Rishi Sunak’s wife is NOT elected OR in a public role but she is a woman

Have you noticed that Zac Goldsmith (elected), Mark Carney (role of significance to all of us as Govenor of the Bank of England), 4th Viscount Rothmere (controlling shareholder and Chair of the Daily Mail) all have non Dom status but no mention is really made. However, a woman, who has no public role, has never said anything public, is being criticised for her non Dom status?

And yes she’s getting massive dividends but I imagine as it’s family money there is a massive pre-nup in place so it’s not like Rishi will be able to run off with it!

'while you are hear, would it be acceptable to you for the Chancellor to spend a fortune on a birthday party while denying children the opportunity to have a party at all?'

While I'm hear? I'm struggling to see the connection tbh, there hasn't been any mention of the Chancellor spending a fortune on birthday parties while denying dc the opportunity to have a party at all.

It's been in the news quite a bit today, it's about his wife paying tax in India on her income in India.

This is the trouble with trying to defend the tories: they u-turn on everything and make you look like a fool.

GrinGrinGrin

True though

Silverclocks · 08/04/2022 19:53

They still haven't said exactly where she's been paying her "International taxes" Grin

tiktokontheclock · 08/04/2022 19:53

@JaniieJones

I'm not sure what folk are so riled about. She pays tax in this country on her uk income, she pays tax in India on her income there.

The fact they are rich is irrelevant, I can understand people are jealous but it all reeks of racism and misogyny and the fact is it's all legal.

Sunak has had to make tough financial decisions because we've just paid lots of people's wages in furlough for 2yrs. It's got to be repaid somehow. Do we think Mrs Sunak is responsible for the costs of the pandemic?

Oh please. I'm Indian, and it's not racism. It's a case of us vs them, and in this instance they just think they're above the rules they create for others.

That's only too true.

But if Johnsons a non starter and now "Dishy Rishi" has had his run blown out of the water, does this mean The Goviot is back in the running?

I cannot describe the emotional damage that thought has wreaked upon me!

tiktokontheclock · 08/04/2022 19:55

@Sirzy

She is now going to start paying. I doubt it will be backdated though!

As I am sure you are aware I was talking hypothetically. Of course no self respecting Chancellor would have expensive parties whilst ensuring many families are choosing between basic food and heating. Certainly not this Chancellor as he is so in touch with the people of this country, many of whom work in his 12 homes and baking his many breads.

Sorry I had missed the news about India, I suppose much like Boris missed the news that he had been to illegal parties, its terrible when no one tells you what is going on.

Yes, but why would we expect anything else. His boss didn't think the laws that he had imposed on the country during a time of national crisis applied to him and his home, so why should the Chancellor think that he and his wife should pay tax.
They are after all that rich because they are so much better than us, and we should doff our caps to them as a mark of respect.

It is racism, what the 'left' are actually trying to dogwhistle is that the Sunaks are not really british, or that he should have control over her income.

Besides that, it's a mute point now as she has gone above the rules and decided to pay:

Expect a lot on the opposition bench to now be scrutinised and a lot of people pretending it hasn't happened, much like all the calls of corrupution and nepotism rightly pointed at the cons but ignored when it comes to one of the biggest unions in the country...

Do you think the Chancellor and his wife should pay the same proportion of their income in taxes as I and my partner do?
StormzyinaTCup · 08/04/2022 20:15

I'm really not getting the outrage here.

Two years ago when Rishi Sunak was giving money out to pay peoples wages, making grants available for businesses, reducing VAT, deferring VAT payments etc etc, he was being lauded and talked of as prime minister material. Now we all have to start paying this back through our taxes he is a complete arse and his wife is on the tax take!

For people who think Rishi has too much wealth therefore shouldn't be doing the job of Chancellor, I would imagine a key requisite for the job is to be experienced in business and finance and this pays big bucks. If you want John the plumber from down the road at No.6 to step up and run the country's economy because he knows about life on a meagre wage then good luck with that.

She is going to now pay UK tax so all good, I'm sure we won't see anything of it and our taxes will still go up.

Some people are very wealthy, that's life.

That might well be what the "dogwhistle" is for, but it's not the left perpetuating it. Sunak was getting far too popular for comfort in some circles and they know where their votes lie.

Because apparently if you have access to millions of £££ that makes you so very special that you couldn't possibly lose large chunks of it to tax.

No matter how legal it is or how you dress it up it's rich people ensuring they and their acquaintances hold on to their millions which many have gained from family so haven't even had to work for it.

It's called entitlement

Blossom you are free to criticise and debate, I've got a thick skin. I like hearing different views and persuading people that I'm right Grin. Just nicer to behave like intelligent adults instead of barking insults imo.

Would you agree that it is also best not to correct other posters spelling and grammar? You know in the interests of being nice and behaving like an intelligent adult?
