AIBU for thinking boob job isn't worth it?

Name change for this one.
My poor tits have been ravaged by three children and weight loss ( very lucky to have had the kids and the weight loss was a happy one). They are much smaller and much more uneven than they once were. I would love to have a boob job to restore my once full bosom.

However research (and one friend) has taught me that if I was to go through with this then I would need the implants would need to be replaced every 10-20 years with a possible uplift (which leaves a huge amount of scarring). If the implants are removed you without replacing you tend to be left with breasts worse than you began with,

I have seen one surgeon who recommended an uplift and implant. When I asked about replacement surgery in 10 + years he acted shifty but sort of agreed it was inevitable?!

So if I have a boob job now, I need to be committed to having 10K put aside at any one time to have the implants replaced every ten years otherwise they may leak and cause other problems. Is this right?

So many women have boob jobs that I am shocked to learn the commitment to spending possibly 50k over the course of a life time on tits!

Apologies for the poor spelling and grammar.

@lameasahorse

Yes not worth it. And will you really want to undergo this surgery as you get older?
Yes this is exactly what I'm thinking. I'm 37 now, but will I really want to put my body through this every 10-20 years? Probably not.

I bet your boobs are much nicer than you imagine on yourself. They nurtured your children and now they just want to rest and be comfortable.
Leave them be and give them some lovely bras to rest in.

heartofgrass · 18/04/2022 01:01

Mine have been in for 15years and I still love them. Yes they hang lower than when I first got them done but it's not inevitable that you would have to have them changed out. I don't think I will.

I love my boobs and never regret it. M

They were quite pricey all those years ago but I recommend my surgeon to anyone who asks - I've actually sent around 5 friends to him and they've all been over the moon!

PlasticineMeg · 18/04/2022 01:03

I know several people who’ve had boob jobs and not one has needed a 10 year replacement. I think some implants have been found to be dangerous and recalled but it’s not actually a requirement AFAIK

This is what I keep telling myself. I wish it was as easy to believe it as it is to say it though.

I haven't had one myself, but used to want one, badly.
Then a friend's cousin had one. She has had to replace it four times in 23 years (once due to infection). It looks fab, but I couldn't justify that kind of cost/risk/upkeep.

That's great you are so happy with them and they have lasted so long! What will you do when they need to be replaced in a few years? Would you choose to replace them again knowing you would need to replace them when you are even older or would you take them out and leave it? Sorry if that's too personal

Read up on breast implant illness. Doesn’t sound good at all.

My surgeon told me that the current advice for good quality implants was not to change them unless there was an issue of some sort. Apparently there’s now no reason to do so and the risks of the surgery to replace them would outweigh any benefits, unless there was a specific problem.

I think you're right but no implants are expected to last more than 10 -20 years. The majority of them appear to end up causing difficulties, mostly capsular contraction, if left in.

My friend had implants put in when she was 20, she says she was never told they would one day have to be removed or replaced. 15 years later she had them removed as one of them flipped Shock and it's left her with scarred lopsided breasts which might have been avoided if she had the replaced on time. She says she never would have had implants if she had known the lifetime financial and physical investment. I never knew this, I thought you could just have a boob job and that would be it.

Yes the implants I got are apparently for life so there's no need to change them. As I said, they're sagging a bit more now BUT personally I think it just makes them look more natural. so I don't think I'll bother changing them.

Mine have a lifetime warranty against rupture and capsular contracture. They're also filled with cohesive gel so even if it was to unlikely split, no gel would leak (he explained it to me like cutting open a jelly baby)

Honestly, there's a world of difference in Implants between surgeons and it makes sense to do your research and I honestly believe this is one of the times where you get what you pay for

Have you looked into auto-augmentation breast lift? They use all of your own tissue and no foreign body.

fallfallfall · 18/04/2022 02:04

no clue why your friend has told you this. you should speak to a plastic surgeon yourself and get up to date accurate for you advice.
at the age of 60+ i had a mastopexy. no implant just my own stuff squished into better place and shape and held there by my own nice and firm skin.
i wouldn't believe online stuff either, most is out of date.

BillyAndTheSillies · 18/04/2022 07:31

I had an auto augmented breast lift a month ago. Lots of people don't know they exist and many surgeons don't offer it but if you can find one that does it could be worth looking in to.

They are now perky, full and my nipples point in the right direction. My own breast tissue was used like an implant and I am really pleased with the outcome. I didn't want implants due to maintenance and breast implant illness.

Maybebabyno2 · 18/04/2022 07:35

I'm going to get a lift without implants I think. Can't be doing with replacing them etc, I just want some of the loose skin gone. Would that be an option?

Onionpatch · 18/04/2022 07:44

I thonk you have to be prepared that you may well have to replace them. Even if not everyone does, many do. My sister had had 3 surgeries now and regrets ever starting the process.

marmiteandminticecream · 18/04/2022 08:45

does an auto augmented breast lift make them firmer
i have small boobs but too scared to get inplants but i hate how saggy they are after haveing kids

i think i'd be happy if they was perkier
how much did it cost?
