Old MN tip for those who'd recently given birth & were terrified of the first poo - dried apricots. It might not work for serious constipation, but it certainly helps to break things down and ease their passage.

knowinglesseveryday · 14/04/2022 01:07

Eventually water will do the truck.

Iamnotin · 14/04/2022 01:11

Lots of water and wait - you've taken lots, give your system some time. If all of that hasn't helped by tomorrow get an enema from the chemist.

Floralnomad · 14/04/2022 01:12

10mg of bisacodyl ( 2 tablets) , you will likely get horrendous stomach cramps but it usually works well .

TheSandgroper · 14/04/2022 01:17

Fenugreek is mucilaginous. I would take it by the teaspoon 4 x per day. Might come with a side order of breastmilk.

PlasticineMeg · 14/04/2022 01:23

Is it definitely constipation and not fecal impaction? In other words - is the poo waiting to come out but can’t or is your gut being really slow?

Lengokengo · 14/04/2022 01:24

Fried onions and peppers!

flyingdream · 14/04/2022 01:25

Prunes in a tin. Eat as many as you can.

Boxowine · 14/04/2022 01:31

Enema. You can buy little disposable ones.

I don't know. I started taking ondasetron (Zofran) to tolerate an antibiotic on Saturday and haven't had a bowel movement since the end of last week. It just feels completely shut down. The GP palpated it which hurt yesterday and said it felt a bit distended so I think there's something there. But I didn't realise until I got home that this was the situation. Nothing that usually works is working. I'm on the elimination stage of the fodmap diet so as grateful as I am for the dietary suggestions, I couldn't eat them.

Shit-Tea
Prune juice
Senakot (sp?)

milkyaqua · 14/04/2022 02:17

Bananas. Olive oil. Root vegetables. (Not necessarily all together! but a meal with generous amounts of olive oil and root vegetables, or rice if that's on your current diet with peas.) Natural yoghurt. (Banana smoothie with yoghurt, eg.) Hot bath, warm pack on abdomen.

steff13 · 14/04/2022 02:19

Coffee usually does the trick for me.

Zofran can cause constipation. The antibiotics are likely to have messed up your gut flora too. You should talk to your GP about the combination of the FODMAP diet and the medications. Maybe they can order an ultrasound to check for bowel obstruction.

fraggiequeen · 14/04/2022 03:07

Magnesium tablets, I take 3 a night as I'm taking iron tablets and suffer from chronic constipation, they really help by the next day.

lborgia · 14/04/2022 03:09

I was going to say probiotics !

As long as you take them 4hrs away from antibiotics you can take them on the same day (don't stop antibiotics working, but they won't help if they're too close together).

Also magnesium.

Both of these will also help your recovery generally. And fodmap friendlySmile

TooManyPJs · 14/04/2022 03:20

I second linseeds/flaxseeds. Make sure you have plenty of water with them (which you should be doing anyway if you are constipated).

And 1000mg vitamin c capsules twice a day.

PinkSyCo · 14/04/2022 03:27

Baked beans.

CatWoman12345 · 14/04/2022 03:36

Another vote for lactulose here. Used it both times I'd had relatively major surgery when I got to the point I thought I was going to explode; we now have it on hand 'just in case'
