Will I ever lie in again?!?!

My 1 year old is a fan of a 6am wake up. Every single day. Which is fine when we have to be out at work/childcare. But it's the weekend, and I just want to go back to sleep.

The dream is over forever, isn't it? When will I ever lie in again? 😩

Yes, but it will be the day when you booked a shopping delivery for 7 in the morning so have to get up anyway.

Pootle40 · 30/04/2022 07:56

It takes a few years but does happen. I just woke up and last weekend slept until 830am. That's been the case since youngest was 3 or 4.

Perfect28 · 30/04/2022 07:58

Can't you take turns with your partner? Tbh I have a 1 year old and if I got sleep in the night I would happily get up at 6

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 30/04/2022 07:58

Wait until the menopause. Your brain will wake you up at 5am everyday and sweat you out of bed.

TokyoSushi · 30/04/2022 08:00

You will, but not yet! I did years of starting the day being downstairs before CBeebies, absolutely soul destroying! But now, the DC are 9 & 11, one is still asleep, one is on his Xbox, and I am faffing about on MN in bed, the good times will come again!

diamondpony80 · 30/04/2022 08:01

DD used to be like that until she went to school. Now she's 7 and I have to drag her out of bed at 7.30 am. On a weekend she sleeps until about 8 or 8.30. Not a huge sleep in, but not as bad as 6 am.

GoodSoup · 30/04/2022 08:02

Who knows. My 7 year old is still a fan of 5.30am waking.

vdbfamily · 30/04/2022 08:03

When they are tweens they will sleep longer and when they are teenagers you will need a rocket to get them up before lunch time on a weekend!!

BogRollBOGOF · 30/04/2022 08:03

My 11 & 9yo sleep in, but I wake at 7:15 every day. Most weekends I make the most of it by heading off to parkrun. I volunteer at the juniors so normally rouse the DCs and lug them out with me, but I've been known to go without them often enough.

When the DCs were young, I'd go to the leisure centre and do a 9am class.

WalkerWalking · 30/04/2022 08:05

I didn't get out of bed til 7.30 this morning! All my kids got themselves up, wiped their own bums, poured their own cheerios museli, and turned on their kindles, which they had charged themselves overnight!! It's taken me 10 years to get to this point 🤦‍♀️😴😴😴

Ps. But the youngest child is only 4! I'm just an idiot with more children than sense 🙄

Ilikeviognier · 30/04/2022 08:05

Mine are 5 and 7- 7.30 is about average now - it could be worse. The downside is that the 5 year old has brought home the children’s Bible from school so i was woken up to a hundred questions about the crucifixion……

Noglassjustthebottleandastraw · 30/04/2022 08:07

Have you tried black out blinds op?

SheWentWest · 30/04/2022 08:09

Once you start peri menopause you will be awake at 6am anyway. I still dream about the lie ins I had as a teenager

Donkeyinamanger · 30/04/2022 08:09

Sorry OP, you are doomed. If you are anything like me, by the time your DC is old enough to let you sleep in, you will have been trained out of the ability to do it. Mine is 14 now, and I am still awake by 7.30 every morning.

Vanillaradio · 30/04/2022 08:13

You will -it just feels endless when you have a toddler- but it gets better (until the dc decide they need to do activities at a stupid time in the mornings at weekends- which is why I'm up now.!) Ds is 8 and will sleep till about 9 if left and this has been the case since he was 5/6.

PlntLady · 30/04/2022 08:14

Maybe. I know my 2 year old niece (almost 3) will stay in bed until 9:30 these days if they leave her. 🙂

Looneytune253 · 30/04/2022 08:16

Well my kids lie in now at 11 and 17 but I've lost this ability at almost 40 haha

Sorry I think it's never.
After years of early wake ups I can't sleep past 6:30 am.
My teens then snooze the morning away.😭

Doubleraspberry · 30/04/2022 08:40

Depends what you mean by lie in. I can’t sleep past about 9am at the latest now, which would have been an early weekend wake up in the old days. But I view waking. naturally rather than being woken by the alarm as a lie in! On non-work days I regularly sleep till past 8am as none of my lot are very early risers, or occupy themselves. I’d say that’s been the case since my youngest was 2 or 3. So the misery was very short-lived for me, and I’d actually slightly envious of all these productive posters up and about early getting stuff done!

TeddyisMydog · 30/04/2022 09:01

I agree with those saying never. My eldest is 8 in June, he wakes up at 4.15 😭
I do have other children who are up at that time anyway and a young baby but it's definitely a killer

Why?! What time does he go to bed?

YetAnotherWalk · 30/04/2022 09:07

After 15 years of training I wake up first now and I don't think I will ever have a lie in again sorry

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 30/04/2022 09:12

In about 3 years

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 30/04/2022 09:13

Myself and DH used to share get ups at the weekends though.

WeAllHaveWings · 30/04/2022 09:16

Used to love a lazy lie in but ds, then dog, then getting older and needing to get up for a pee in the mornings put paid to them years ago.
