My washing line annoying neighbour

Afrodizzyak · 12/04/2022 16:21

We have a new neighbour who has complained to me about my laundry hanging on the line ruining her view. It's just run of the mill laundry, no crutchless knickers or bondage gear, so not offensive. At first I ignored her, but she later told me she had photographed it and would complain to council.
I'm not the only neighbour she has complained to, another about his whistling, which is piercing her ears, having sensitive hearing and she asked another neighbour to keep his windows and doors closed whilst cooking as it made her nauseous.
It's not just humans she intolerant of, if a bird is singing, she will start growling to scare it away.
Before she moved here, we all just dodged along fine.
Is there any law against hanging washing? I'm not tumble drying our family's wash when not necessary.

Wow.

She lives on her own? Anyone in the household you could speak to?

Is she elderly? Early signs of dementia can often be mean spirited behaviour and oversensitivity to stimulus such as sound and smell

Or could just be a CF narc

custardbear · 12/04/2022 16:43

Goodness she sounds like fun! Ignore it, what would the council say after they've finished laughing!

maddiemookins16mum · 12/04/2022 16:43

I’d be straight on Anne Summers for some new undies and I’d leave them out permanently.

Leftbutcameback · 12/04/2022 16:44

@bloodywhitecat that is genius!

VerifiedBot2351 · 12/04/2022 16:44

Just ignore her.

Oh! Is that true? That explains a lot! Off to do a Google.

I think you need to suggest she moves here - it is probably remote and quiet enough for her!

Goldbar · 12/04/2022 16:45

Tell her you're going to be reporting her to the council for breaching your privacy by looking into your garden.

RightOnTheEdge · 12/04/2022 16:45

Just ignore her OP and carry on hanging your washing.
What a shame for you though to have to live next door to such a misery guts.

chipsandpeas · 12/04/2022 16:46

id put out a washing every day even if its clean stuff to piss her off

raspberrymuffin · 12/04/2022 16:46

I think you should buy alphabet pants (they must exist) and do what YouHaveYourFathersBreasts says.

CurbsideProphet · 12/04/2022 16:46

She sounds like a toned down version of my relative's neighbour - loud aggressive comments about random things, complaints about very odd non-issues, outbursts over nothing. All very stressful.

Could you put a higher fence on that side / plant something quick growing so she can't see into your garden? My relative has done this as it means they can use their garden without being watched and commented on.

bjrce · 12/04/2022 16:46

Sorry OP. When I read the first line - I roared laughing!

Have to say - I would definitely be hanging out racy underwear for the laugh!

Some people are on another planet!

Tasteslikeregret · 12/04/2022 16:47

@Afrodizzyak

We all own our properties, so no restrictions. Even heard her on the phone talking in a loud voice "more bloody washing flapping in my face". (30 feet away)
What sort of age is she? Just curious.

How did you resist a loud conversation about ‘that batshit neighbour policing our laundry’ ?

Thestagshead · 12/04/2022 16:47

She’s clearly got issues

Ps, on a petty note, a crutch is a mobility device you use if you break your leg or something. Your crotch is your nether regions. So I think you mean crotchless knickers. Crutchless would be a given 😆

Sapphirejane · 12/04/2022 16:47

Bet her old neighbours threw a party when she moved out!

megletthesecond · 12/04/2022 16:49

Yanbu. Some people are proper nuts. Ignore her.

outdooryone · 12/04/2022 16:51

I have had 'that neighbour' before. It is a fine line to not antagonise but also stand by your rights and refuse the nuttiness...

As others have said, council will ignore.

Some people just seem to need a crisis / complaining in their life. I do actually feel sorry for them.

MarriedThreeChildren · 12/04/2022 16:51

It must be miserable being her :(:(

Barkingmadhouse · 12/04/2022 16:51

I would be surprised if you are not allowed to hang out your washing but I would check your deeds - I have a (very expensive) estate near me that does ban washing lines. It also has restrictions on the length of you garden grass and other madness

Twolostsoulsswimminginafishbow · 12/04/2022 16:53

I would spell offensive words out. These are too good for her…

Aye, that is a two-peg* place for washing.

"I'm sorry you feel that way. If you believe I've done something wrong then please do report me to whichever authority you see fit and I will happily abide by their ruling."

A useful stock response for busybodies.
