Inspired by another thread but mainly by my own experiences today.
In February it was 20p to use the public loos at our favourite seaside town. Today it has doubled to 40p! There are now contactless points incase you don't have any cash. 40p to pee!
Mr Kipling cherry Bakewells have jumped to £1.90 in Asda and I'm sure they used to be £1.40 or sometimes even £1 and that was only a few weeks back. Cake isn't essential I know, but peeing is. Things have gone up generally but the odd pence here and there isn't always noticed but these are huge jumps.

I've taken to making butter from reduced double cream. It's the best butter I've tasted, it's cheap and it's a good workout. Grin

Robinson double strength orange squash from Sainsburys - was £2.50 last year now £3.75.
OMG YES! In Tesco, it was £2, then crept up to £3. Then £3.50 (but you can currently get it on offer for £2 with a clubcard- offer ends end of the week I think)

Also, for the longest time, we could not find our preferred Orange and Pineapple one.

Pasithea · 14/04/2022 09:33

The egg crisis is due to bird flu. All chickens have had to be kept indoors Since nov. There are now no free range eggs in GB.

Tlollj · 14/04/2022 09:37

Isn’t the double strength squash now quadruple strength or something though? Still expensive mind.

c3pu · 14/04/2022 09:38

Asda hot cross buns used to come in a pack of 6, now they are in a pack of 4.

Yes I don't tend to buy Lurpak as it's normally more expensive but just noticed the price jump when I was in the shop last week Smile
Fanacapan · 14/04/2022 09:40

In our local weekly country market the eggs have shot up from £1 per half dozen last year to £1.40. Still bought them though!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 14/04/2022 09:43

activia yogurts are smaller, they are labelled gut health

EmeraldShamrock1 · 14/04/2022 09:46

Aldi's pringles aren't bad, they don't have as much flavour, definitely a passable substitute.

SantaMonicaPier · 14/04/2022 09:49

Our local Chinese has displayed a sign stating they will be adding Spam to certain meat dishes. Not even joking.

Sswhinesthebest · 14/04/2022 09:51

Lint chocolate was £2 now it’s £2.15.

7 1/2% inflation!

SushiShopSearch · 14/04/2022 09:57

Smol dishwashing tablets have gone up 20%.

These companies think that we don't notice low priced items increasing in cost. We do. We see you.

Zilla1 · 14/04/2022 09:59

Don't worry. The Chancellor is so concerned that they will be an income tax cut sometime, possibly just before the next scheduled General Election? Apparently it's easier to predict the future then rather than now because the next six months are likely to be so turbulent. Perhaps it seems everyone has a personal worth of £300m? and a family wealth of billions so will be able to draw on savings until the GE.

Farm eggs near me went from 70p to 80pfor 6 in October last year but they hadn't gone up for over 5 years.

We're taking DC to the Natural History Museum tomorrow. Obviously museums were always free but DH paid £5 for both of us. I don't mind this at all, as obviously they need to recoup some costs and their donations have probably significantly reduced. However, it might mean that a family can no longer afford to go on what was once a free (and brilliant) day out.

Alexandra2001 · 14/04/2022 10:04

Given what we all see in real life, how does the govt get inflation at 7%?

What has fallen in price so much/remained at the same price?

Surely this is fraudulent.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 14/04/2022 10:05

i never fill my car with petrol, i put between £20 and £25 per time
however this no longer lasts me 7 days

It’s still free - you can click on ‘without donation’ if you’re booking online. Obviously great to donate if you can, but no obligation.
Haveyoubrushedyourteeth · 14/04/2022 10:10

@polexiaaphrodesia if you've got Prime then Amazon is the cheapest by far for squash. I have 3 varieties of Robinsons on my subscribe and save and only pay £1.80 a bottle, without S&S its £2 so still significantly cheaper.

@kukdoos I completely agree regarding the pets. Our animals are family, not luxury items, and I'd give up everything I had to keep them.

Threeboysandadog · 14/04/2022 10:10

Clover spread 500g - it was always available somewhere for £1 now it’s up to £2 and £1.50 was the cheapest I could find it anywhere this week.

We are a low income family of 5 and I always do a couple of cheap evening meals midweek, jacket potato & beans, beans/egg on toast. I normally use Tesco Stockwell beans 22p a tin. I haven’t been able to get them locally for weeks, No Tesco beans either. The cheapest I could get was a Heinz 4 pack @ 75p a tin.

Things that used to be 2 for £1 are now 2 for £1.50.

Lipsandlashes · 14/04/2022 10:12

Thanks @piglet81 DH booked it so I've no idea what he clicked on. We are very happy to donate and don't begrudge a tenner at all. Very pleased to hear it is still free though.

BoodleBug51 · 14/04/2022 10:14

When we bought our rural house 23 years ago, we were a little concerned at going onto bulk LPG. It was 17p a litre at the time.

It's now 77p. And we're screwed with the tank (Calor) as it's "illegally" sited due to a wall around it, and another company would insist on a new tank elsewhere in the garden so we'd spend thousands to save pennies.

Our monthly DD has gone from around £40 a month when we bought the house to now over £250 a month and we're around £500 in deficit according to the statement that came last week. Add in the electricity at the same cost of £250 a month, and our utilities now match what our mortgage used to be. We live in a very bog standard 80s build 4 bed detached, not a rambling mansion. It's insane.

FeltCarrot · 14/04/2022 10:15

@Dasher789

Pringles at £3 a tube - I might never have a Pringles again Sad
Aldi do knock off pringles for about 80p a tube. The sour cream and onion and much better (imho) than Pringles.

@LeavesOnTrees

Print cartridges that I need for work. At the end of last year they were £135 they're now £165. I 'm thinking of stocking up before they rise even more but it's a large outlay.
Have you visited considered refillable cartridges? Much cheaper and better for the environment. I can buy a set of ink for £20 and can refill the cartridges many times.
ZeppelinTits · 14/04/2022 10:16

Co Op own brand baked beans 400g tin jumped from 32p to 44p. I know it's not a lot of money but as a percentage of the original item it's a lot! I won't buy them now. I can get them in other places cheaper. But that means a long walk to the nearest tesco or aldi (I don't have a car).
