Will I ever lie in again?!?!

My 1 year old is a fan of a 6am wake up. Every single day. Which is fine when we have to be out at work/childcare. But it's the weekend, and I just want to go back to sleep.

The dream is over forever, isn't it? When will I ever lie in again? 😩

No because even once your children eventually start to sleep in you body clock will just wake at that time. 7am is a lie in for me, I usually wake between 4-6.

forlornlorna1 · 30/04/2022 07:11

I've been a mom for over 30 years now. I remember those days where I'd dream of a nice long lie in. I've bought up a big family and my youngest is a teen now. The time finally came where I can sleep till I want of a weekend. But now my body clock naturally wakes up at 6am lol!!!!!

Hedonism · 30/04/2022 06:44

No, never.

By the time your child is old enough to fend for themselves in the morning, and/or lie in themselves, your body clock will be screwed.

Ask me why I am on Mumsnet at 6.45am on a Saturday morning whilst the rest of my family are fast asleep 🙄

This.

Even when you finally get a childfree night away… wake up at the larks 🙄

Wnikat · 30/04/2022 07:16

6am is good. You will learn to be grateful for anything after 5.30.

SpringRainbow · 30/04/2022 07:18

Sorry but I agree with the others. My body clock is completely screwed.

I’m not sure my body knows how to sleep past 6am anymore.

Luculentus · 30/04/2022 07:20

You'll get your revenge when he's 15 and you have to use brute force to get him out of bed.

Snog · 30/04/2022 07:21

Teenagers don't get up early OP

mynameiscalypso · 30/04/2022 07:24

If it's any consolation, I sometimes have to force my 2.5 year old out of bed during the week so I can take him to nursery on time. Obviously at the weekend, he wakes early of his own accord...

Mochatatts · 30/04/2022 07:28

My 9 and 12 year old had started sleeping til 10am on weekends. I was usually up around 9am. Then we decided to have a baby. I regularly see 5.30am and 6am. So now in bed before 10pm every night.

GiveMeNovocain · 30/04/2022 07:28

DH is having a lovely sleep beside me, dd is 10 and also fast asleep, even the dog is in her bed snoozing and won't bother to get up if I head down. I'm wide awake because my internal alarm clock thinks I still have a toddler. It can feck off. But technically I'm still in bed so at least it's kind of a lie in!

redfairy · 30/04/2022 07:29

I'm 55 and enjoy long lie ins on the weekends. I reared 3 children to adulthood and this is my reward. You'll get yours too...eventually. In all seriousness, it doesn't last forever and you may feel like crying out for sleep but just use every opportunity to catch up and rest yourself.

RowanAlong · 30/04/2022 07:30

Sorry to report but I think 6am is pretty good for a one-year old. Anything beginning with a six is ok!

Coffeekam · 30/04/2022 07:31

No never unfortunately. Even with a 10 year old we are up early on a weekend for his football match.

Sweetmotherofallthatisholyabov · 30/04/2022 07:34

@Hedonism you have ruined my life. I keep looking at my 6 and 3 year old and thinking I'd 100% leave you guys up alone.... except for the 18month old. I basically have nothing to look forward to. Maybe the fact dh and I share lie ins now will countereffect that?

Indoctro · 30/04/2022 07:35

7 and 5 year old and if they stay in bed till 6.30am that's a lie in.

So nope forget it

Ohdoleavemealone · 30/04/2022 07:40

My kids just got to the age where they could be trusted to come down stairs and watch TV for an hour before we get up. And then we got a kitten! They can't be trusted not to wind her up and so we are back to alternating who gets up at 6 in the morning.

Fedupsotired · 30/04/2022 07:42

No never as when they start sleeping in you'll still wake up early and become one of those old people 🙄🤣

Fedupsotired · 30/04/2022 07:43

But that does mean that I can lay in bed and read for ages which I love!

AntarcticTern · 30/04/2022 07:45

Sorry OP, I'm another one who was up at 6am today even though my teen DC were fast asleep! I used to be so good at sleeping late but after years of being woken up early I just can't do it any more!

ItIsSuchAMess · 30/04/2022 07:45

I had my first meal out since baby was born (2 years ago nearly) last night. All I could think, drunk on the last train home, was this is going to hurt tomorrow. Sure enough, have been woken by screaming & whinging at 6.30am. I'm never going out again!

XmasElf10 · 30/04/2022 07:48

Nope, mine is 11 now so no longer gets me up but me and the dog are so used to it that 7am and the eyelids pop open. It does mean I don’t waste my weekend sleeping but I’d really love a lie in now and then!

ScruffGin · 30/04/2022 07:50

@ItIsSuchAMess I'm officially broken, I was going out last night to a lovely tasting menu with matching wine. Decided last minute to drive as I couldn't cope with the 4 year old and a hangover this morning... 😂my 30 year old self would be disappointed in me!

MadamOracle · 30/04/2022 07:53

Unlikely. Sorry. Mine are late primary age and they were awake before 7.00 today. However, they’re happing playing Minecraft and eating Rice Krispies while I’m MN in bed so I’m not actively parenting right now.

I will have to get up shortly to ferry them to their Saturday morning sports clubs though.

BlueBeeSpots · 30/04/2022 07:54

I try to keep my one year old up later some times to see whether it’ll mean she’ll stay asleep later in the morning. Doesn’t work 😂

EnglishGirlApproximately · 30/04/2022 07:54

What @Hedonism said 🙄 DS is ten and very occasionally sleeps until after 7 but I'm always awake by 6.30. Combination of body clock having adjusted to years of early starts and being at an age where I can't go the whole night without several toilet trips!
