Supermarket when you’re covid positive

Not to start a bunfight, I just want to know. Would you go supermarket shopping when you were testing positive?

OP posts:

There are other ways to get food like the internet which - oh, hang on- you are using now

Having the Internet and having food/groceries delivered are not the same thing?
We has covid at christmas/new year. There were no delivery slots available for several days. We were fortunate that friends brought us a few bits we needed before our delivery. Not everyone has someone they can ask. Not everyone gets supermarket deliveries or instant getir type deliveries.
If I knew I was covid positive I wouldn't go to a supermarket but I'm not going to judge others who might not have the same choices.

You wouldn't think this needed saying, would you?

Beggars belief

MrsLargeEmbodied · 15/04/2022 17:05

you have a minimum spend for online shopping, which i might not have available.
there might be not slots.
it is not a crime

Wizzbangfizz · 15/04/2022 17:06

I wouldn't know if I had covid or not as I won't be testing so yes probably.

tomatorich112 · 15/04/2022 17:06

@Getupoffthesofa

Well I've avoided it so far, been very careful. I also still wear a mask while out and about.
I'm a lone parent with no family nearby, if I need food, yes I will go and buy it.
I'm not going to restrict life going forward, both of my children have had covid, both a very mild cold.
We can't life in fear anymore, the country can't afford it, mental health can't tolerate it.

Yes the simple things in life can bring joy, normal life is joyful and two years of lockdown should prove that to you. We all know it's not just about shopping is it...it's about living a normal life.

I'm not selfish just being realistic, people aren't testing so there you go.

lightand · 15/04/2022 17:10

@7eleven

If you can’t pay for a LFT, you won’t know whether you’ve got it or not. We can’t not go out just because our nose is running. That’s the way the Government wants it to be. Right or wrong.
This

Times have changed

Cant see the government going back to what it was until at least Sept, if then. Not popular politically at the current time, to lock people up again.
Plus the economy has taken a nosedive in many countries. Of people have to choose between money/livelihoods and covid, they will be choosing money. People need to eat and stay warm.

Fizbosshoes · 15/04/2022 17:11

2 years on there is still the word selfish (and/or stupid) being thrown about, without taking into account people's circumstances.
People generally are selfish ie putting oneself and children/family first. It's what people do to survive. Even those who stay at home with covid are probably "selfish" in other ways.
Some people are unable to understand that someone might risk going to work with covid because they won't be paid0, otherwise (and can't afford bills/food/rent if they dont)
With the rising cost of living and end of free testing any more I imagine a lot of people will be going out with what might (or might not) be covid because they need to

Pootle40 · 15/04/2022 17:13

@GemGEmGemster

Yes, if I felt well enough. COVID’s not a cold though.
At the end of the day it is for the vast majority
lightand · 15/04/2022 17:14

@Chooksnroses

I'm very interested in the people who say they would , and I'd like to ask if you would visit a vulnerable relative if you knew or suspected you had Covid?
I would personally make do with what food I had at home.

But no, would not visit a vulnerable relative unless they were ok about it. And some, well the elderly, are now ok about it. They cant see the problem any more.

But as people are saying, if each test costs say £2, and the government are saying dont test, well some people wont. And some wont know they have it.

Like I say, times have changed.

dizzydizzydizzy · 15/04/2022 17:14

@Remmy123

Nearly everyone I know didn't even have it as bad as a cold.

I do not thjnk it's easy to pass on in a large supermarket (with mask on)

@Remmy123 your circle will not be representative of the population. According to widely available evidence, It is like a cold for many but many it is worse but worse still, there is long covid, which is not rare. It means weeks or months of symptoms Like fatigue and brain fog, which means you may not be able to earn a living, your family will have to step in for you at home and you won't be able to do what you enjoy. All this Has a knock on effect on mental health.
Pootle40 · 15/04/2022 17:14

I was going to count the number of times the word 'selfish'appears in this thread.....🤦🏻‍♀️

StStephensTower · 15/04/2022 17:15

Yes and I did, with mask. If I hadn’t tested I wouldn’t have known I even had it.

CowboyFromHell · 15/04/2022 17:15

Isn’t it a moot point now there is less focus on testing, and you now have to pay for tests?

If I’m too ill to get to the supermarket I won’t go, and if I’m well enough I will go. Just like we all did in 2019.

dizzydizzydizzy · 15/04/2022 17:15

And no don't go to the supermarket with covid. If is a severe illness for some.

Schoolchoicesucks · 15/04/2022 17:17

No. I'd do an online order. And use deliveroo or similar for essential groceries or a meal until that came.

If I lived somewhere that wasn't an option, I'd ask a friend or neighbour to drop me some essentials off.

If I lived somewhere where I couldn't get deliveries and had no friends or neighbours willing to help, I might chance a quick double masked trip at supermarket opening times. Then reconsider my life choices.

user1471538283 · 15/04/2022 17:19

No I didnt. I live in a city and so had amazon delivery twice which is the same day, we had deliveroo for a few meals and my friend dropped some bits over.

I felt so dreadful even with the vaccinations I couldnt risk passing it onto someone else. I also couldn't face driving

Pootle40 · 15/04/2022 17:20

Don't have any. Lost my dad to a brain tumour at 51 and mum to Parkinson's 70. Frankly can't get too worked up about Covid.
Wheresmywoolyjumpers · 15/04/2022 17:25

No. It is really selfish.

Cheesewiz · 15/04/2022 17:31

No, I would get uber eats or friend to drop off something

TroysMammy · 15/04/2022 17:32

I'm a mask wearer, I caught covid but not from the small amount of friends and family I was in contact with beforehand. So I can only assume it was someone with symptoms and not wearing a mask who I came into contact with whilst out shopping.

LargeglassofRosePlease · 15/04/2022 17:32

@Remmy123

Wouid you go to the shops with a cold?
Covid is not a 'cold' though is it 🙄🙄🙄🙄
SlashBeef · 15/04/2022 17:34

Yes, I did.

TheNumberfaker · 15/04/2022 17:34

No of course not. If you know you have it, stay at home. Can’t believe 1 in 5 have said they would.

ButtockUp · 15/04/2022 17:35

No.

SookieHouseboat · 15/04/2022 17:35

@Bpdqueen

Pls don't do this im CEV and work in a supermarket 😔
I’m interested to know if you get paid if you get it?
