · 30/04/2022 06:59

Small kids? 6am is a lie in.
Sorry OP. It won't be forever.

ChiselandBits · 30/04/2022 07:00

Nope. DS is 12 and still wakes early. I do let him go down and he leaves me in peace but once I hear his door go that's it really. Oh and he totally ignored the fro clock

Oh no! Does he have a schedule where he could get up with you DC one morning, to give you chance to wake up gradually, even if you can't have a proper lie in? I found even that helped a bit.

I agree with the Gro Clock suggestion - it won't be quick, but it does help

PinkPingu · 30/04/2022 07:03

It won't last forever (although it feels like it lol), my daughter when at that age used to wake around 4am then around 2 I had her sister - and when she used to wake around 4am by time she would take a nap her sister was waking exhausted wasn't the word lol

Now they are 14 and nearly 12 and for the past few years have begun liking sleep and on the odd occasion they still wake I can now just send them downstairs while I stay in bed a whkle longer lol

Peppapig7262662 · 30/04/2022 07:05

I feel your pain OP.

However DD has a nice 2 hour nap around 10-12 and I usually join her, it's my favourite time of day!

Is that an option?

RewildingAmbridge · 30/04/2022 07:07

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but my 3.5 year old is no longer an early riser, and is still asleep, as is DH, but something has switched in my internal clock having had to get up early for so long and now I rarely sleep past 7 unless I'm ill. DH also got up early when DS did but still seems to be able to sleep like he's dead until whatever time DS does get up

girlmom21 · 30/04/2022 07:08

My 2yo (nearly 3) slept in until 8:20 yesterday!

Unfortunately the baby woke at half 5 Grin
