When will he stop criticising the UK (fair enough you left us (thanks!), but stop with the 'oh the USA is great and UK is crap etc...' It's annoying)

And .... Remember Harry - we are NOT ALL LOADED!!! Where are we supposed to get the money for all this therapy you think we should have? The NHS is at breaking point (have you noticed? What r you doing to help?) And we can't all afford private therapy Harry ... especially not 4 years worth!! 'my therapist spoke to your therapist..' is not a reality for most of us struggling to afford heating.

Out of touch much? Yes

Presumably they do as they brought it up.

mathanxiety · 03/05/2022 15:35

Apparently the disruption of his education still rankles. The unfairness!

mathanxiety · 03/05/2022 15:37

He might not have done brilliantly anyway but that doesn't mean he couldn't have done better.
All the way to the word BUT needs to be sung from the rooftops.

So funny with another thread running about a doctor moving while son is in year 10 and lots and lots of people saying don't move him and even if they are doing the same exam board topics might be done in a different order. I wonder why people think like that?

This is because the exam results of people who are not next in line to the throne actually matter.
Hmm

He's behaving like an utter tool but I feel pity more than anything else he looks so unhappy and stressed. Quitting his RF life/job/duty has obviously been very different to how he thought. I always thought an ex pat life in Africa working with children and animals was what he wanted not this awful failure at celebrity life its like a slo mo car crash.

I think this is what he will be doing in ten years time, alone.

You’re all DM readers. Or other trash papers. But go ahead and forget about the paedophile and the tampon. And the selling of services and titles to dodgy foreigners. Just go ahead and focus on the Prince and his black American wife. And keep telling yourselves that you’re not racist and xenophobic.

Sorry dear, but those events were reported in every news outlet, including the sainted Grauniad. Why is his wife always defined by people like you as black? She is the daughter of a white father and a black mother but only acknowledges one part of her heritage. I wonder why?

It has been well documented that Charles reaction to him when he was born was ''Oh God, it’s a boy, and he’s even got red hair,'' words which Diana never forgot.

"Well documented"?

The only people present at the birth would have been the medical professionals, who obviously are legally obliged to retain confidentiality, and of course Charles and Diana. Since Charles is unlikely to have made such a 'disclosure', the source must be Diana, who had her reasons for portraying Charles in as negative a light as possible.

Your definition of 'well documented' is different from mine.

What if he did? When my second daughter was born I asked them to have another look!

Well it matters on here because people want to belittle him about it.

It annoys me. My kids are mixed race and I hate that the white parent just gets written out of the story.

Their history comes from both sides.

I think it's less about belittling and more about the wearying double standards that apply to the royals.

I wonder how many peasants other applicants got into Cambridge with his grades that year.

Prince Charles to bodyguard 'why didn't you go to university Smithers?' 'Got the same A levels as you, Sir'.

JFC. I’m no fan of MM but people call her black because you better believe that in the US of A, that’s what white people see her as when it’s time to choose. Have you no perspective?? Ever heard of the one drop rule??

But not in London where they used to live. Travel on any bus or tube and the passengers are a mix of lily-white through every shade of brown to black and I don't sit opposite and wonder what percentage of black blood everyone has.

I'm not in America, my kids aren't in America. We don't have trash cans, we don't put our babies in diapers, we don't have a president, we have pounds not dollars and my kids are mixed race not black.

Well it matters on here because people want to belittle him about it.

What people are scoffing at is the insistence that he is a genius in disguise.

Why would anyone with any sort of a grip on reality try to pretend such nonsense?

Honestly, the ignorance around racism and the discourse around racism is astonishing.

Avowing racial blindness is just another way for white people to clap themselves on the back and downplay the black experience of racism. On a personal level too, there's a denial of Meghan Markle's own experience and perception, which is shameful.

The idea being put forward here, that somehow Britain has escaped the taint of ugly American racism, is utterly gobsmacking.

I think it is racist to pretend my children are black and deny 50% of their heritage. Funnily enough when I had genetic screening about a family condition everyone, including the geneticist, accepted that their heritage was 50% from me.

No one has mentioned racial blindness but if you want to bring it up how about the blindness of denying their mixed heritage?

mathanxiety · 04/05/2022 17:29

The ignored white heritage discourse is really distasteful. The assertion of blackness does not disadvantage white people, @ancientgran. People with as little as the infamous 'one drop' of 'black blood' have been historically extremely disadvantaged by that heritage, in a context of institutionalised racism, and many chose to hide it in hopes of avoiding the painful experiences which often accompanied designation as black.

In years past, people were not allowed a choice of racial identification if that identification meant they would mingle freely with white people, marry white people, work alongside white people, etc, but now that identification as one or the other is possible with the expectation that doing so will not result in discrimination, making one particular choice is greeted with anger and disappointment - a response which makes the issue all about the feelings of the white person - and there are hints that there are ulterior motives to identifying as black.

Fwiw, Meghan Markle has written and spoken about her pain on being effectively asked to deny one side or the other of her heritage, while filling out a form in school.

I responded directly to a poster claiming racial blindness.

Huh? This is about Meghan Markle, and she is American. It’s not about you, whoever you are. You’re like an American telling to a Brit which class they are going by British standards.

Also, far more importantly, what mathanxiety says above. I don’t have the energy to deal with ignorance of this level and type any more. Very grateful to those who still bother.

Billandben444 · 05/05/2022 00:51

I responded directly to a poster claiming racial blindness.
And this knee-jerk remark is why we can never have a reasoned conversation on here about race.

mathanxiety · 05/05/2022 02:35

Eager to learn what is 'knee-jerk' about that?

The reason there is rarely a reasoned conversation about race here is that some people are starting to approach the subject miles behind the starting line.

Hence the complete lack of self awareness around white privilege, and the ignorance when it comes to history.

mathanxiety · 05/05/2022 02:38

...and the extreme defensiveness (see the 'Sussex Squad' remark) when the racism and ignorance are pointed out.
