To think life is utterly boring

Please hear me out, my life is actually filed with lots of fun things yet I still find life boring!

I'm not looking for 'life is what you make it' trust me I make an extra effort to do fun extravagant things and keep busy but I still feel...bored.

I'm not suicidal may I add so please don't shift this to the mental health section.

I try to the gym most evenings or watch some good tv but I cannot shake the feeling.

I'm very busy and active person, the busiest I know - but I still feel really, really bored. I'm waiting for the feeling to pass but it's been here couple weeks now.

I'm not really looking for solutions I guess just empathy from others who feel/have felt similar.

I just think life is boring drudgery for most people.

i disagree
Certainly I wouldn’t describe my life as such and not do I think friends or families think the same.

I have ADHD and this resonates with me. I'm also going through a period of "feeling bored" mostly at work & at home.

Brunosaiditlookslikerain · 29/04/2022 10:25

Why don't you look into eg moving abroad or having a career change and do something completely new with your life?

Kite22 · 29/04/2022 17:06

I just think life is boring drudgery for most people.

I would disagree with this as well.

However , you have now shared that you are being treated for depression. That clearly puts a completely different slant on all this and might have been pertinent to put in the OP .

You've recognised that exercise gives you a lift.
Have you tried going to another level and joining a sports team? As well as the exercise, it gives you connectivity with other people. It also gives you challenges and more mental stimulation than pounding a treadmill. I mean you can do both, it doesn't have to be one or the other.

josil · 29/04/2022 19:54

@Kite22 I know but I feel my depression is being treated - I'm on medication for it and for a long time it made me feel better so I doubt it had just suddenly started working and I didn't want to make the thread about depression otherwise it gives me no hope that depression is treatable,

What if I just find life dull? What if it isn't depression?

I found the gym super boring, now I mountain bike which is loads of fun

Exactly that. I snowboarded in the 90s, wake boarded in the 00's, then hit the gym, got bored of that and started mountain biking at 46. Now, aged 52 I compete in local level Enduros. I've met so many fantastic people too. My focus is get better at that sport, until the next thing. I also foster, rehome and specialise in Gerbils for a charity Long story (like WTF!), but it gives me real purpose helping people and animals.

OP I can easily slip into "What's the point", and get depressed, but try something leftfield if you can.

And there was me saying it sounded like burnout not depression!

I think if you are being treated for depression then you should speak to your GP about how you are feeling because that is your first route of investigation and it is important to check that you are OK on that score first.

I don't feel that life is boring drudgery for 'most' people. Certainly it is for some people, but not most people, surely.

Your depression may have changed though, you should get this checked really by speaking to your GP.
