Inspired by another thread but mainly by my own experiences today.
In February it was 20p to use the public loos at our favourite seaside town. Today it has doubled to 40p! There are now contactless points incase you don't have any cash. 40p to pee!
Mr Kipling cherry Bakewells have jumped to £1.90 in Asda and I'm sure they used to be £1.40 or sometimes even £1 and that was only a few weeks back. Cake isn't essential I know, but peeing is. Things have gone up generally but the odd pence here and there isn't always noticed but these are huge jumps.

Just booked a haircut for my child, used to be £10 now £12. For a dry cut!

Proudboomer · 14/04/2022 10:23

Loo roll. At the start of the first lockdown I bought a 32 pack of wilkos own loo roll for £6. It is now £7 and rarely in stock. The 18 pack is now £4.50 when it used to be under £3 and the 4 pack is £1.70 when it was £1. It isn’t the greatest quality either but when Andrex is now £10 for a 16 pack you have to cut costs somehow.

Otherpeoplesteens · 14/04/2022 10:25

Lidl Bellarom Italian or French blend ground coffee - £1.09 for 227g in November... now £1.45. That's up a third in five months.

Lidl Argus Brasserie lager - £2.99 for 10x250ml in November 2020, now £3.59 - twenty per cent in less than a year and a half.

Lidl Primadonna Extra Virgin olive oil - £1.89 for 750ml in December, now £2.18. Same with Aldi Solesta EV olive oil. Almost reasonable at 15% in four months.

Lidl and Aldi semi-skimmed fresh milk - £1.09 for four pints at Christmas, now £1.25. I read last week it's likely to go up to £1.80 this year.

Loose whole celeriac in Lidl. Went on sale in March for 99p per kilo, went up to £1.19 per kilo three weeks later. Twenty per cent increase three weeks after they started selling it.

Yes toilet roll! We only buy eco versions and we normally get ocado at 9 rolls for £4 but it's often on 2 packs for £6 so 18 for £6 and I stock up. Hasn't been on offer for months and has jumped up to £4.40 for 9 this past few weeks.
Tillsforthrills · 14/04/2022 10:28

My favourite Chinese take away have added £3 to each dish. They were expensive to begin with as they’re high quality.

Tillsforthrills · 14/04/2022 10:30

Weekly shop has gone up by about £20-£30

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll

There's a issue about eggs and potentially shortages. Saw it on the news but can't remember the reason.

Isn't it salmonella or something? Technically, at the moment, you can't buy free range eggs (except possibly ones from very small-scale local places) - eggs labelled as free range are currently allowed to actually be barn eggs, to protect the hens and avoid the risk of the infected ones spreading it.

At least they're still given a reasonable amount of freedom, albeit indoors only, unlike battery hens: I believe that anybody who thinks keeping hens in battery conditions is acceptable should be forced to spend a month in the same conditions themselves, before deciding if they might just have changed their mind at the end of it....

It's not salmonella. All poultry are under lockdown because of the risk of avian flu which is a risk that comes in during the winter with migratory birds. This has happened the last three years, and previously by now the restriction had been lifted. I think it's a 12 week grace period for eggs to be labelled free range - but we are still under restrictions and so now they have to be labelled 'barn eggs'. Us poultry owners are all waiting to be allowed to let our hens out.

I only have a few in my garden, but the increased cost in bedding materials (because they are enclosed I am having to change this more often) and in providing feed (because they can't forage) means my backyard eggs aren't really 'cheap' at the moment.
My local feed supplier has had to increase prices on the food I buy by £1.60 a bag. If you have enough hens to need three or four bags a week then that's a big hit.

The hens don't lay as well when they are stressed and also rely on exposure to daylight to give good yield, so there are a combination of factors at play in the price increase and possible reduced availability of eggs.

Otherpeoplesteens · 14/04/2022 10:30

The most insidious thing with bog roll is that the cheaper brands are almost always sold out in my local shops.

It's not really something you can do without now that we've stopped buying newspapers, so if you want a clean arse you're stuck with much, much higher prices that don't actually show up in the inflation figures at all.

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/04/2022 10:35

Ditto diesel. Was £60 to fill my Peugeot when first got it 5yrs ago now over £100. I stopped it there as couldn’t afford to do more and wasn’t full tho almost but hadn’t got to the clicking to say almost full

As others said it’s food, apples were 99p fir 6 now £1.20

Loo roll was around £2.40 for sop own brand but luxury. Now £2.90

Meats 3 for £10. Now £12

Tomatoes and peppers more

I buy bulk wipes. 18 packets and was £12 now £16

Fwiw Aldi /own supermarket baby formula powder is the same ingredients are cow and gate and sma and aptimil(not the posh one) they have to be legally

It’s the packaging that adds the cost

Gas and electricity was £260 now £275 a month

Water up

Bb up by think £1.50 a month so £18a year

Had takeaway last eeek and was about £5 more then usual so assuming dishes gone up 50/75p each

Otherpeoplesteens · 14/04/2022 10:40

Dried broad beans.

