Inspired by another thread but mainly by my own experiences today.
In February it was 20p to use the public loos at our favourite seaside town. Today it has doubled to 40p! There are now contactless points incase you don't have any cash. 40p to pee!
Mr Kipling cherry Bakewells have jumped to £1.90 in Asda and I'm sure they used to be £1.40 or sometimes even £1 and that was only a few weeks back. Cake isn't essential I know, but peeing is. Things have gone up generally but the odd pence here and there isn't always noticed but these are huge jumps.

As others - diesel is the biggest indicator.
I took half a tank which was £54 last week, when £50-60 used to fill a tank pre-covid.

Otherwise, the weekly shop in general £20-30ish more in Aldi.

I get my meat delivered from a local butcher - price has risen on a few things but they now have a minimum order value for delivery, under which they change £3. Delivery was always free locally no matter what. I order enough to last 2 weeks so I go over that value.

myBumJuiceSmellsLikeRoses · 14/04/2022 11:04

Oh yeah and bulk buy coffee from Amazon - was £17 now £21

frazzled101 · 14/04/2022 11:05

Childminder has gone up 50p per hour.

Hipp stage 1 formula up from £10.50 to £12/£12.50 depending on where you buy it.

We're planning to renovate our attic at the end of the year. It was always the plan when we bought the house 5 years ago and now I wish we had of just done it then. The increase in cost will be frightening.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 14/04/2022 11:06

FYI brewers fayre do 25% discount with blue light not a huge amount but it adds up x

Ah, fab, thanks for the tip, worriedaboutmoney2022 - we've been an NHS household for 20 years but only recently got around to getting a BLC, so still learning the deals!

Don't judge me, here(!), but I've also noticed the prices of Spar grab and go hot food has gone up significantly. A sausage sandwich or burger used to be about £1.09 a few months ago (iirc - I don't get them that often) and is now £1.45.

The problem is that, per item, none of these increases sound much. One thing goes up by 16p, and it sounds pathetic to even mention it, because 16p is really not very much money for most people, really; but the combined effect of everything going up by that amount/percentage makes an immense difference - especially if it was previously, say, 85p and now gone up to £1.01.

I'm sure I remember reading ages ago that Tesco (and presumably the other big supermarkets) only make about 3 or 4% profit on each item, so going on their colossal profits, a few pence here or there cumulatively clearly does make a big difference.

Gonnagetgoing · 14/04/2022 11:09

Everything’s crept up stealthwise from chicken whole which isn’t organic but next one down from it up by at least £3-£4.

Milk up by approx 60p.

One thing I noticed yesterday, a local park cafe has switched from cash only to using a wireless connection card machine. More parents will still buy soft drinks, ice creams and coffees there and nearest cashpoint is only 5 mins walk but up and down a steep hill! One of those areas though where the nearest shop isn’t near and this is suburbs SE London.

IBelieveInAThingCalledScience · 14/04/2022 11:22

Of course the global geopolitical situation has had an impact on all services, products and distribution.

Yet..... most large corporations are posting record profits and not increasing employee's wages.

All is see is cultural wars and division between people to keep them distracted while they profit. Sick of it

Zilla1 · 14/04/2022 11:30

Wonder if the UK will have a short period of deflation in a year when the increases in fuel and energy fall out, petrol/diesel dips and supply chains reconfigure?? Hope it doesn't coincide with the benchmark month for benefits or pensions changes.

BlancmanegeBunny · 14/04/2022 11:39

I do my elderly in-laws shopping online at Morrisons. A few months ago a 4-pint carton of milk was £1.15, then it went up to £1.25 and this week it went up again to £1.29.

thesnailandthewhale · 14/04/2022 11:50

Not price increase but a reduced offer - my phone is with Tesco mobile and I cash in my clubcard vouchers towards the bill - currently £1 of clubcard points = £2 off mobile bill, however from June they are reducing it so £1 of points = £1 off the bill. I've cashed in all of them and added it as credit to my account.

Zilla1 · 14/04/2022 11:53

FWIW, I'd expect food prices to spike as the contribution Ukraine made to food production filters through and the results of fertiliser pricing and availability leads to price rises when farm stocks of fertiliser are used and reductions in domestic production when less fertilised is applied.

junglejane66 · 14/04/2022 11:53

@littlepeas

It is now just over £100 to fill up my car - was £60ish when we got it. Perfectly ordinary family car, not a 4x4 or anything.
The rising petrol costs doesn't really affect me as I only ever put in £20
Leftbutcameback · 14/04/2022 12:01

Our bus tickets have gone up from £2 to £2.20 for a single (albeit there is a way to save money if you buy 10 in advance - but some won’t be able to afford that)

Leftbutcameback · 14/04/2022 12:02

It’s interesting when you hear inflation is at 7% but most of the examples posted here are well above that, as it petrol and heating / energy costs.

Mamamia7962 · 14/04/2022 12:05

junglejane66

Of course it affects you, as you get less petrol for your money, so will be filling up more often!

Ha ha.

countdowntonap · 14/04/2022 12:13

Gym membership has gone up by 35%!

Triffid1 · 14/04/2022 12:22

EVERYTHING has gone up, or there are fewer deals, or the sizes have shrunk. I sometimes get the Waitrose 3 for £10 deals. The steaks on that deal have shrunk from 200g each to 150g each. Many items that used to be included in that deal no longer are. We're not struggling because we've been lucky enough to see an increase in earnings over the last year but I'm constantly surprised at how seldom I am buying food on deals now. Basics AND luxuries (I notice it with wine - a few wines i liked I never bought full price but would buy on a discount. Now they're hardly ever on discount or if they are, it's a smaller reduction).

Kona84 · 14/04/2022 12:22

Local one stop used to have 2 cans of pop for £1. Now it’s 2 for £1.20
Aldi used to do a 24pack of loo roll for £5.99 now it’s £6.99
4 pack of home brand beans used to be £1 at the most now £1.20
They don’t seem big increases in isolation but when added together you are looking at maybe £5- £10 increase on a basic shop.

Dancer47 · 14/04/2022 12:34

Dolmio past bake 2nd April 99p.
Now £1.99

Store own brand Mayonnaise 2nd April 79p
Now £1.65

Vegan burgers 2nd April £1.00
Now £2.25

I am not going to say which store because they are really doing their best for poorer people.

Mosaic123 · 14/04/2022 13:14

I was a child in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

This all feels nostalgic to me (not in a good way).

My Mum used to (over) stock up on lots of food such as rice, tins or sardines and cleaning materials as they were "only going to go up".

I would love to know which store as I'm a poorer person and it would help to know where the cheapest items are to be found.

Contrary to what you'd expect, I've actually become much stronger as I've grown older. When I was 18, I struggled to carry a bag of £20 worth of shopping; but now more than, 25 years on, it hardly feels like any weight at all to me Grin

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 14/04/2022 13:57

Is it a Tory council that made that decision - to ensure that only the poorer people suffer, whilst protecting the wealthier people from the impact?

Sirzy · 14/04/2022 13:57

I have just put in a Tesco order and lost count of the amount of times I said “how much!?” While doing it.

A few items today I have changed over from my normal to the Tesco own or club card offer instead. I can’t do that with DS foods but I can with mine thankfully. I was going to put some cakes in for me but saw the price and left them!

tomatorich112 · 14/04/2022 14:31

ALDI had sunflower oil today! I bulk purchased crisps as I love crisps. They didn't have any 20p cauliflower sadly but I did get the potatoes and carrots. Wonky peppers are still a really good price.

I did notice unsalted hard butter has increased to 1.75 when salted is 1.55.

Crazy times.
