OH never opens food packaging properly - he rips it to shreds. Stabs butter foil in the middle, the same with yogurt or cream. This morning, bag of catfood - resealable bag - ripped through the side... i want to scream.

My whole family does this and I have considered leaving them all, and have told them! It is a valid reason.

BestDove · 29/04/2022 12:54

This would piss me off big time!! No wonder you're exasperated

diddl · 29/04/2022 12:54

Stabs butter/yoghurt/cream?

What does that achieve?

With the yoghurt & cream pots-does he just then make the hole big enough to stick the spoon in/pour out?

Sounds much harder work that taking the lid off with the tab!

orangeisthenewpuce · 29/04/2022 12:56

I do those things. I'm very sorry.

Clearly, you've married a raccoon....

Or a seagull.
Would drive me mad Op. You have my sympathy

mommybear1 · 29/04/2022 12:59

Do you have a patio OP? Lovely weather for building one and laying slabs 😉😁

AmyDudley · 29/04/2022 13:00

My Mother was like this - she saw all food packaging as the enemy, to be crept up on and bayonetted. A packet of biscuits assaulted to the point of looking like a crime scene was considered normal when I was growing up. She was the same with food - I can remember her putting a big dish of lasagne down on the table stabbing a knife right into the middle of it and shouting
'help yourselves before it dies gets cold'

Sparkletastic · 29/04/2022 13:03

I don't understand about the butter / yoghurt / cream? Like a foil wrapped block of butter? Not through plastic lids surely?!

CatsArePeople · 29/04/2022 13:04

That would take years of therapy to get over!

By any chance does he take care when the contents relate to work or a hobby and are delicate? Let's hope he never asks you to fetch and open computer components for example.

BusterGonad · 29/04/2022 13:09

This would drive me crackers, to all the people who open packaging like this, why?? Is it because it's quicker?

Maflingo · 29/04/2022 13:10

Oh god just reading this thread has given me the rage! I may have to hide it!!!

my DS either rips open (eg crisp) packets so they fly everywhere, or WORSE… opens the top only partway, then rams his hand in, scrunching up the bag, and then is constantly rustling it for every individual crisp Angry

>> stomps off to scream into a cushion!

We like fancy sourdough from the bakery, but DH cannot bear to have a smallish piece near the tapering ends. He cuts it right down the middle so he can have a big slice of bread. Also pretends not to know where anything in the kitchen is kept (that's a different issue but I needed to say it).

My DH (thug) will also cut the sour dough loaf through the middle as he won't eat the smaller end bits...i rage inside every time i see him do it!

And I'm convinced that when he rips open cereal boxes or a new coffee pod box, he thinks he's in a 'hard man' competition and believes he's ripping a telephone/yellow pages book (remember them?!!) in half! He's such an animal. 🙄

dudsville · 29/04/2022 13:13

This really bugs me. My OH does this too. Some packaging splits if it's weakened in this way. Bags of rice have had to be decanted in our house!

ancientgran · 29/04/2022 13:15

I have teenage GS living with me. I am trying to train him out of this plus not throwing wet towels on the floor. I'm determined to crack this before he goes to uni but it might finish me off as it is hard going.

orangeisthenewpuce · 29/04/2022 12:56

I do those things. I'm very sorry.

But WHY? It's such weird behaviour.

BotterMon · 29/04/2022 13:19

He does it with Percy Pigs - says it's the only way to open them and then they all fall out. No you barsteward - you do it so you can eat them all before I get home from work.

UndertheCedartree · 29/04/2022 13:21

That kind of thing drives me up the wall! As does my DS starting on the new milk before finish the old one! Can I divorce my child???

StoppinBy · 29/04/2022 13:22

My hubby opens frozen vegies by putting a hole in the side, near the corner but on the side of the bag.

When you tip the bag up stuff collects in the pocket that this makes at the top of the bag so that when you tip it the right way up again stuff falls out on the bench/floor.

Why not open it properly by either snipping a part of the top off or snipping the corner off!!

Pisses me off no end! Lol.

BinBandit · 29/04/2022 13:22

My younger son (an adult) has dyspraxia and his fine motor skills were measured as being on about the 5th percentile - and even he isn't as bad as that.

I cannot look at him using scissors or chopping stuff with a knife though.

Is your DH actually ok OP?

P.s. I also came on to mention racoons (see user name... Grin)

messybutfun · 29/04/2022 13:23

I cannot resist a fresh sourdough crusty end. So much so that I have to have them from all sides at once. It just never tastes the same the next day and it leaves the bread in a nice square shape. I hope my DH isn’t thinking of divorcing me!

Justlovedogs · 29/04/2022 13:24

After seeing Mr Justlovesdogs open a box of tea bags by kicking it round the kitchen floor in frustration, I just try to make sure I get there first. I manage 99% of the time... Confused

the80sweregreat · 29/04/2022 13:25

I'm going to stick up for the package tearers of the world because some packages and ' peel here ' labels and what not on some goods and food items seem to need industrial sized tools to get them open , not just normal kitchen scissors. 'Peel here' , only on a good day.
I bought a lip balm and it was almost impossible to get out of its wrapping and away from the plastic bit and the cardboard it was on .
You need precision to open the resealable bags of things , if your in a hurry it can be hard going to get it just right so it zips up again.
It can all be daunting if your not in the right frame of mind for it all

the80sweregreat · 29/04/2022 13:27

I can open the actual tea bag boxes , but if they have to be separated from each other for just one cup ( not in a pot) I have been known to get a bit upset when I end up with a lot of loose tea everywhere..

IncompleteSenten · 29/04/2022 13:29

Every time he does it, roll up a newspaper and whack him on the nose with it while firmly saying NO
