Teachers /Nurses partying in staff room

Michael Fabricant has just said on BBC that teachers and nurses were drinking and partying after their stressful shifts during lockdown.
This was in defence of Johnson, Sunak etc.
I know he is a clown but this is so insulting.

Hospital staff did seem to do a lot of TikTok dances in the early days of the pandemic so I can’t entirely get behind some of the posts on here…

I can’t imagine they were neglecting their duties caring for seriously ill patients to make tik tok videos , do you think perhaps they were doing it to try & keep their morale up when dealing with an unknown deadly virus ?

jgw1 · 12/04/2022 21:12

The thing is and all that really matters is that Boris knows what a woman is, having shafted so many in his time.

DoubleYouOhEmAyEn · 12/04/2022 21:15

We haven't got the luxury of a staff room, and I'd be sacked for drinking on the premises. Never mind the fact that when youve finished a shift you're dead on your feet. And completely aware of how contagious covid is, what with working in a hospital and not wanting to take it home to your family.
What an insulting comment.
Thick as mince.

RagzRebooted · 12/04/2022 21:16

I'm a nurse, we did have Dominoes pizza and snacks in the back office for our little Christmas celebration, so kind of a party but no booze. Definitely against the guidelines, but we weren't the people making the guidelines so not the same as the government doing it - and we were having to work throughout while many people we knew enjoyed their furlough. Also, no one in my team got covid until the last 6 months, so clearly we're all pretty careful.

caringcarer · 12/04/2022 21:16

Rediculous statement to make. Most nurses working very long hours then straight home, food and bed and up early for next shift. I think this is insulting.

Kite22 · 12/04/2022 21:16

I can't understand how 10% of people who have voted on this thread think the OP IBU. None of the posts reflect that.

Can anyone explain how, in anyway this is unreasonable ? Confused
Or have people got mixed up with the vote question ? (do you know you can correct it if you had a nervous twitch and clicked the wrong one)

cocktailclub · 12/04/2022 21:22

I would feel slightly better to think teachers and nurses HAD been able to party. It might have made their genuinely frightening and awful experiences during lockdown maybe slightly bearable.
Our government...not so much

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 12/04/2022 21:22

@dinozzo I am so sorry for your loss and grateful for your service.

KeyWorker · 12/04/2022 21:22

All but two chairs were removed from our staff room and we had to organise a rota each day for lunch breaks. We were also not allowed to have drinks at the nurses station due to mask wearing, so in short no we weren’t partying or having cake for colleagues birthdays ect.

42isthemeaning · 12/04/2022 21:26

@dinozzo
I'm so sorry Thanks

EllaB22 · 12/04/2022 21:27

Honestly so so insulting!

Our staff room was locked - no kettle / microwave.

Staff were also in subject bubbles and encouraged to take lunch alone and had to stay in certain areas of the school / use certain doors.

I ate lunch alone in my car as did several colleagues. More fool us.

Femalewoman · 12/04/2022 21:27

It's wrong to say that and an attempt to divert from their wrong doing.

To be fair though most of my child's school was home and only the TA's with a headteacher supervising actually worked through the first lockdown. Most were home doing the gardens/homes and would admit that. The provision was woefully inadequate for home schooling - an email with some suggestions BBC bitesize etc so no way the teachers were working at the school. Appreciate that some/many? schools were working harder but I can only comment on my local one.

Iggly · 12/04/2022 21:44

I don’t think we can compare Boris Johnson, who presided over a culture of excessive alcohol use and partying with medical professionals working their arses off during a pandemic.

I don’t think doctors were wheeling suitcases in to their offices.

And this was more than that - Carrie actively organised a fucking birthday party.

BitterTits · 12/04/2022 21:44

We don't get a cup of fucking coffee at work. I'd love to know who paid for all that cheese and wine.

Yes, but one can't expect Boris to do some work if there is no prospect of a bit of knees up part way through the day. After all he had to go through the rigmarole of visiting a school earlier that day, so really it is the teachers fault.
Meg237 · 12/04/2022 21:59

Yep midwife here. Can absolutely confirm there were no parties. Zero craic

JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil · 12/04/2022 22:11

And yet his majority increased at the last election and many on this very thread complaining today will line up to vote for the likes of him come the general election.

Is isn’t about what the online teaching provision was like, it’s about whether the teachers were physically together on the school premises “partying” together and drinking alcohol. And your helpful comment proves that the teachers were following the rules (unlike BJ and co) and staying at home, so thanks for that.
TheLoupGarou · 12/04/2022 22:15

Nurse here - our staff room was limited to 3 people at a time. In all my years in the NHS I have never had or witnessed alcohol being consumed by staff on hospital premises. We did get food donated to ED but it was eaten on designated breaks, no parties I'm afraid. The last thing I'd want to do after a 13 hour shift us stay in work for longer.

Lisad1231981 · 12/04/2022 22:16

What an insult. We cancelled everything, staff room had limited numbers, we didn't even do end of year BBQ and drinks to say goodbye to staff who were leaving.
Prom and Christmas party for the students was also cancelled even though it was allowed.
Surprise surprise we thought it best to set the best example for our students by sticking to the rules and show caution!

I work in education. We’ve only just had our staff room reopened and we still have to bring in our own milk!

No parties here.

PonyPatter44 · 12/04/2022 22:24

@Jaxhog

You don't think running the country during a pandemic is a bit stressful??
The Queen sat alone at her husbands funeral, the day after that utter shower of lying traitorous morons had been on the piss all evening. She stuck to the rules. Why couldn't they?
jgw1 · 12/04/2022 22:28

I really do not understand why everyone is missing the point so much.
The rules never said that parties were not allowed if they were necessary for work. If like Boris it is necessary for you to have booze and be half cut at work, then you should have carried on partying.

sirensscreech · 12/04/2022 22:36

NHS worker here.

Never had alcohol at work.
Actually, we don't even get tea, coffee or milk without paying for it!

We've had colleagues leave, retire, marry and die since Feb 2020 and haven't had any work parties.

Politician's behaviour makes my blood boil I am so furious with them.