In October 2014 was £36 for 25kg delivered from Hodmedod's. Now £59.70 last time I checked - 64% in seven years.

The 6 larger rolls that Aldi sell for £1.98 are like hens teeth to find. I think a lot of us are looking where we can to cut costs and buying cheaper loo roll is a easy place to save so where previously a lot people would have turned their noses up at it now they are buying it too. It is the same for the cheaper kitchen rolls. The big rolls for 90p but are now £1 are almost always gone. I have started going to Aldi in the morning as you get a better chance of grabbing some than if you go later in the day.
Pyewhacket · 14/04/2022 10:44

Parking where I live used to be 20p for under 30 mins. Now it’s £2. 😳

starfishmummy · 14/04/2022 10:48

Milkman has just notified us of a rise of 5p a pint (bottle) 7p on a plastic litre ans 14p on a 2 litre. There have already been two increases in the last 12 months.

pradavilla · 14/04/2022 10:49

Council tax up £9 per month
Gas and electric from £100 to £195 (came off fixed rate in credit so continued to pay £100 when really it was more)
Nursery gone up £4 per day per child.
Lots of food items gone from say 60p to £1 or £1 to £1.25 or £1.50. Mince I used to buy at £3 is now £4.59!
Obvs petrol it was only about 119p not so long ago now about 160p
Car insurance was £40 more than last year
Home insurance was about £37 more than last year. Used comparison sites so it was the cheapest.
Delivery from Chinese used to be £3 last time they charged me £5 😮 thought prices had gone up but checked menu n they were same. It's less than 3miles.

I'm just waiting on swimming lessons, dancing etc all going up too. It's like every week something has got more expensive. Just a matter of time.

Oh and I've not had a pay rise in forever 🙄 think last one was 1.5% it usually 0.5% or 1% the joys of working for government.

TrillianMurphy · 14/04/2022 10:50

Toilet roll in farmfoods has gone from 4 packs for £10 to 4 packs for £15.

frugalkitty · 14/04/2022 10:51

Our cat food went from £1.65 to £1.95 overnight, that's a big jump! Also, Tesco own version of fairy liquid has gone from 33p to 41p just like that.

Oddbutnotodd · 14/04/2022 10:51

All offers that used to be £1 down from £2 or so £1.50 in Sainsburys. No crisp offers either. Another healthy product I buy is up from 4.79 to 5.40. Fruit and veg definitely up . No cheap tomatoes available In Sainsburys. Lamb is really expensive. If you’re on an average income food inflation is way above 10% already.
Fuel bills - my gas cost has trebled since September and electricity not far behind. Petrol is more but I’m driving fewer miles.

AdoraBell · 14/04/2022 10:53

Petrol
Dog food
Coffee- my life line
Meat
Diary
Loo roll
Oats
Bread
Cooking oil
Just about everything - not sure about bus fairs as we moved recently and I’ve only used the bus twice. £7.80 return for a 25 min journey. No idea how much it was previously though.

Fizbosshoes · 14/04/2022 10:54

@Pyewhacket

Wow I can't remember the last time I paid 20p to park anywhere....but that's an insane increase!

Agree with PP that I can't understand for what reason parking has increased massively especially when lots of places are pay by card or app only so don't even need to empty the machine. (Although I guess someone still needs to check that people have paid the correct fair)

Nellie2022 · 14/04/2022 10:55

Everything in home bargains has gone up by at least 20p

Bigboysmademedoit · 14/04/2022 10:56

Local butcher - small single pie (only DH eats pie) £1.80 - noticed on my bill yesterday it’s now £2.50! I’m assuming other items have risen at a similar level. It all adds up

Jaxhog · 14/04/2022 10:57

@littlepeas

It is now just over £100 to fill up my car - was £60ish when we got it. Perfectly ordinary family car, not a 4x4 or anything.
Us too. Prices in the SE are just crazy.

Our weekly food bill is up at least 10% since this time last year.

Jaxhog · 14/04/2022 10:59

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/04/2022 10:59

Oh yes parking. One hour was 1.70 yesterday. Used to be £1

AdoraBell · 14/04/2022 11:00

Forgot about electric bill 🤦‍♀️ That’s doubled.
