To hope this very sad case stops them giving out abortion medication without scanning

Extremely sad for mother and baby, mother is likely completely traumatised by this.

This isn't an anti abortion thread. Whilst never desirable, abortion needs to remain a safe, legal, NHS funded option so women aren't forced into buying illeagal/ dangerous pills online or having dangerous/ unsanitary abortions from backsttreet "doctors."

But I have been really, really concerned how at the start of covid, any safeguarding/ care in abortion went out the window. Pills posted out with no safeguarding concerns, and no scans to confirm pregnancy is within the legal limit.

Am I right in saying tragic, traumatic cases like this happen when you don't scan to check the gestation of pregnancy before handing out this medication ?

I think it’s fine to be ‘pro life’ - just as it is to be pro capital, punishment. Neither is my position. However, just own that ‘pro life’ / anti abortion is your position instead of wrapping it up in faux concern afoul DV victims or telemedicine

Very much this. But it's a tactic - posit the false statement that abortion regret is rife and so abortion needs to be made harder. posit the false statement that telemedicine leads to dangerous situations for women and so it needs to be rolled back. Outright saying you are anti abortion doesn't cut it and won't get people following you, so you go with the subtle approach instead. It really is despicable.

This is just an attempt to shut down discussion and it’s wrong to say anyone with concerns is just anti abortion.

I’m pro choice but I do have reservations about things like no scan to date a pregnancy to see which abortion method is suitable / identify molar or ectopic pregnancy

It’s not an attempt to hide being pro life at all and i think it’s pretty low to resort to such a tactic labelling anyone who dares to raise a concern as pro life

Very similar actually to how people get ‘anti vaxxer’ thrown at them so easily if they express even a tiny bit if hesitation over vaccination. Often all that’s needed there is discussion/ reassurance/ etc but people jump in to shut the conversation down with cries of ‘anti vaxxer’ when actually an open discussion and education is what’s needed

Same is happening here. Shutting down a discussion saying anyone with a concern is fake .

Women deserve better. I would want access to a scan first but there could be women who don’t realise the importance and could then suffer it’s not good enough to say ‘oh it’s rare ‘ because ‘rare’ is fine till it’s you or your daughter or sister or friend …..

1000% agree.

Not once have I, ( or the majority of any other posters in this thread), said anything to suggest we want abortion in the U.K banned or restricted. I actually said within my posts that I think protestors

It seems a minority of poster's want to shut down people who are concerned for women's health, safety and emotional wellbeing - by saying anyone raising concerns about telemedicine/ termination without scanning "hates women and wants to destroy their rights." Despite the fact that the case studies above show that although rare, the current system can have devastating effects for women.

It is the same "shut down " argument used to say someone saying, "I think transgender people deserve respect but I worry about male prisoners being able to self ID as women and enter women's prison," = " I hate transgender people and think they should be discriminated against in all area's of life."

It is perfectly possible to have concerns about telemedicine / lack of scans without wanting to "ban abortion."

And yes, I imagine complications are rare. But if it is your sister/ niece/ cousin/ aunt / daughter who ended up having a 28 week stillbirth in her bathroom because no one had scanned her to safely check the gestation of the pregnancy, or it was you daughter who was forced, coerced or spiked with this medication; I'm sure you'd be calling for greater safeguards.

No, I’m not trying to shut down debate. Reading @Greenmascara ’s posts, it just came across as disingenuous faux naive ‘pro choice’ text garbed as concern for women. Now I realise that it perhaps was just poorly argued - ie picking on telemedicine for a case that was not about telemedicine etc 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
