How often do you have your windows cleaned?

My window cleaner comes roughly once a month (weather dependant) and it’s not that expensive, but with cost of living etc, I feel like it’s something I could do with not paying for every four weeks. If you have a window cleaner, how often do they come? AIBU to think windows don’t need to be cleaned so frequently?

Window cleaner cleans the outsides of windows once a month. I do the insides 3 or 4 times a year.

FabFitFifties · 22/04/2022 17:42

Every 4 weeks £7

Horst · 22/04/2022 17:42

Never paid someone to clean our windows. Dh does have a huge extending pole with window attachments for cleaning them so he does it when he feels like maybe once or twice a year.

Twice a month at £6.50 a time. Hate dirty windows.
I like clean shiny surfaces like mirrors, glass, windows and kitchen units and keep them all clean and shiny

Me too! I love clean windows, and hate to see dirty ones. Every two weeks, £8.

Bluebellbike · 22/04/2022 17:43

When I get around to it. I live in a bungalow. 4 windows and 2 doors. Moved here last August and just done them for the second time.

WindsChange · 22/04/2022 17:44

Once a year I have the windows, ledges and gutters cleaned.
I used to have the windows cleaned monthly and see no difference tbh except that the dog is less stressed and I’m £100 a year better off!

I washed mine myself when listing my house for sale after living there for 3 years. It was the first time. They weren't terrible. I used a cloth and hot water with some soda crystals. Washed them from the inside by opening them as far as possible and the way the window is set it leaves a gap to put your arm through to wash the outside face. The non opening part I just leaned out the window and reached around. Two skylights upstairs I opened fully, put a towel on the floor underneath, stood on a chair and used a jug to tip on water and reached around from various sides to wipe the window down. Then a final rinse with water from the jug and skylight near closed so the water went down onto the roof.

All in all it took about 40 mins to do 6 windows and 2 skylights. Zero cost. Not that they looked that bad after 3 years anyway it was just to give any potential buyer viewing the best impression possible. If new home is similar in how simple it was to do maybe I'd do it once a year as part of a spring clean?

Fortnightly for £6 3 storey townhouse but they only do 2 on third storey as pole doesn't reach the others. I do my insides everyday on the ground floor as my dog presses his nose against them and it drives me crazy!!

Oblomov22 · 22/04/2022 17:49

In and out for £20, every 6 weeks / 2 months.

LoveSpringDaffs · 22/04/2022 17:55

Monthly £11.

It was difficult to find a good bloke/company to do them (had a few crap ones). At various times they probably don't need to be done quite as often, but he does the neighbours too, so I wouldn't feel right about changing the frequency.

plus he's invested in good gear & water filtering system, so I like to keep supporting him.

They text the night before so you can close the windows before work.

They're all nice blokes.

@Bagelsandbrie I was so happy when your answer was first, we’re coming up to 11 years in our house and we’ve never had them professionally cleaned. Dh and I have chucked some soapy water at them or sprayed them with the hose a handful of times but that’s it and we haven’t even done that for a very long time I bet they’d come up lovely if we did get someone to do them.

We did try find someone to do it a few years back but everyone said they had fully booked rounds so it just didn’t happen.

WindyGlowers · 22/04/2022 18:15

We haven't done the upstairs yet (windows don't flip) but I think the gutter cleaning guy also does windows so once sorted it'll be once a year with the gutters.

mommybear1 · 22/04/2022 18:18

On e a month £20 or £25 if they do the insides of the bifolds and roof velux - they missed a few months due to covid and I could really tell the difference. Rain water just doesn't clean.

dudsville · 22/04/2022 11:47

Every two months here, and if you switched to that you'd halve your outgoings.

Those saying the rain washes their wishes, in guessing they don't live by the sea. Ours get a salty film!

That doesn't necessarily follow. We paid £15 every four weeks. Asked to reduce frequency and now pay £17 every eight weeks (though this time it was 10 weeks). Happy with that although my husband has previously said he would do it but never did!

Zotter · 22/04/2022 18:47

One bedroom flat, £7 once every 3 months.

WildCherryBlossom · 22/04/2022 20:37

Every 6 weeks. I love having clear, shiny windows. Impossible to do above ground floor myself.

oblada · 22/04/2022 20:44

Every month. A tenner.
It does need cleaning and we're not in a busy area. During lockdown he stopped coming and i definitely noticed the difference. I don't really have time to faff about doing it myself.
I don't the inside ones every couple of weeks or every month roughly

SpaceyCake · 22/04/2022 21:02

I've never had ours cleaned by an actual window cleaner. I tend to wash ours around three times between the beginning of spring and end of summer, but they just get dirty again very quickly. Not sure what happens but they're mega streaky after it rains so what's the point? 😂 I think it might be the render leaving some kind of residue when it rains because it looks a bit like limescale? Either way, we have blinds so you can't really see the state of the windows very well.

Maybe when we get a new house I'll treat myself to nice clean windows for once, but it's just not a priority for me at the moment.

RubbishDay · 22/04/2022 21:10

Bungalow so I can do them myself and would hate to think how much it would cost as we have 13 window/glass doors to do.

I am lazy though and they only get done 3-4 times a year and yes they get dirty.

SquirrelG · 22/04/2022 21:11

I clean my own, when I think they need doing.

Thedogscollar · 22/04/2022 21:25

Three bedroom semi cost £11every 4 weeks we asked for it to be done every 8 weeks.

After the Sahara rain he cleaned upstairs windows still a dirty. He uses the poke and filtered water system which I think is rubbish.

Previous window cleaner was old school on a ladder but sold the round to this new guy.

I would appreciate recommendations for a pole system so that we can do ourselves.

lakeswimmer · 22/04/2022 21:30

Once every two months for £8. I'm happy to pay as we can't reach them. He's a lovely bloke and we always have a chat. He came this week and I asked if he wanted to charge us more with cost of living rises but he said he wouldn't.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 22/04/2022 21:35

Every 2 months £11.

I can tell which houses have their windows cleaned and which ones don't bother on our street.

the80sweregreat · 22/04/2022 21:36

Once a month.

oioimatey · 22/04/2022 21:51

12 windows, monthly, £17.
