AIBU for thinking boob job isn't worth it?

Name change for this one.
My poor tits have been ravaged by three children and weight loss ( very lucky to have had the kids and the weight loss was a happy one). They are much smaller and much more uneven than they once were. I would love to have a boob job to restore my once full bosom.

However research (and one friend) has taught me that if I was to go through with this then I would need the implants would need to be replaced every 10-20 years with a possible uplift (which leaves a huge amount of scarring). If the implants are removed you without replacing you tend to be left with breasts worse than you began with,

I have seen one surgeon who recommended an uplift and implant. When I asked about replacement surgery in 10 + years he acted shifty but sort of agreed it was inevitable?!

So if I have a boob job now, I need to be committed to having 10K put aside at any one time to have the implants replaced every ten years otherwise they may leak and cause other problems. Is this right?

So many women have boob jobs that I am shocked to learn the commitment to spending possibly 50k over the course of a life time on tits!

@Maybebabyno2, of course it’s possible it’s called a mastopexy. Breast Lift.

I've looked into it, and come to the same conclusion. The scarring would be extensive for me (uplift, not just tiny incision for implants) so they would still not look great fully naked, and they already look OK in a decent bra 🤷‍♀️

Ps I think the same about so many minor, temporarily-rich "celebs" having expensive veneers put on their teeth as well!

@lameasahorse, genetics plays a role in scaring but generally plastic surgeons are very good with incision lines.
Nipple sensation can also improve as sagging can reduce sensation.

@LittleWhingingWoman

I bet your boobs are much nicer than you imagine on yourself. They nurtured your children and now they just want to rest and be comfortable. Leave them be and give them some lovely bras to rest in.
Love this! And yes, love your boobs Flowers

I did think of it when younger but after research decided it just wasn't worth it.

Lifting in the gym has improved them, that's much cheaper and better for my physical and mental health too. Still thinking of getting an abdiminoplasty though after 6 babies (inc huge twins), the huge amount of excess skin there is much more depressing than my boobs are (at least those are still perky in my late 30's).

Babar100 · 18/04/2022 14:57

The scarring really isn’t bad at all these days, within a year it’ll have faded to barely noticeable, very thin white lines and they will look great. Surgery is the best thing I ever did, makes such a difference. I’d probably do it again if I had to.

fallfallfall · 18/04/2022 15:04

@lameasahorse, yes decreased sensation due to pulling is a thing, it’s not mentioned often but my surgery improved my nipple sensation and at my post op check up I mentioned it. The plastic surgeon confirmed that this is not unusual.

I think it's really sad that women mutilate themselves for men's titillation. Breasts are for feeding children, not to look nice for men.

Capsular contracture would scare me the most. My friend has implants and recently had them replaced as one was rock solid.

Countdownis35 · 18/04/2022 15:21

@Maybebabyno2

I'm going to get a lift without implants I think. Can't be doing with replacing them etc, I just want some of the loose skin gone. Would that be an option?
I think this would be better than implants.
fallfallfall · 18/04/2022 15:21

@Fr0thandBubble, I can guarantee you that at 61 I didn’t have my reduction and lift for anyone else.
They interfered with exercise, in the heat of the summer wearing a bra was horrible. Bras are expensive.

motleymop · 18/04/2022 15:27

I had one in my 20s and naively thought it would be all OK having them replaced in future - it seemed ages away. I then left them in too long and the silicone is in the lymph nodes under my arms for life. The surgeon had a right job cleaning them up. Anyway, that was my stupid fault - but, I wouldn't have them again if I went back in time. (Off topic, but I don't think anyone under the age of 30 should be offered them - not that that rule could ever be imposed.) I'm terrified of surgery so I have no idea what I was thinking.

honestly my grandma aggressively saying that to me practically in those words is what made me not breastfeed my first child and miss out on all the benefits to both of us. it just made me so angry that she was saying parts of my body were only for feeding someone else another male actually that I didn't want to share. they're also for me you be happy with. please be careful what you say.

@separatedmum Sorry but that's just such a weird comment. Biologically, breasts are for breastfeeding. Vaginas are for giving birth. Urethras are for peeing out of. Ears are for hearing. None of this is controversial. I won't "be careful what I say" because what I said is a fact. If you choose to take it a weird way, that's on you.

queenMab99 · 18/04/2022 15:36

I fed 2 babies, and then lost a lot of weight in my 40s, they did go comparatively droopy , but after a couple of years and a bit of exercising at home, just squeezing hands together with elbows raised and lifting tins of beans, they recovered, and are still presentable in my 70s (although no one to present them to Grin)

2bazookas · 18/04/2022 15:36

Save the money to buy yourself some far less risky and more life-enhancing treats.

That I completely get. What I don't like is breast enlargements, which, let's be frank, women get because they think men will find it attractive. It's just more objectification of women.

I had a mastopexy and implants aged 45 after 3 children and a significant weight loss. I had worked hard in the gym to get my body in the best shape of my life but my boobs were like saggy, empty sacks.
I did a lot of research. I had always had big boobs - a D cup - so I had DD implants put it. None of my friends knew I had implants done until i told them as I had been wearing moulded cup bras following my weight loss. My parents never knew I had the procedure done despite seeing me regularly throughout their lives.
I've had mine in for 15 years now and had no problems of any kind. No visible scarring either. As it happens I decided to have a check-up this year and am seeing someone in a couple of months time just to see if anything needs changing.
Personally, I would say, if you've finished your family and it's something that will make you feel good, why not do it? I have no regrets at all (I'm 60 now)

Beautiful3 · 18/04/2022 15:43

There was a lady at the nursing home who had to be rushed into hospital, as she had problems with her implants hardening. She was in so much pain, the staff didn't realise she had implants until she got to the hospital. I would say, if you have the money and recovery time for the initial operation and maintenance every 10 years, go for it. However if you don't, I wouldn't bother. Can you get fat injected into the breasts? I'm pretty sure you can. That would be a natural filler, wouldn't it?
