Grounds for divorce? Tell me this is not normal...

OH never opens food packaging properly - he rips it to shreds. Stabs butter foil in the middle, the same with yogurt or cream. This morning, bag of catfood - resealable bag - ripped through the side... i want to scream.

DH opens letters by tearing a tiny bit in the middle of the top edge, then rips them open down the middle.

Why oh why???

I should probably buy him a paper knife but I fear his savage letter opening ways would cause me to do him a mischief with said knife.

muddyford · 29/04/2022 17:00

I see a PP has mentioned not closing drawers properly(sorry don't know how to quote). My DH never closes a drawer or cupboard fully, can't wipe a worktop thoroughly and leaves greasy fingermarks all over the fridge door and the chrome door handles to the kitchen and dining room. Some days, after following his spoor with a damp cloth, I feel like chopping his hands off.

Everydaydayisaschoolday · 29/04/2022 17:01

crowsfeet57 · 29/04/2022 12:48

OMG! My dh is exactly the same. The worst thing is wet wipes of any description, he rips the packet open, uses one and the rest all dry up and have to be thrown away. I can't tell you how many times we argues about this when the children were in nappies!

Don't bin the dry ones. Just wet them and use as normal.

Brenna24 · 29/04/2022 17:16

It definitely should be grounds for a divorce if not justification for murder. Mine rips everything to shreds at odd angles, opens 3 or everything if he can find it, doesn't replace the clips on the bags in the freezer (which he has has ripped open from the side or the bottom), tears off lumps of bread instead of cutting it and then leaves it out the bag so that I come along to find jaggy landscapes instead of a slice of bread, doesn't wipe worksurfaces and is pathologically opposed to putting lids back on things. Everything in our house is now decanted into old coffee jars for the sake of our marriage and his continued survival. He just found me reading this thread and actually crying with laughter. When I explained why he laughed too. He is glad that he isn't the only one permanently in trouble.

DragonOverTheMoon · 29/04/2022 17:22

No wonder my husband left me 🤣 all the pent up rage from my racoon ways!

LoveSpringDaffs · 29/04/2022 17:45

orangeisthenewpuce · 29/04/2022 12:56

I do those things. I'm very sorry.

But, why???

UndertheCedartree · 29/04/2022 17:46

SisyphusDad · 29/04/2022 14:08

@Monkey2001

Sorry, it's not a man thing. I always open packaging carefully (scissors, knife, whatever is the best tool) and get very cross with my DSs when if they just hack them open.

I'm also obsessive about opening cardboard packaging. It needs to be done carefully without tearing in line with the flaps so that I can fold in neatly for recycling. Packaging where the flaps are glued too firmly (pizzas are a prime culprit) give me the rage!

The one exception is those wretched wet-wipe packets which tear open at the least provocation. So I just take them out, put them into a clip-top box and hurl the packaging into the bin with a 'servers you right!'

Your wet wipe saga made me laugh 😂

Eightiesfan · 29/04/2022 17:51

Jesus wept, now I’m going to have to LTB and disown my two DC, as they are all incapable of opening anything without tearing it apart like a bunch of wolverines.

CaptSkippy · 29/04/2022 17:55

He is wasteful. How much money do you spend extra per month as a household just replacing products that were not completely used up due to the fact that he destroys the packaging?

2020nymph · 29/04/2022 18:01

Shoxfordian · 29/04/2022 12:33

Sad to admit I’m also a psychopath raccoon ☹️

This sentence genuinely made me laugh. Thank you!

Twocrabs20 · 30/04/2022 17:43

Absolute grounds to LTB. As is, emptying the rubbish bin and not putting a replacement bag in, using the last of any particular pantry or fridge item and not replacing it at the next food shop. Not putting opened packets of biscuits into air tight containers so they don’t get stale.

SilverQuill · 30/04/2022 17:45

If people genuinely think this kind of trivia worth arguing about, no wonder the divorce rate so high

Lndnmummy · 30/04/2022 17:51

I do some of this. I don't stab butter but I often miss the resealable part of a packet, like cheese or wipes. I often look at the savaged package thinking "why did I do that AGAIN" with bewilderment. I will do better, don't want to be a psycopath😖

Elegantlyangry · 30/04/2022 18:05

This is what I’d call a ‘ First world problem ‘ - if this is the worst your other half does ie just being like most normal men ( !) , you’re bloody lucky !

BossyFlossie76 · 30/04/2022 18:19

My Husband is EXACTLY the same. It’s maddening. Also can’t hold a piece of paper without totally crumpling it up (even if it’s previous…think birth certificates).

MrsLargeEmbodied · 30/04/2022 18:19

my dh doesnt even use a plate,
dirty so and so
and nor does he always use a chopping board

divorce

Mumof3girlygirls · 30/04/2022 18:22

100% Divorce!!!

CatsArePeople · 30/04/2022 18:23

I'll tell you what he DOES do, though. Takes a bite out of things instead of cutting off a slice. So I go into the fridge and the lovely slab of Comté cheese I bought has fucking tooth marks in it and a bit mouth-shaped bite out of it. I've married a barbarian.

Bloody hell! How come you haven't murdered him yet?

We like fancy sourdough from the bakery, but DH cannot bear to have a smallish piece near the tapering ends. He cuts it right down the middle so he can have a big slice of bread. Also pretends not to know where anything in the kitchen is kept (that's a different issue but I needed to say it).

JFC. Could you not have put a trigger warning on that post

If I found this at home I’d think an animal had somehow managed to get in. Are you sure it’s not a fox that did this? 😂

Shazziep · 30/04/2022 18:54

Surely he had the same behaviour before you married him.

thistimelastweek · 30/04/2022 18:55

My bugbear is my husband's inability to return things to the way he found them.
If he opens a door, he leaves it open . Even if I'm left by an open door to the freezing outside.
If he opens a tube of toothpaste, he leaves it uncapped to get hard and knobbly.
If he opens a drawer....

Totally ground for divorce. If I were him I would file without delay and find someone less nuts
