Teachers /Nurses partying in staff room

Michael Fabricant has just said on BBC that teachers and nurses were drinking and partying after their stressful shifts during lockdown.
This was in defence of Johnson, Sunak etc.
I know he is a clown but this is so insulting.

Our staff room was out of bounds , including use of the fridge and kettle . We were in bubbles with the 4 other form tutors in our year group and not allowed to mix . All breaks were supervising pupils to keep them in their bubbles . A party ! - we couldn’t even have a solitary cup of hot tea !

CraftyGin · 12/04/2022 16:18

We didn't party in the staff room, but we did have a Christmas end-of-term gathering in the school hall - glass of wine and some Pringles.

We even wore Christmas jumpers. Shock

What weird school locks their staffroom? Where did you get your mail?

Daffodilsdance · 12/04/2022 16:20

@CraftyGin reception would email us to pick it up .

LoopyGremlin · 12/04/2022 16:21

I’m a teacher. Our staff room has only opened in a very limited way in the last month!

macaronipenguinn · 12/04/2022 16:22

I feel so sad for my son's amazing teachers and TAs that MF would be as disrespectful as this.

VerifiedBot2351 · 12/04/2022 16:22

In my school, we weren’t allowed to even use the kettle, let alone gather in the staff room!

CraftyGin · 12/04/2022 16:23

What absolute madness. Too much power to the school business manager/bursar.

How come people with that level of power have no idea how to do a risk assessment?

Hankunamatata · 12/04/2022 16:25

Partying lol. Staff room had all chairs removed except 3 chairs socially distanced with strict timetable of room use

QuebecBagnet · 12/04/2022 16:25

We were only allowed two people in the staff room on our ward at a time, unless it was for handover snd then 4 were allowed. Which meant handover took longer as had to be repeated. Masks to be worn at all times.

Obviously no alcohol and we still had to pay for tea and coffee contribution. No tax payer funded wine for us!

Allthebubbles · 12/04/2022 16:27

I remember having a five minute chat with staff from other bubbles one day after school and feeling really guilty. Hardcore.

IDontHaveAnOutingHobby · 12/04/2022 16:27

Staff rooms were closed- he is a dick
No-one was partying anywhere else in schools
Schools have a no alcohol rule

QuebecBagnet · 12/04/2022 16:27

And on Xmas day we weren’t allowed to bring “nibbly bits” of food. Just your own sandwiches, nothing which might encourage mixing.

SoftwareDev · 12/04/2022 16:28

WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?

#1 How can that idiot claim to know what is going on beyond the realm of his ridiculous wig?

#2 We were not allowed to congregate in ANY room let alone the staff room. There was strict 2m social distancing in place.

#3 Alcohol is not allowed on the premises - never mind to be consumed!

#4 We are not even allowed to have Christmas Parties OUTSIDE of the premises. The last staff night out we had was Christmas 2019.

Spidey66 · 12/04/2022 16:30

I’m a nurse. The only times I partied in lockdown was in the living room or back yard in nice weather with a bottle of corner shop wine, some popcorn and my husband and the dog. I’ve been rumbled, clearly.

justfiveminutes · 12/04/2022 16:31

We weren't allowed in the staffroom if anyone else was in there. Our bubble were given a ten minute window at lunchtime to heat food or make a drink.

We have had one social event over the past two years, at the end of a term, when it was allowed again. We did it after school, outside on the sports pitch.

MonkeyPuddle · 12/04/2022 16:34

They took both the chairs out of our staff room. More room for dancing that way.

Lady0racle · 12/04/2022 16:36

What a load of balls. I certainly was not partying in the staffroom - it was for tea/coffee making only and there were only 2 of us allowed in it at any one time. We had to get our drinks and then wipe down the kettle. No lingering allowed - not least because SLT removed the chairs! We’re still encouraged to eat our lunch in our classrooms. Plus, we were required to stay 2 meters away from anyone not in our bubble.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 12/04/2022 16:36

Which teachers? Which nurses? Was he there? Did he see it? What proof does he have that this ever happened?

Without any of the above I don't think anyone is likely to believe him. Surely?

SoftwareDev · 12/04/2022 16:38

@SliceOfCakeCupOfTea I hope you are right however teachers are vilified by the great British media and I think the public like to see us as work shy.

Shinyandnew1 · 12/04/2022 16:39

We were only allowed 3 in our school staff room at a time and that was to get our things and leave-the chairs were piled up in the hall.

Typical government deflection of blame.

flumposie · 12/04/2022 16:40

Disgraceful claim. Most of the chairs and tables were taken out of the staff room. It's never been the same since. Last July I threw a ' garden party' for 3 members of staff leaving since even then we weren't allowed to congregate still at the end of the year. Utter shite.

WonderfulYou · 12/04/2022 16:44

Ahhh yes the good old staff room parties celebrated at the end of every day where we all got pissed, hooked up with staff from other departments, vomited over the students books and drove home drunk as skunks.

Or more realistically - barely saw or spoke to any other members of staff as the communal areas like the staff rooms were out of bounds or had strict rules in place.
Even if there wasn’t we were too busy doing 3 x the work and so didn’t have any spare time to do this.
And there was a new virus doing the rounds so most of us didn’t want to catch it or spread it so wouldn’t have joined in even if this was the case.

They’re just just to cover their own backs for acting like such massive dicks doing whatever they wanted during lockdown and now they’re trying to say teachers and nurses didn’t follow the rules either.

Iom92 · 12/04/2022 16:45

Our staffroom was removed during the first lockdown. Was then repurposed as a staff work room with socially distanced (taped out to measure) desks so that everyone had a work space that was fully distanced as not everyone had their own classroom.

No tea or coffee facilities, let alone alcohol. I mean, the idea is absolutely laughable and beyond insulting.

They have no idea what the real world is like.

Ruskinlark · 12/04/2022 16:46

No access to the shared offices to make hot drinks let alone party at our school (we haven’t had a staff room for years). I was in every day during the lockdowns but sadly not a warm glass of wine to be had. Like many, I carried a flask around to have a drink and ate sandwiches on my own in whatever classroom was free. We got stern reminders at our online briefings not even to chat during duties or in corridors to avoid the risk of infecting colleagues. It was utterly miserable and lonely for months.

Sleepyblueocean · 12/04/2022 16:46

My sister is a nurse. She came home after night shift then looked after/ taught her kids whilst her partner went out to work.
