To feel disappointed we paid so much for this accommodation

We booked a month in advance and paid 220 euros a night. Photos and reviews were good; but we got a studio with 2 beds in the living room, one enclosed in a box/partition; street view and construction side next door. Not breakfast, not additional facilities, one bathroom. We are 4 people

You can clearly see the sliding partition doors in some of the images - you got what you chose. It’s an expensive mistake which will have to be clocked down to experience, op. Not sure what led you to believe there was a pool?

GrimDamnFanjo · 13/04/2022 12:46

This is the danger when you book one from a number available. The layout can never be explicit to what you may end up with.
I am always suspicious when there's a lot of decor shots.

HappyMe123456 · 13/04/2022 12:47

Sorry for the typos, I meant upgrade for a fee. Silly that we can't edit on mumsnet.

Do they know there are four of you in an apartment meant for two?

To be fair to the OP, I have just scrolled through the booking options and the apartments for 4 people all appear to be advertised as one bedroom with sea views. They all list en suite facilities too which generally means a bathroom of the bedroom further reinforcing the idea that there was actually a separate bedroom.

From the information I can see I do think you have been mislead.

Chewbecca · 13/04/2022 12:52

I don't think the description is as clear as it could be.
I would expect a one bed apt with ocean view. The bed could be behind a sliding door like the pics.

Tynesider007 · 13/04/2022 12:53

This thread reminds me of the Faulty Towers episode where the lady complains about her view of Torquay.

" What did you expect, herds of wildebeests sweeping majestically across the plain".

Adelais · 13/04/2022 12:54

Did you book one with sea views? I’m not sure if you can class the bed behind the sliding doors as a bedroom though so you may have grounds to complain.

SheWoreYellow · 13/04/2022 12:54

So what does your booking say?

1 bed or studio
Sea view or city view?

Check it and then tell the place.

GrumpyTerrier · 13/04/2022 12:56

I've also come across this misleading vagueness on booking.com recently. Pics were of a few different apartment options. I booked a suite and part of the listing said 'Kitchen' and listed the kitchen as having a fridge. But when I got there, there was ONLY a fridge! They'd locked the kitchen and tried to say I hadn't booked one. We argued it was misleading so eventually they opened the kitchen. Very tricksy.

ApertureGLaDOS · 13/04/2022 12:58

Are posters actually reading the booking.com page properly? All the listings say 1 bed apartment with sea view so if I clicked that, it’s what I’d expect. Not a studio with 2 beds in the living space.

I can’t even see how you’d tell the difference anyway other than the number of people it suggests to accommodate for. The total area space remains the same regardless of how many people it’s supposed to accommodate.

I would challenge it. It’s not what you booked.

2Hot2Handle · 13/04/2022 12:59

From your description of what you’ve got, the photos are very misleading. It looks like a separate bedroom and then a bed in the living room, to me. Also mentions sea views on the link.

tintodeverano2 · 13/04/2022 12:59

I think they are counting the bed in the box as a bedroom...

MichelleScarn · 13/04/2022 13:01

It would be helpful to other travellers if you leave honest feedback.

But yeah, I can only see 2 guests mentioned on the listing.

TeaKlaxon · 13/04/2022 13:03

YANBU.

When I go to the link, the only option to book for four people (which does cost £220 a night, so assume is what you booked) is a a "One-Bedroom Apartment with Sea View".

You have not got a one bedroom apartment. You have got a studio apartment. That is misleading. Accommodation providers shouldn't expect you to have to guess based on photos that they have lied about what they are providing - that's on them.

Also, you have not got a sea view apartment. Putting in the text that some have city views and some have sea views is not enough if the main headline description is "One-Bedroom Apartment with Sea View". If some apartments don't have a sea view, that title listing is a lie.

As you said, the issue with breakfast is pretty clear - you had the option to book with or without breakfast, and at £220 a night, you booked without breakfast and that is pretty clear. So I wouldn't mention the lack of breakfast in any complaint.

SwedishEdith · 13/04/2022 13:03

I think it's quite misleading if you book quickly without asking more questions. The different furniture and shots of the staircase show there are a few apartments but you can see from some that there's a bed in the main room. Looks like a nice apartment though.

WonderfulYou · 13/04/2022 13:03

Do people think 220 euros per night is cheap?

No I think it’s ridiculously expensive and I expect the only reason you paid that was because it says a sea view.

It also says it’s a one bedroom apartment so I would expect a separate bedroom to the living area although you can see it is all very compact.

MarriedThreeChildren · 13/04/2022 13:04

I think the photos are for two or 3 different flats. You can see it when you look at the picture of the double bed (separated from the living area).

That I think is misleading.
Otherwise, there is a lot of very cleverly made photos that make the space look much bigger than it actually is. That's something to be careful about. I got caught once but not twice Grin

TeaKlaxon · 13/04/2022 13:05

@BobLemon

But yeah, I can only see 2 guests mentioned on the listing.

When you try to book there are multiple options to book for two people, three people or four people - and to book with breakfast or without breakfast.

Booking for four people without breakfast is £220 a night, so I assume that is what OP booked.

If booking what is described as a "One-Bedroom Apartment with Sea View" then someone has every right to expect (a) a one bedroom apartment, not a studio; and (b) a sea view.

MarriedThreeChildren · 13/04/2022 13:06

btw 220euros per night ins't cheap.
but not extravagant if you stay in a big ish/touristic town in an aparthotel. I found those always much more expensice (and compact!) than what you have with let's say AirB&B

FairyCakeWings · 13/04/2022 13:06

You can see from the photos that it’s tiny, and I wouldn’t have assumed that just because they plonked some sea photos in with the apartment photos that you had a sea view, just that the sea was easily accessible.

You win some you lose some, try and make the best of it and enjoy yourselves anyway.

Bootothegoose · 13/04/2022 13:07

Is it as advertised?

Does the booking explicitly state there are bedrooms and seafront views? Does it state it is a studio or a one bedroom?

Look back through your literature and list exactly what is different. Complain from there if necessary. Either way, make sure to leave feedback that the information needs to be clearer and review that it is a studio. There is no need for a studio apartment to have almost 50 pictures all appearing to be different properties.

Bootothegoose · 13/04/2022 13:07

@MichelleScarn

Clearly not the same apartment!
This.

Those images don't even look real - they look computer generated.
