OH never opens food packaging properly - he rips it to shreds. Stabs butter foil in the middle, the same with yogurt or cream. This morning, bag of catfood - resealable bag - ripped through the side... i want to scream.

Is he an Aries ?

Xenia · 29/04/2022 13:58

I find these things very hard to open usually because I have 2 seconds to do it in and they often rip in the wrong place. Even just yestesrday a new rock salt cardboard packet said open here and even my student son could not get it to open there so I had to rip it and now it will pour all over every time used I expect but I had no choice.

bigbluebus · 29/04/2022 13:59

I'm afraid to say my adult DS is like this. Certainly wasn't how he was taught to do things! I have lost count of the number of packets I've had to put into a separate plastic bag to prevent pasta/rice/lentils etc from pouring out all over the cupboards. He even opens the envelopes on his post unlike anyone I've ever seen!

How about using scissors?

the80sweregreat · 29/04/2022 14:07

I'm an Aries.. Maybe this is why I can't open things very well and flummoxed by cling film boxes and even armed with kitchen scissors it can still be difficult ( especially if the scissors are not that sharp)
I end up decanting most packets.

SisyphusDad · 29/04/2022 14:08

@Monkey2001

Sorry, it's not a man thing. I always open packaging carefully (scissors, knife, whatever is the best tool) and get very cross with my DSs when if they just hack them open.

I'm also obsessive about opening cardboard packaging. It needs to be done carefully without tearing in line with the flaps so that I can fold in neatly for recycling. Packaging where the flaps are glued too firmly (pizzas are a prime culprit) give me the rage!

The one exception is those wretched wet-wipe packets which tear open at the least provocation. So I just take them out, put them into a clip-top box and hurl the packaging into the bin with a 'servers you right!'

Clearly, you've married a raccoon....

Stabs butter foil in the middle,

I'm sorry but this man is a sociopath

EmptyBites · 29/04/2022 14:14

You have clearly married your cat.

EsmesRedPetticoat · 29/04/2022 14:17

My husband puts a fresh block of butter in the butter dish without washing the dish it first so it’s on top of the butter scrapings from the last one. I have to race to get to the butter dish before he does. Infuriating!

Oh dear this is me. I think if DH ever divorces me it will be for this reason Grin

Me too! OH used to get very stroppy with me,

amusedbush · 29/04/2022 14:24

My dad does this and it drives my mum up the wall. He is the most quiet, placid man you'll ever meet so we joke that ripping packages beyond saving is "thug" behaviour.

DH doesn't do that but he has a ridiculous habit of placing the lid back on things without screwing it on. So laundry detergent, jars of jam, tubs of protein powder, bottles of bubble bath... whatever it is, he puts it back with the lid placed on top. Then I'd go to grab it by the lid and spill it everywhere.

I didn't even realise that I picked everything up by the lid until we moved in together but I quickly learned to stop!

Sorry, I don't mean all men, I just know several men who do it. My father in law was dreadful, so maybe he passed it on. Many men are not like that, sorry to tarnish you all with a sweeping statement!

StoppinBy · 29/04/2022 13:22

My hubby opens frozen vegies by putting a hole in the side, near the corner but on the side of the bag.

When you tip the bag up stuff collects in the pocket that this makes at the top of the bag so that when you tip it the right way up again stuff falls out on the bench/floor.

Why not open it properly by either snipping a part of the top off or snipping the corner off!!

Pisses me off no end! Lol.

@StoppinBy I left a scissors on top of the freezer for this exact reason, and said to DH ' when you open the veg please cut it' he still rips a random hole because he supposedly can't find the scissors.

lol, same here, scissors in utensil drawer and plenty of knives that will do the trick but he would rather poke a big hole with his fingers GRRR!

Is he an Aries ?

My ex was an Aries and one thing I didn´t complain about him was how he opened packets. My Capricorn DP, on the other hand... Angry
I´ll let him know it´s a dumpable offense if he keeps doing it.

Anonymum263 · 29/04/2022 14:33

@messybutfun 😮

Stomacharmeleon · 29/04/2022 14:49

@FlibbertyGibbitt I am an Aries and am terrible for doing this but I blame my mother.
I open bread in the middle..
But she used to open eight bags of crisps so she couldn't be accused of eating a whole one. None of us took a packet of anything in our lunchboxes which hadn't been opened or had a bite out of it.
I don't do that but do have rather odd food habits.

Changeymcgee · 29/04/2022 14:51

If he opens chewing Gum or Biscuits without using the pull tab this can actually be used in your defence if you bury him under the patio.

BigRedDuck · 29/04/2022 14:54

mommybear1 · 29/04/2022 12:59

Do you have a patio OP? Lovely weather for building one and laying slabs 😉😁

Just make sure you open the postcrete nicely at the top of the bag OP. 😀

WaspRelatedEmergency · 29/04/2022 14:55

Not my DH but my friend once ripped her way into a box. Litterally punched, tore and gnawed a hand size hole in the middle of the box to pull the stuff out. We've been friends for years but I knew better than to suggest scissors might have been easier. 😬

GatoradeMeBitch · 29/04/2022 14:57

Only thing I know is that if you always fix it, he has no incentive to change his habits. Tell him to find the packing tape and tape up the cat food bag before the food goes stale and the cat refuses to eat it.

cakewench · 29/04/2022 15:07
