Ads making mumsnet almost unusable?

Now there is a giant ad on mobile view covering the top half of the page!
One was for animal rights in Australia, the others seem to be Ross from friends with a variety of different women. You can't even click them off.
Incredibly annoying. Do MN not worry it'll stop people using the site?

I agree. I have the pig. Cute but very annoying. What the heck is it advertising anyway? And since I can't see what I'm typing, this post may be gibberish.

ExplodingElephants · 08/04/2022 07:42

OMG, does the type of animal mean MN thinks things about you! I mean, I’ve put on a bit of Christmas weight 😂 but to put a pig on my screen is a bit mean 🐷

TruffleShuffles · 08/04/2022 07:43

I’ve got this too and also the same as a few others who are having the page reload randomly. I’m also finding the page is occasionally taking forever to load so I’ll get half when down and then there’s nothing below and then I can’t for back up either. This is only happening with mumsnet, nowhere else.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 08/04/2022 07:43

Well, it is annoying but I suppose the only way to have MN for free is to put up with ads.

Having said that, I cannot for the life of me work out what some of those ads are for.

MyCommentWasDeleted · 08/04/2022 07:46

Use an ad blocker. No ads here whatsoever!

Ginajo · 08/04/2022 07:46

I use the app and the ads aren't a problem at all. I don't really even notice them.

Whinge · 08/04/2022 07:46

I understand the point you're trying to make. But there's a huge difference between putting up with ads, and being unable to use the site because the ads make it impossible.
Poppins2016 · 08/04/2022 07:46

Yep. I can't actually see the box that I'm currently typing this response in, due to the position of the advertisement and needing to use the keyboard on my phone. I abandoned posting on something else earlier due to this. Screenshot attached.

With the overlay and and the and in the middle of the threads, at some points its just a bloody page of ads!

FlipFlops4Me · 08/04/2022 07:52

I think I'll uninstall the app until it's all sorted out. No point in having it given its not possible to use it.... I'll stick to the laptop and just visit now and then

Boomerwang · 08/04/2022 07:54

use an ad blocker. I don't think I've seen any ads on phone or pc.

Ostryga · 08/04/2022 07:55

I just use an adblocker. No issues at all.

MedusasBadHairDay · 08/04/2022 07:57

I can barely see my typing.

SherbetDips · 08/04/2022 08:00

I wasn’t a registered user and they were so prominent I signed up. Thinking they would go away and they are still there even more annoying.

knittingaddict · 08/04/2022 08:11

I have half of my page filled with Gwyneth Paltrow at the moment. I can't see what I'm typing because she fills up one half and my keyboard (on phone) fills up the rest. It's so annoying. Usability on mn is always about ads, so I guess we know what the sites priorities are.

knittingaddict · 08/04/2022 08:12

@MedusasBadHairDay

I can barely see my typing.
Yes! Just like that.
knittingaddict · 08/04/2022 08:15

Also I can't stand Gwyneth Paltrow, so I'm even more put out.

EmeraldShamrock1 · 08/04/2022 08:15

Yanbu.
It's ridiculous hard to reply with a advert covering half of my mobile screen.

FatherDickByrne · 08/04/2022 08:16

Yup, I have the woman in the red cap. Was just about to see if I could write to Mumsnet about it when I saw this thread. It’s not sustainable for users and will make me think twice about coming to the site, which is sad as I love it!

Krustykrabpizza · 08/04/2022 08:18

I have this 😂 what is it even advertising?

Darbs76 · 08/04/2022 08:20

Yep, I won’t be using it if they continue as it’s really annoying on a phone

Parky04 · 08/04/2022 08:20

This thread is dominated by a Vinted ad on my phone. However, it's not too overbearing.

Thestoppedfan · 08/04/2022 08:21

Yeah it’s getting ridiculous now I understand that mumsnet have to get money from somewhere but as I’ve scrolled through this thread I’ve counted 9 different adverts. The one blocking half the screen is the worst though. I’ve got 2 cows not a clue what it’s advertising it just wants me to accidentally click on it.

FilthyforFirth · 08/04/2022 08:24

I literally cannot see anything, so bloody annoying. How do I get an ad blocker?

PrivateHall · 08/04/2022 08:26

I don't use it on my phone because there's constant stupid videos playing which are bound to eat up my data (some woman mashing salmon??). So I only use MN when I have time to use it on my laptop, its much easier to navigate and no worries about data. I would definitely use it far more if they didn't have those stupid videos.
