Inspired by another thread but mainly by my own experiences today.
In February it was 20p to use the public loos at our favourite seaside town. Today it has doubled to 40p! There are now contactless points incase you don't have any cash. 40p to pee!
Mr Kipling cherry Bakewells have jumped to £1.90 in Asda and I'm sure they used to be £1.40 or sometimes even £1 and that was only a few weeks back. Cake isn't essential I know, but peeing is. Things have gone up generally but the odd pence here and there isn't always noticed but these are huge jumps.

First world problem but had a Chinese take away tonight and every dish has gone up by £1.20

Similar first world problem but it really illustrated it to me. Our local Indian prices have increased in the past few months, by 35-58%

Pilau rice - 2.60 to 3.05
Popadom - 0.60 to 0.95
Naan - 2.25 to 2.90

It is now just over £100 to fill up my car - was £60ish when we got it. Perfectly ordinary family car, not a 4x4 or anything.

Yep same for me. Normal car. Fuel efficiency is good on long journeys but on the local important ones it seems to evaporate. A half hour journey costs £5 it's unbelievable how much it's gone up. We need a new car and would love one that's better for the environment and lower running costs but the cost of a hybrid / electric is still sooooo prohibitive we'll be forced to stick with fuel.

Just out of interest has anyone got their £150 council tax rebate yet ? Our council said they would pay it after the 1st of April but no sign of it yet.

No... apparently it can come any time between now and October...

ssd · 24/04/2022 14:07

Mine came off through my bill

R2G · 24/04/2022 15:01

My gas and electric has doubled. I read somewhere that the average increase is around 3 pounds a day so I have been doing surveys to get this amount daily. I just do them for an hour while watching TV and it has really helped me mentally to not stress about it. If you want to try then you can use this link and it gives you 40p to start off with.

I'm inviting you to join AttaPoll. Get paid to take surveys. Download the app here: attapoll.app/join/skawm

Anybody else feeling that last week of the month so much harder this month?

Anybody else feeling that last week of the month so much harder this month?

Yes! Mainly because I had two weeks of Easter holiday so couldn't earn extra cash doing supply teaching. I'm woefully down on my earnings this month. Not looking forward to August, so trying to save what I can already.

PleaseYourselfandEatTheCrusts · 25/04/2022 09:47

Yes, last week of the month is definitely harder here.

July feels a long way off when you’ve no money right now though…

TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 26/04/2022 08:14

@LadyCatStark yes it's frustrating that they set that change for July! The excuse seems to be that they need to give payroll system providers time to make the change.

As a payroll systems expert I can tell you categorically that we do not need until July. I could make that change to every system I have ever worked with in an hour tops.

The bonus you will get though is that threshold is per employment so you will see the benefit twice 😊

When I was in the UK 4 years ago, I was very surprised at how cheap and variable food was. Far cheaper than in the other 2 countries I have recently lived in with so much choice. Sounds like that has changed recently. I haven't notice the same increases where I am currently (Australia) - its always been very expensive here! Though usually good quality.

InvisibleDragon · 26/04/2022 10:09

A frivolous one, but we ordered takeaway pizza last night. It's ages since I last ordered pizza, but the cost for one pizza at the first place we tried was £19.99. Thought maybe we were being fussy, so tried 3 more places and the prices were very similar.

We don't order pizza much, but I'm sure there used to be a lot of 2 for £15 type deals not long ago.

Eventually managed to find a decent discount code, but no way was I going to pay £20 (plus tip) for one pizza.

Anchor Butter is £3.75 ive started buying Clover

CervixSampler · 27/04/2022 20:43

How much??!! Jeez. That's a lot. How many grams do you get for that extortionate price? Dd thinks we should get a herd of dairy cows.

The best butter by far, in my opinion, is the Aldi extra special with sea salt crystals butter block. It knocks socks off everything else, including Lurpack/ Anchor. It's £1.65. Honestly, try it.

Went to Asda today shopping came to just over £60 for hardly anything. The only meat was a chicken, frozen ribs and 2 packs of £1 salami. No toiletries apart from a Asda own mouth wash and no loo roll or kitchen towel and no cat food.
I did buy yogurts, milk, fruit, salad stuff and veg, Asda own squash, water, cereal, bread and 2 packs of Asda’s own biscuits. The highlight of the day was finding a bra in my size on the reduced rack for 10p. It’s a weird shade of grey but at that price who cares and did take the sting out of the cost of everything else.

You could probably dye it…

@mrziggycoco

I've been shopping in my Aldi for four years and when I picked up two full bags of our usual shop there the other day I realised it was literally twice as much as when I first moved here.

I used to feed my baby and myself for £30/week and our two cats with all household stuff too, that was 5 years ago. Now, I doubt you could do it. It's scary because I wouldn't have survived back then with these prices.

I have just under 30 a week to cover 2 adults 2 teens and 2 cats... it doesn't cover i skip meals and the kids always hungry now

It’s not much money but I would buy 3 chickens each week (should be able to get 3 for £10) as so versatile, several different carbs ie bread, pasta, potatoes, rice etc and some veg and bananas. Add some eggs and a pack of cheap sausages and that should still only take you to £20 or so.

PaddleBoardingMomma · 27/04/2022 23:29

A few I've noticed the past week:

Lurpak is £4 in sainsburys

A soy milk latte (regular size) £3.65 (local coffee place, was £3 last time I was in, about 2 weeks ago)

Regina kitchen roll 4 pack £7! (Sainsburys)

Pink lady apples 6 pack £3.60
