How often do you have your windows cleaned?

My window cleaner comes roughly once a month (weather dependant) and it’s not that expensive, but with cost of living etc, I feel like it’s something I could do with not paying for every four weeks. If you have a window cleaner, how often do they come? AIBU to think windows don’t need to be cleaned so frequently?

I moved in in 1996 and I haven't got round to cleaning them yet.

Hugasauras · 22/04/2022 11:00

Once a month, £15.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 22/04/2022 11:03

When we had them done, he generally came monthly to six weekly.

When he stopped coming in lockdown (hope he's alright and just decided not to do it anymore with no commercial work available - his mobile was disconnected), within two months, it was obvious how much of a difference it had made - the ones DP could reach were absolutely filthy, along with the sills and frames.

Currently thinking about getting a pressure washer with a long pole, as I miss having crystal clear windows, but it's not number one on spending priorities right now.

I don't think my mother's windows have ever been washed. It shows.

Once a month £12, love clean windows and I especially like it if I'm able to clean the insides to coincide with the outsides being done.

Used to be monthly for a tenner ( I think) but DH has invested in a long handled brush so he does them now.

@SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows if possible could you link to whatever he bought as I am thinking of getting something like this. Thanks!

Lem0nDrizzle · 22/04/2022 11:08

Once a month £12

TattiePants · 22/04/2022 11:09

Once a month for £20. I'm desperate for him to come as we've just had a new roof put on and the windows are filthy!

LindaEllen · 22/04/2022 11:25

I've been living here for 4 years, never had the windows cleaned, and honestly they look fine. Rain washes them for free!

PeakDistrictTrain · 22/04/2022 11:33

Every 8 weeks - £35 and it’s just gone up to £45 😮. I’ve moved it to every 3 months and will probably have to buy one of those poles and brush sets.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 22/04/2022 11:40

Once a month £8 just the front.

Chely · 22/04/2022 11:42

When I can be arsed to wash them. Not paying a window cleaner.

Louise0701 · 22/04/2022 11:43

Once a month. I couldn’t not have them cleaned and I don’t think it’s expensive or unreasonable at all.

Chely · 22/04/2022 11:44

Oh and we have fire escape windows upstairs that slide for cleaning from inside.

Noglassjustthebottleandastraw · 22/04/2022 11:44

I used to never wash my windows or have a window cleaner. One day the lovely delivery man presented me with a 30ft window cleaning brush/pole. I then discovered that I had ordered it pissed on Amazon. To be fair we do now clean our outside windows regularly. I never used to clean the inside either but now clean the inside when the outside gets cleaned.

So the moral of the story is sometimes ordering stuff whilst pissed is beneficial as my windows inside and out are now lovely 😂

ImplementingTheDennisSystem · 22/04/2022 11:45

We've had ours professionally cleaned once in 4 years.
We lean out of the window to remove any obvious lumps of bird poo. Apart from that we just leave them to it. They look perfectly fine - the rain does a decent job of cleaning them. Same with my car!

Tulips21 · 22/04/2022 11:45

Every 8 weeks- £10.

dudsville · 22/04/2022 11:47

Every two months here, and if you switched to that you'd halve your outgoings.

Those saying the rain washes their wishes, in guessing they don't live by the sea. Ours get a salty film!

Gardeningdream · 22/04/2022 11:49

Every 10 weeks to three months depending on how dirty. Costs 30 quid, but a lot of windows.

Rain doesn’t wash your windows clean, well it doesn’t mine and never has in any home I’ve owned. The dirt just dries on when it’s stopped raining,

Gizacluethen · 22/04/2022 11:51

Lived in this house 7 years and never cleaned the outside windows. I don't even do the insides every month! 😬 I can still see though them.

UrslaB · 22/04/2022 11:53

I used to have a window cleaner come once a month but I found it is a pure waste of money since windows often don't need doing or some annoying bird comes and poops on them the moment the window cleaner left.

Instead I invested in a good window blade, a set of 3 step steps for doing the downstairs windows and bought a set of those double sided magnetic window cleaning kits from amazon for the upstairs ones. What I saved in a year from getting rid of the window cleaner man paid for the materials and now I am better off every month while still having clean windows.

Now I only clean them when I feel like it or they are particularly dirty. During the summer, with good weather that is usually once every two weeks but in winter it's maybe once every six weeks at best.

mum2jakie · 22/04/2022 11:53

Once a month but only costs a fiver so won't be getting rid.

PlanBea · 22/04/2022 12:02

Once a month for us too, £10 a month and also includes bifold doors/velux/front door and the frames etc. He uses filtered water and we can't get them looking as good with our tap water (hard water area).

TheSoapyFrog · 22/04/2022 12:05

It's either every 8 or 12 weeks for £12.

Verybritishproblems101 · 22/04/2022 12:07

I don’t pay for anything I can do myself. Can you not do it yourself from now on? Would save you some money.

freshprincess · 22/04/2022 12:09

Not for many many years.
Used to say he’d been when he hadn’t. I meant to replace him, but never got round to it and can’t say I’ve noticed the difference.
