Inspired by another thread but mainly by my own experiences today.
In February it was 20p to use the public loos at our favourite seaside town. Today it has doubled to 40p! There are now contactless points incase you don't have any cash. 40p to pee!
Mr Kipling cherry Bakewells have jumped to £1.90 in Asda and I'm sure they used to be £1.40 or sometimes even £1 and that was only a few weeks back. Cake isn't essential I know, but peeing is. Things have gone up generally but the odd pence here and there isn't always noticed but these are huge jumps.

Electricity is probably the main one here. We've set the ideal usage to £100 per week on the smart meter, but we always go over that. It's way over what we paid this time last year.

£100 a week?!? Wow. How many units is that?

From 2 Mar 22 to 31 Mar 22 we used 420 kWh of electricity and 473 kWh of gas.

We pay about £90 a month for electricity and about £25 for gas. 2 adults, 2 teens, 3 bed semi detached built 1989.

We fixed 7th October 2021 so I'm expecting a massive jump in October coming but our useage estimate is pretty spot on.

TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 18/04/2022 11:05

£100 a week for electricity!! Wtf?

We just got our bill for March. £47 for gas and electric combined. We are on fixed tariff until next May though so granted we are on a much lower tariff than some people.

Sirzy · 18/04/2022 12:04

Out of interest yesterday I looked how much a supermarket shop from December would cost at now prices. December it cost me £47 now it would be £53 for the exact same items from the same supermarket

Wrongkindofovercoat · 18/04/2022 20:49

Just out of interest has anyone got their £150 council tax rebate yet ? Our council said they would pay it after the 1st of April but no sign of it yet.

Yep, had it last week.

If you're on a fixed tariff you won't have been affected....yet. many have found theirs doubling so I'd be prepared.
TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 18/04/2022 23:19

Thanks @Patchbatch we are trying to put a bit extra away ready for when it will go up next year. Although secretly hoping things may have started to settle back down by then!

@Duracellbunnywannabe

Box of 12 packets of wipes at Tesco were £6.00 and are now £7.20.

I’ve noticed a significant increase in my food shopping despite cutting back. Tesco are recording yet another record breaking profit. I think I’m going to change to Aldi.

It's Tescos announcing huge profits that drives me nuts too. Hate feeling ripped off. Would rather pay more in Waitrose as you know it's a partnership and profits make their way to the workers. I can't afford Waitrose though so it's Aldi all the way.
myBumJuiceSmellsLikeRoses · 19/04/2022 09:50

Thought about this thread yesterday when I saw an ad on TV.

Co-op deal, 2 pizzas and a 4 pack of Bud. Not something I buy but I noticed it was £5.50 when last year the same deal was £5.
I imagine if Co-op continue doing deal bundles, each one will be noticably more.

Our council said they would pay it after the first successful DD had been taken out "to ensure the bank details are correct" (that's code for 'so we don't give you free money').

Asda are similar. We sometimes get the pizza meal deal and it used to be 2 pizzas a drink and a sky voucher for £5 it's now £6 but still good value and now you get a vue voucher or sky which is better for us as we wouldn't use the sky one but would use vue
princesspeppax · 19/04/2022 10:10

My dogs food 24 tins was £9 odd, now hiked to £13 odd Sad such a big jump

DecemberGal · 19/04/2022 10:14

Re the coop deals I don’t bother as ours is too small to get everything and we don’t really do pizzas 🍕 which is basically a toasted sandwich 🥪 I used to work in coop financial services so still have my 10% discount card.
I do however look for deals in various supermarkets and shop accordingly. DH does not want to do home delivery or click & collect as my card was hacked1st time I tried.

onemouseplace · 19/04/2022 10:19

Not really a massive surprise, but picked up a new gas bottle for the BBQ yesterday and it's gone from c. £30 to £45.

moneyworriesagain · 19/04/2022 22:55

That even the budget supermarkets seem to have removed a lot of their "essentials/basics" ranges. So for those that can't afford things it's going to get even harder.

I'm guessing it's because it's just not financially prudent for them to make them now but Hmm

Alexandra2001 · 20/04/2022 08:02

Meanwhile, pre energy cap increase, the top 4 uk energy supply companies (EDF EoN Scottish Energy...) made 1 billion in profit, will increase dramatically with the 53% cap rise.

Tesco made 2 billion profit last financial year.

So the cost of living crisis isn't a crisis for some.

Neverendingdust · 20/04/2022 16:29

What’s concerning is the offers in the supermarkets aren’t as good now. I buy Alpro Almond milk and would always get it when it was £1-£1.25. Full prices it’s now £2.10 and Tesco have it currently on offer for £1.45.

personally I am financially secure so I can manage to take the hit albeit grudgingly, but for those who have no option other than to budget and live frugally it’s now more or less impossible to avoid the price increases which is going to have implications on the standard of living for so many.

A couple of months of this and we will start to see areas of the economy suffering because disposable income will be squeezed out massively.

SparklyLeprechaun · 20/04/2022 16:59

I took a Uber a couple of days ago for a journey I used to do regularly. I used to pay ~£22, it was £43

Plantsandpuddlesuits · 21/04/2022 14:13

Bottle of drink I buy every week for lunch....was £1 now £1.15.

Hearing aid batteries....was £25 for approximately a years supply. Now £35!

LadyCatStark · 21/04/2022 17:08

DH got a 5% pay rise and has ended up with nearly £100 less this month after deductions 😡 WTAF?? I could cry as I’ve taken on a 2nd job to try to keep our heads above water and most of it will be eaten up by the rise in NI 😡😡😡.

CervixSampler · 22/04/2022 20:41

I'm still annoyed at the 40p to pee. Yesterday in M&S their fruited tea cakes have gone up 10p and shrunk in size. And dc decided they didn't like them once I'd toasted and buttered them for us all 😩 no way I could eat 3 despite them shrinking in size.
Jamaica ginger cake in Asda today: it's often 75p or £1, it was £1.50 today. Boxes of ice lollies now 3 packs for £5 instead of £3.
I still haven't got my new Dd for gas and electricity yet and am dreading it.

All these examples are scary.

We've got a bargain shop in 'ull called Stack it High. All dead cheap stuff, I never go but when my granddaughter's visit they love it. Last week 3 packs of Candy Kittens, the £2.45 bag (I checked on Waitrose), were a £1. Lots of bargains in the frozen north. Oh, and houses are buy one get one free. That's a bad joke, I blimming love it up here!

RelativePitch · 24/04/2022 06:25

12kg bag of dog food gone from £59 to £67. Electricity and gas usage since 1st April is already £140 despite not having had gas central heating on at all and boiler on only for 1hr-2hrs day for hot water and being super tight with electricity. Would have been £90 a month in the summer months last year.

Alexandra2001 · 24/04/2022 12:42

Behind 18 pages of price rise examples, is profiteering.

4 Energy companies made 1 billion in profit BEFORE price cap rises.
Oil companies charging more petrol despite oil price being lower.

Tesco made 2 billion last year, yet still keep putting up prices as are all other supermarkets.

I'm amazed people are just taking this, all i can assume is there is a lot more money in peoples pockets than i imagined.
