Can you get this in the UK? Because it really works.

Swimming? When my dd was little she suffered a lot with constipation and swimming was the only thing that worked. I took her 3-4 times a week for months…

waitingpatientlyforspring · 14/04/2022 04:04

I drink mint tea and that has helped long term constipation.

Short term try some exercise if you are up for it. I often find I need to go after doing zumba even if I didn't before.

Ugh, I had impaction after I gave birth. It was hideous. Keep going with the dosage of movicol. Lactulose is good if it’s constipation because it keeps your movements hydrated from the top end. If it’s impaction then you’ll need more suppositories/enemas to physically hydrate it enough to move from the other end. I was told to use the glycerin suppository one after the other, I.e. if I had a bowel movement but it hadn’t all shifted, straight back to lying on my side with another suppository up there. Oh and if it’s impaction then take some paracetamol 😬 Good luck!

Krabapple · 14/04/2022 04:42

Dulcolax. Miracle stuff.

DontStopMeNow7 · 14/04/2022 05:12

Umm..,how many days has it been since you had a bowel movement? And how long have you been treating the constipation? If you’ve had 5 sachets of Movicol in 24 hours (?) that’s quite an overdose so don’t do anything else like that just yet.

Drink lots of water, prunes or prune juice are good. However, if you’ve been at this a while it might be worth contacting your GP. It might be impacted, in which case a nurse might need to use suppositories, and if that fails, an enema. May god have mercy on your soul.

Monty27 · 14/04/2022 05:24

All bran
Heinz tomato soup
Bag of chips

Not all in the same day
It's not always about meds.
And please see a GP there could be an issue. Best wishes 💐

Cervinia · 14/04/2022 05:27

The movicol will take a full 24 hours or more I’m afraid. It will work though. When I had my worst bought ever I did 8 sachets of Laxido on day one and six on day 2. It worked though, but it took about 36 hours.

Cervinia · 14/04/2022 05:28

*bout

Put your feet up on a toddler's step stool when you are ready to go. It puts you in squat position and relaxes the ring.

Toothsil · 14/04/2022 05:35

I wouldn't try anything else yet when you've tried all that already, it may need time to take effect. If it doesn't work, I was very constipated after major surgery and lots of opiates, and lactulose worked really well for me. I need another major surgery and will start the lactulose earlier this time.

CalmH2O · 14/04/2022 05:45

Plums and tea

UniversalAunt · 14/04/2022 05:50

@Incapacitated Banana is low FODMAP.

ImplementingTheDennisSystem · 14/04/2022 06:34

I second very strong coffee.

ByeByeMissAmericanPie · 14/04/2022 06:47

After all you’ve taken, I’d suggest going for a walk to relax your system and get it moving, then your bowels should follow suit.
Or do some yoga.

aprilsunshine777 · 14/04/2022 06:49

Bran flakes.
Chia seeds.
I have bran flakes every day with sultanas.
And I put chia seeds in yoghurts/porridge.
It's hard to actually become constipated having those!
But if it's for immediate effect - strong coffee.

astorsback · 14/04/2022 07:00

You need 2 x Dulcolax. 6 hours later - relief.

elvenqueen · 14/04/2022 07:11

Beetroot. Celery.

OP, over what period of time did you take all this?

And has it worked yet?

phoenixrosehere · 14/04/2022 07:38

Old MN tip for those who'd recently given birth & were terrified of the first poo - dried apricots. It might not work for serious constipation, but it certainly helps to break things down and ease their passage.

I remember hearing about the first poo and with the second baby, the moment they wheeled us onto the ward and I had my hand free, I guzzled down three pitchers of water that they have out in quick succession and continued to drink (had a catheter in) water and once it was removed and I was able to go, no pain and I had been cut for forceps.

I would try kombucha. It’s fizzy and fermented with live bacteria that are good for the gut. Remedy kombucha has no sugar added and have lots of flavours to choose from. They come in different sizes and you can get them from Holland and Barrett or do a Google search and see who is selling them elsewhere.

Norgie · 14/04/2022 07:39

Syrup of figs, or Californian figs as I think it's called now.
A teaspoon of that and you'll be on the loo faster than you can say andrex.

Chobbers · 14/04/2022 08:40

Laxido on prescription worked well. Also -at least 2 litres of water a day and more if you can manage it.

Onlyforcake · 14/04/2022 08:41

Pears

Onlyforcake · 14/04/2022 08:48

And a hot tub or a hot bath, hot water bottle stomach and back afterwards. I'm sure sweet tea (no milk) helps me too

TastyM · 14/04/2022 08:50

Take a capsule of magnesium every night.

For immediate relief a tbs of Epsom salts in water and a cup of tea 30 minutes later.
